Well said Grimothy. Being a Geek is part of going to my school. Anyway, it seems to me that theses so called "cool" people believe that they difine the word cool. People make fun of me for playing warhammer but after a lengthy interogation, it is soon discovered that they have a small (un/badly painted of course) horde of space marines tucked away somewhere. Actually, Warhammer seems to be more of a geeks game than 40K. |

I like those responces, heres mine: I usually spend 1 hour a day on thew computor unless i have homework that needs the comp... but then i got world of warcraft, not im obsessed and play that 2 hours a day! I have a lot of friends, they say that is shouldnt play warhammer because its for nerds and call my 500 point (im pretty poor..yet only 14...) of Clan Vorgor Vorgin Shmorgins, but i found out that 2 how my friends played warhammer and quit it only 1 year ago... hmm, warhammers for nerds eh?! I play vidiogames (example world of warcraft) a lot untill i get board of them then i toss them into the "closet of 1000 games". I cant play warhammer much since my cousin and my brother are now yugioh freaks and quit warhammer, but the odd time my brother plays with me, so im pretty stuck now.... wow i replyed to my own post not knowing it was mine.... lol squeeks |

Well I don't actually have a phd, but being an aeronautic inspector sure seems to fit me in the category of the nerds if you follow that kind of logik... Well if playing warhammer makes me a geek, guess I'll just have to cope with this... Seriously, I don't know who is the neerdier of the two, the geek, locked inside his basement, playing computer game 12 hours a day, never truly realising that he just got 40, and that playing battlefield vietnam won't make him rewrite history, or this other geek, now 40, who didn't realize that Lizardmen never actually existed in our world? I've met people at large lan-party who couldn't write anything but l33t and who would tell you that the 400+ hours they took locked in their basement playing the last third perception shooter where well invested, and I've met powergamers who think that the 400+ hours they spend in their basement painting their tournament army where well invested, but couldn't write anything other than orkhish so... Seriously, there's nerd in both kind of game, computer and wargame, but not everyone is like that! I think the best is not to fall in either category; have a life outside warhammer or computer, take care of your friend, find a girlfriend (or boyfriend), drink some booze with your buddies, make some sports other than bloodbowl... Feel life to it's better and bitter taste... My philosophy is: Live life to his fullest, live it fast and enjoy every moment of it, and then, if you die young, you'll make a nice corpse. And yes playing warhammer is an enjoyable aspect of life, mind you...

I also liked computergames, but I never get realy far cause I scuk with them. Since some of you described geekieness(I don't know what it realy is) I looked at my own life: I play warhammer, I listen Heavy/death metal and all kinds of rock, I live with the love of my life, I started this year as a fresh teacher, I run every evening(at 8 o clock) 5 miles with my DOG, I keep rats and take them to tournaments to "enhance" my dice. Yes, we are geeky, and sowe are betther than cool people*grins* However, there is a line between geekieness and being a complete Nerd. Geek: laughs I take living rats with me to enhance my dice. Nerd: Gets upset because I cheat(this actually happened when I threw two irresistables, the nerds who organized the game disquallified me for cheating... I only brought two living rats with me!) Geek: plays computer games for fun Nerd: plays computergames because it is his life Geek: At least tries to impress girls, by setting things on fire, crush skulls, or runs around screaming. Nerd: Has no idea what women are. You now know what I mean, don't you? Since we are geeks, or so other people call us, we have the abbility to actually do something. Most cool people and nerds end up having nuthin'. By the way, I picture this magazine writer as a big, fat, bald, 40 year old guy, who lives in his mothers basement, writing how geeky we are. At least, when he is not doing a video game. I actually met people who think they are tougher than me because they always beat me in all games(exept shooter... reflexes of a rat), but are hardly able to lift their playstation. So, be happy, be noisy, and make lots of love and trash. Yours, Bassik. |

Ah, "geek" is a label that an be thrown around pretty easily and IMHO it is a pure example of an empty term. From where I'm sitting the "cool at all costs" type of people who like to stick the "geek" label to everyone who doesn't share their interests live a very miserable life and, to be honest, they are the ones to show compassion to, as they are usually the ones purely concentrated on one aspect of life (namely parties and clubs). Tried it, did not like it. I strictly prefer my own lifestyle where I meet my friends at pubs, parties or at WFB tournaments to have a beer or 10 with, keeping most time to my prettier half anyway and still having enough time to dwell into other activities that I find interesting (modern philosophy, rock and metal concerts, playing guitar, martial arts...) . So, if anyone calls you a GW geek, you might as well stick "coolness geek" label to them and forget about it all. Unless of course WFB is the only thing that interests you and it makes you sad not to be a part of whatever social group you'd like to join. Then it's not a matter of labels but a problem that you should try to solve by yourself. Cheers - Swingu |

i think youre confusing "geek" with "loser" or "freak (me ). lets go through the list:dork: actually means penis. seriously check the dictionary. nerd: smart, loner, usually into math, D&D, and computers geek: like a nerd, but they accumulate in groups and usually minus the "smart" and "math" loser: anyone who doesnt wear whatever brand name clothes, or prefers to/is made to sit alone at lunch etc. freak (my favourite): the weird one wiith the unnatural hair colour, weird habits, etc. usually combines all the above because they're IQ is at least 30 points higher than all the popular kids who make fun of them, accumulate in groups, and are otherwise nonconformist |
