Here.... I'm wondering if the chieftain is of any use. To me he appears pretty sweet, but i'm hesitating between 1 chieftain and a warlock engineer...

Well it all depends on your other character choices. If you have no magic at the moment then DEFINITELY a warlock. If you already have 1 mage type (under 2000pts) take a chieftain, if you only have 1 mage type (2000pts) take another mage type (warlock). For skaven I always find it best to have two mages, even three if you don't take a grey seer, at 2000pts, as their spells are so destructive. However I tend to use plague priests over chieftains, as i find them more destructive, but then again, chieftains can be a BSB.

I take 2 warlock engineers and a chieftan, with full ranks, units he influences will have Ld 9! Better even than elves! |

Only take him with the BsB in the back of a clanrt or storm vermin unit, or give him heavy armour and a great weapon to add more hitting power to a squad.(Although a plague Priest could do it better for a higher cost.)

for their cost, chieftans are good to let ld 9 be had, and for their fairly good fighting stats. A chieftan with GW, heavy armour and a warpstone amulet can do a surprising amount of damage.

Well that totally depends on the size of the battles and if you are fielding a warlord...I would say in 2000< games, a cheiftan is a must, boosting that ld up to a 9 with full rank bonus. Since skirmishers are definitely a weak point since they dont ahve any rank bonus (excluding weaponteams) a ld6 is certainly gonna help. If you equip him well, he can also boost the fighting power of a clanrat unit or whatever u want to field him in. If you already have an engineer, as the others said, i would take a cheiftan... suppose it would be helpful in what size of battle, and what heroies u have already... hope that helps

My character choices: Warlord 2× engineer and then it depends on my army and points I have left. Usualy I take a plaguepriest(I use the bellringer) but sometimes when the enemy has much-much h.armor guys, I tend to take a chieftan with the gouger or something... |

Grey seers are better! They can ride on bells as well! Warlords are sometimes good though if you need high Ld, but grey seers have the full arsenal of spells! skitterleap, plague, pestilent breath...you name it! I prefer them...

I agree, Grey Seers are better. Coz of magic. But make sure to always take a BSB to keep your army from fleeing...

Chieftain is a good low point hero choice, he can really beef up a clanrat unit, or positioned between 2 slave units he ups their leadership to keep them from running from a couple of arrows...

and yet, for the points lost on the Seer, you can get yourself an extra unit of clanrats. In my 3000 pts army I'm gonna include a seer. |

Just like bassik said, its like one entire clanrat unit there alone w/ magic items, plus the bell! now that's way too much for 2k... myself in 2k i still take a seer W/ out bell cause i just long for that entire skaven lore, i just love it. 3k is pretty easy, one of each... that's my 2 cents worth! |

im doing a 1000 point battle soon, do i take: chieftain-the general chieftain-BSB warlock-ugly magic-using git OR chieftain-general warlock-ugly magic using git warlock-another ugly magic using git OR Chieftain-BSB warlock-general, as well as being an ugly magic using git warlock-ugly magic using git im facing tomb kings, so im going to need high leadership to inspire my rats into charging the enemy, but the bsb rerolls will also be useful.... With a WE as general, most of my (fully ranked) units will get Ld 8, same as normal (for clanrats), if i have a chieftain i get Ld9, even on my slaves..... if i dont take both WE's apparently i wont be able to stop the TK spells of mega-death, definitely a bad thing. But if i take 2 chieftains i get Ld9 with rerolls, so my rats wont (read as 'shouldn't') run away even if they take lots of casualties..... any suggestions? |

You must chek my topic about "no skryre" in the warroom. There's a army list without any skryre at all. I won from high elves(two mages) and vampire counts(Lahmia) with it. Still can't beat my girlfriend... But it made me laugh seeing her realising that her dispellscrolls where wasted!!! |
