Well, as I like to think of myself as a Boedhist, I'll give you my point of view:

I believe in reďncarnation. I believe in Purpose, and I believe in an higher force, that I like to call God. He created us, and everything. The Lord created us with a purpose man cannot even dream of. I try to end the neverending struggle for life by reaching Nirwana(I never even got close!). If I make it, I'll finnaly go to "heaven." But before that, there shall be a long road, many, many more lifes with me in it(hopefully one as a rat) shall be gone before I reach True Enlightement. As for our creation: I believe that this is not the first time a race called "human" formed civilaztions on different planets they always call "Earth".
And I don't believe that where different people, I believe I was there, in another form. As a person who's life plays more in his head than anywhere else, I cannot accept the fact that "this" will end in an endless void. And what do people mean with "living life to the fullest?" In my experience, they mean drinking, partying, using drugs, having sex with anything that moves, and most of all: living for yourself. But that's not what I think is "living", I'd rather call it "raping yourself".
If I'm talking about living, I think of talking to my wife in an quit evening, with a glass of wine and a burning fireplace. I think of the childeren I teach, and in howfar I will inspire and influence them. I think of my unborn child, and how my wife and I will raise him/her. I think of collecting money for the Salvation Army. I think of mowing my lawn, doing stuff with my friends, vissitng my relatives, watching a great movie, reading a great book, running trough the country side during a hot summer.and I think of praying to God, or Jesus. And yes, when I finnished a Skaven model, and it looks great, I feel like I am alive.

Thank you for your time, wanting more info about enlightement and personal happieness, please contact me ;)

firstly, i consider myself a practising Christian; I bleieve in God, as the bible describes, and i accept that others need not share my views, as this is their descision, not mine, or as it has been put by an uncountable number of theologians from Bible times onwards

"we were created in the image of God, He had the freedom to create us, and by making us in His image gave us freedom of our own, it is using this freedom that we decide how to live our lives, and whether we choose to become as the likeness of God"

the God that i believe in, i know little about, whether as Mik said, he is something that exists inside of me, or something that is "out there watching over us all" the reason that i do not know this, is that to the true nature of God one would have to be God, which can only be obtained by one being, and that is God(in his 3 'states' of God the Pancreator, Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit/Ghost)

In all seriousness, if you think about it, there had to be a power that started this all. If you have read Angels and Demons, an AMAZING book (one of the not too many i actally enjoyed reading), you will know what i am talking about. How could miles of jellyfish pulse together in exact symerty, how can twins, separated at birth, have the exact same interests or events happen to them, etc. It talks about a theory that two opposite equally powerful forces were forced together and this started the big bang for anyone who demands a completely scienttific explanation. how else would an explosion that large and unfathomable come to be? There has to be a bigger power. Anyways, READ THIS BOOK. It keeps you ojn the edge of your seat and gives you a lot to think about. I dont like to read except certain books that really get me to think (like this one). It is by Dan Brown. Here in the US was a best seller. on the other hand, I, personally dont believe in anything the bible says. I believe there was a figure named Jesus who prophesized things and believed he was sent from god himself but I dont think that he really pulled all these miracals (sp) and came back to life. All i know is that he doesnt have any directly affect on me so i need not care all too much. But seriuosly, order it. Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. :ph43r:

I believe, worship and belong to Jehovah.
I have been ransomed with the blood of His son Jesus.
I am a sinner saved by His grace.
He did something for me that I didn't deserve to rescue me from something that I did deserve.

I guess I'm what people nowdays would call a "fundamentalist Christian." My personal belief revolves around the simple fact that I sinned, and that only Jesus' shed blood could redeem me. It's not about rules or restrictions... it's about worshipping the God who loved me enough to rescue me. I'm pretty happy about that.

Well, if there is a God, which I believe so, (being catholic and all), he must have always exsisted. I guess though there is the interesting question: when did time start or was it always there? My brain has trouble comprehending this; I can't think of what nothing is nor begin to think about infinite. The whole prospect of either baffles me  .

If time started somewhere there must have been nothing before. But what is nothing? At first I think of a infinite black void, (yes I know I said I couldn't imagine infinite before). But then I realize that that isn't really nothing, it couldn't be :o .

Then there is infinite. I can't even begin to imagine this; how could time stretch forever? It just doesn't seem to logically fit. ...?

I'm sure others have pondered this and reached there own conclusions but I have found my own satisfiable answer which is God, though I'm curious and would like to hear other opinions on this topic.

Oh yes and while on these crazy topics, I'd like to throw in one more ^_^ . What about the area that is the universe. Does it stretch forever too or does it have an end and what is it? Although there is always one of my theories, I call the pacman theory. Basically when you get to one end you return to the other, much like in a game of pacman where you exit on one side and return on the other, (I'm sure anyone who's played pacman understands).

I believe in what Motoko aramaki expresses alot in his work that there is a spirit in everything, each person has what he calls a ghost, its a mixture of who a person is.. but still in a sense our soul, this being is random and undivied until our birth and our raising. something that even twins coming from the same dna makeup can turn our simular and share bonds but in a sense still be two different people....

lets see how this relates to god is this, the spark... with deitys or spirts things such as the supernatural can be expained as more then just spooks... whitenoise is something that baffles many people as do "ghosts" the haunting that scare people, background of a past life. enegry... which is in a sense what our ghosts are. enegry something that the enlighten few use their enegry as possible as a collective to do great things. control over ones own self is another use of your ghost enegry... remember our brains are still un tapped for the most part of what we can do, so things can be still confusing even for myself expressing my thoughts into something what i can make sense of and still be my own thoughts but thats basicly my wellbeing of how i think...

