Actually, this thread is not off-topic. Should be in the warlord clan or general warhammer forum. Perhaps a mod will move it for you. Anyway, most Skaven armies do not consist of any one clan. We mostly play generic warlord clans, who hire mercenaries from the Great Clans to support us in battle. Anyway, as clans go, Eshin provides a very different kind of playing style, all skirmishers and assassins. They have their own list in the Storm of Chaos book. I don't play them much, but doubt they'd be good versus beasts. Skryre is powerful, and many Skaven armies have a lot of troops from this clan. Unfortunately, it's also boring and not many players like to play against Skryre armies. A non-cheesy one can be made, but it's hard and you may suffer from prejudices anyway. Moulder armies are rare, but potentially good. They favour the horde approach, lots of giant rats, clanrats and slaves backed up by ratogre units. Not bad if you're a good general, but it'd be better with a few Eshin and Skryre allies, which brings us back to the generic warlord clan. Finally, you can play pestilens, but in that case I'd wait until the lustria army book comes out next month, which has a new pestilens list and will see lots of new plastic models as well. I suspect the list will be stronger in close combat than the normal Skaven one, but much harder to control due to frenzy. I still recommend playing a normal Skaven army with some troops from one or more of the other clans. It's easier and in my mind more fun, unless you want a strongly themed force. |

"I have a post-Armageddon vision. We and all other large animals are gone. Rodents emerge as the ultimate post-human scavengers. They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?" Richard Dawkins, The Ancestor's Tale

i would recommend a warlord clan with more rat than 'specialist troops' although this kind army is a total bugger to paint, it's my kind of army, where you loose a whole regiment and shrug indifferently (to your opponent's horror) otherwise, the new moulder/pestilens plastics coming out soon will result in a boom in armies of those clans, even im intending to add a battery of ogres to my warlord clan for larger battles..... |

Like most people have said you should choose a warlord clan so you can have a balanced army.

Yes. Just take lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of rats... that will also minimize magic's effects.
