I always heard from friends that 32 was a good size... I just started to get curious so i was wondering what you all thought..

32 i thought 8 front for 4 ranks... use with giantrat and nightrunners i think they could not be lead around the board... and have a decent punch... but with mutator's comments im wondering

what size and why? and what you normaly give them... always a plaguepriest, censer bearers, banner of this or banner of that...?

Mine are usually 20 set up either 4X5 or 5X4 depending on who i'm fighting. They always have the PCB around them as well as the Priest and a Burning Banner.

I always reckon keep PM units small - they dont panic until you lose combat, so you dont need the buffer of ranks to maintain leadership, and people often dont shoot at them because they dont panic (and T4 helps influence this decision), thus allowing you to maintain what little rank bonus you do possess until you reach combat. So keep them down at 20-24. If you want more then buy another unit.

Remember that, where the rank bonus is the same at the start of combat, 100, 50, 32 or 20-strong plague monk units still all break from combat just as easy - which of those units would you rather lose?

The usual combo is 20 monks with the PCBs and priest and a screen unit.

I find that any more and they get too expensive, and the extra ranks don't help. They also tend to get useless quick once they lose combat, it's better than to split a large unit than field one huge one. Isn't 8" front a tad bit unmanouverable?

6 wide 4 deep is the best in my opinion.
A fully equipped unit will have 19(!) attacks, with the banner of burning hatred, you can re-roll your to hits. And they still maintain their 3+rankbonus and outnumbering. Because they are a bit stronger then clanrats doesn't mean they don't need ranks or outnumbering.

My friend just smacked me around he said 24 was his choose not 32... 6 wide 4 ranks... (no my friend isnt ~vicious~)

which makes me wonder what to do... ... i think ill just get another plaguemonk box and maybe go for two units to get into the field of things... that and i can take two units of censers for my rare :D

I personally use 25 plague monks to make 5 ranks of 5 wide. Even though the plague monks are good they still have trouble with other armies heavy hitters so I find they still need to outnumber and have full rank bonus.

But most importantly my monks go nowhere without a priest and some PCB's nearby!! :censor: :censor:

I used to be schizophrenic, BUT WE'RE OKAY NOW!

Usually it's either 20 PM by themselves as a heavy supporting unit...

Or...

A 6 x 4 PM unit with plague priest & banner of burning hatred (or the umbranner against shooty army), with a PCB unit close by, screened by night runner...

The only thing I hate with this setup, my PCB don't get a Ward save against catapult & the like, and with their cost, they often are the target of my opponents warmachines... And if it scather, they still get good chances with the monks...
Even a horde gets tough times...

Does a unit of 25 plague monks really a priest/magic banner/PCBs to be effective? I would think they'd do fine on their own. I was thinking about taking a unit of 30 at 6x5 and letting them handle themselves.

what im thinking of is a unit of 28 monks with nurglitch in the front rank, so its 8*4 (bearing in mind nurglitch takes up 4 spaces)

Normally i use PM in units 5 wide and 4 back, ideally i would have them 24 as 6 wide 4 back but cant get round to buying my second regiment, just yet.

Do PM really work though in units 4 wide? will they get enough attacks is all im thinking......

I always use 25 with extra hand weapons and a plague priest with as many PCBs as I can, they scare the hell out of my ususal opponents and almost always earn more than their points back.