(notices his message is probally hard to read but is too tired to edit it now)

hehe I find being a twin to be very erie. For example, I will be thinking about something at one time only to have my brother ask me about that exact same thing a moment later. We will say things at the same time, do things at the same time, and do share all of the same interests [though this probably comes more from a closer bond of being twins and spends much time together growing up].

I don't believe in any gods, but I find discussions about it to be very interesting. My views are very similar to Mik's. Humans created gods because some people need something to believe in, something to live and look towards. I believe that when you die, you are doen. Your mind does not continue, it ends with the death of your brain along with your thoughts.

One odd idea ,though, is that if so many people believe in different gods, will one entire following of people simply go to hell or the equivalent if they they chose 'wrong'? Or is supposed to be one god who acts as all of these gods?

The universe is also very interesting. It is the size and scale of it that is impossible for humans to grasp. I like the thought that our universe is mearly an atom of a greater universe, which in turn could be part of an even greater universe. We will never know. Anything is possible. Scientists can see light from distant galaxies in telescopes, but by the time it reaches our eyes we could be seeing what was there millions of years ago.

Anyways my heads hurts so I'm done.

As I prepare to go to church this morning (Catholic), I say yes there is a god, just as the Bible decscribes...but I also believe that the Bible was written by man based on its concept of god. For example I will except the fact that god could have made the earth in 7 days, yet I have a hard time accepting that man was put on earth on day seven. Therefore, since time only matters to man, creation was based on his interp. I also do not believe that the earth is only 10,000 to 40,000 years old, nor do I believe that Dinosaurs did not exist. Some religions adhere the the belief that fossils were put in to the earth to test our faith. I say hogwash! Dinosaurs existed before man, nuff' said.

Religion/God is a touchy subject, be careful were this goes.

Is writing Dragon Age fanfiction

I have to say that so far this site amazes me. A discussion like this between people with such different views and there has been no reason to close the thread yet.

Amazing.

But in that vein I'll keep my views out of it. I am about as diplomatic as a rabid weasel when it comes to these things *smiles*

I mean, hey, look at the quotes I usually use... that out to give you some clues...
I am currently writing an epic Dragon Age 2 adventure that can be found HERE!! or on my deviantart.

You know that you can say -anything- to us and that we will probably still love you for it! (even it it was 'die a miserabe death and go to whatever hell you wish!'..or something along that line)

@Vorg; if this 'freaks you out', don't read and don't respond. Simple as that.

@Rest of you; I like to read what you guys wrote so far. Looks like there's a decent amount of people among us who believe in God. I Don't know why, but -up front- I expected the percentage to be slightly less.

I believe:

Everything has a spirit, including the universe.

Everything is connected.

Not every spirit has been earthbound.

Gods are simply particularly influential spirits that exist in their multitudes, by dint of being believed in (possibly). They can be powerful allies if you choose them to be. But they aren't necessarily something to be worshipped just because they are there, or because other people do; I would distrust any god that says he is the one true god and you'll suffer if you don't believe in him. Entitlement complex much? Sorry to offend any Christians out there, it's not that I don't beleive in God, it's jsut the concept on One True God for Everyone seems wrong to me. Sorry...

Anyway, to me, a God or Goddess can also be a set of ideals to aspire to. For example, Bast is the Goddess I most identify with, but Sekhmet, the appropriate action and the warrioress spirit (also associated with healing and um... plagues, and has coorelations with Odin) is what I currently most aspire to, because they complement each other and I think balance is very important but I don't currently have it.

Sometimes I think that's what religion started out as (ideals) but became corrupted as it became basically an excuse for elitism and murder. Nothing justifies that whatever you believe in.

Also, Odin just plain rocks. Anyone who hangs about on Yggdrassil (sp?) and loses an eye to bring humans the runes (a connection to the universe to me) is somebody to look up to in my books! I recently found out Ormesby (my crappy little village) was originally a rich, prominent, Danish settlement, and "Ormr" is old Norse for dragon, so this has redeemed it a bit in my eyes since it means were practised right here where I live before they adapted to accomodate Old English and became the Younger Futhorc. Hurrah! And dragons are my favourite mythical creature.

Overall, I think being a good person is more important than going to church. They aren't necessarily the same thing. Someone once told me that I must immediately start worshipping their god because it's "not important to be good, it's important to be RIGHT!" And I have to say I disagree!

Hahaha, once again I've rambled on for ages and ages :P

Also, sorry if I've offended anyone as it wasn't my intention at all. I've been told I'm anti-Christian. I'm not against Christianity by any means unless it's directly affecting me in a negative way (like someone telling me I'm a Godless heathen and I'm definitely, DEFINITELY going to hell and need to convert RIGHT NOW... on our first date :( ), and I'm not really too fond of anything that's negatively affecting me at any given time! Like, I'm usually very fond of cats but not when it keeps running off with my sandwich. Well that the worst analogy ever.
