it depends what your painting, like Skaven, Humans, Dwarves, or whatever. I tend to use diffent methods for the different races. I could be more specific if I knew what you were playing |

I think he said eshin rats. Most people go for dwarf flesh or elf flesh, though I prefer to dull the color with a mix. My clanrats are done with elf flesh mixed codex grey, working up with decreasing amounts of grey till pure elf flesh highlightz. It's as close as i could get to mouse skin (pale, greyish with strong pink highlights. I tend to mix paints for the others, elf flesh with a hint of bestial and sometimes codex, highlight with elfflesh. |

Yup, sorry, Im very busy and don't get to sleep much these days. Its all a blur. At any rate. I start with Terracotta as a base over black undercoat. Then I start mixing in Tanned flesh and do successive highlights till Im at pure TF after which I start mixing in Dwarf Flesh. Pure Dwarf Flesh is used as the final highlight Of course, this is only for my Brown furred Clanrats and Slaves. For Stormvermin, or any other model with non brown fur I use different colours. Mutate:I suggest you mix out some colours on palletes to see how they're gonna turn out and what you like (I use old lids from Yogurt containers). It also lets you have a reference to help keep the mixed colours as uniform as possible. |

I go all out, and spend way too much time so don't mind the uber amounts of steps I'm about to write just on painting skin. *Grins* 1st-Chaos Blackundercoat 2nd-Vermin Brown 3rd-Elf Flesh 4th-Chestnut Ink Wash 5th-Elf Flesh[I know you may think the second elf flesh doens't really make a difference, but it does, as I go really heavy with my ink washes] |

I usually paint my skin, though if I aim right I could get some on the model too. One tip with skin painting as the above posts suggest is use a brown or black base, with a darker skintone in successive layers highlighted with a lighter skintone. Which browns and skintones is really up to you. Do what Ratter suggested to match colours, the idea is to stick the paint on a transparent plastic and hold it over the semi-painted model to see if it matches. |

When I bother painting rats to a decent standard, I paint the feet bronzed flesh, flesh wash, elf flesh in raised areas and then paint the toenails. |

Well i guess i am just odd...lol. My rats skin color is: Basecoat: Shadowgrey First layer: Shadowgrey-elf flesh(i guess a 1:1 ratio) Second Layer: Same colors but a 1:2 ratio Third and final layer/highlight, same 2 colors but now a 1:3 ratio My ratio's are aproximates as i just mix till i get the color and paint each one individually, thank goodness the flesh is just the hands, feet, tails, ears, and face on the majority of the rats, otherwise it would take me forever. My idea is to have a more sickly looking skin tone on my rats. |
