A good friend of mine plays the dark elves. and.. ive never beaten him! he generally takes lots of small units of spear elves (numbering 12 elves each..) a big unit of coldones (lead by malus), a hydra, 2 bolt throwers, a unit of crossbow elves.. and some shades.. and cant forget the sorcereress! ( A memorable game involves her casting black horror.. miscasting.. rolling double sixes.. casting it with irresistable force.. wipes out 24 clanrats.. they panick.. army panics.. haha at least i got a plague off and did some hefty damage before end game) Anyways.. does anyone know a good army list that could defeat this monster? I was thinkin.. since his units are so small.. just make them flee.. but.. his coldones are a beast .. and his bolthrowers are too.. thanks in advance |

You definitely need at least 2 warpannons, 2 attached ratling teams, 2-6 man units of jezzails (goodbye cold one riders). Rat ogres (at least 3 per unit) are also good against calvary (I've beaten khorne chosen knights!!!). 2 units of slaves (deter bolt throwers). Grey seer mounted on a bell, Warlock (w/ at least the Storm Demon), 2 Chieftains (one w/ desolate blade/ other w/ sword of might). Clanrats (of course). At least 4 rat swarms (tie up anything). Then fill out the rest of your army (points). Oh yeah, need those nite runners. |

Try some Tunnel teams to take out the bolt throwers, or attack the crossbowmen from behind. You can also use them to take out lone wizards. |

I personally would bring not tunnelers, but normal scout gutter runners w/ poisoned hw's, and if you have the points throwing stars... Since in my experience, my tunnelers tend to show up during turn 4, leafing most of my units in combat, or the battle mostly done. A bit too late in my experience. Since yo want to eliminate those bolt throwers fast, bringing them would be a risk since he seems to ahve quite some fire power. But it would be a good mage hunter 2. Rattling guns are definitely worth it one this one, WFT tend to work betterif they have lower ld, but i love both so, either one. jezzails and maybe a pack of globadiers will eliminate heavily armoured units... The globadiers are great, since they are skirmishers, they can either hide behind your lines or skormish around the enemy just lobbing numerous globes. Night runners are very good against his flexible/manouvrable units such as shades/dark riders, maybe 2, one with slings and one with add hw...since shades don't stand a chance in cc against additional hw, and some light shooting easily destroys a small unit of fast cavalry. those are just some pointers...(oh yah, love rat swarms, poison could beuseful).... good luck! |
If Warpstones so great, how come I can't get any of Ebay?! And yes...I did get that awesome avatar from S'nKeep! | |

Scouts might not get close enough. Depends on terrain. Also if he has Shades they'll take a hiding spot too. Gutter Runners are good though. -1 hit for skirmishing helps a little. If you're lucky ,he'll only get one chance to shoot you before combat. |

Massive amounts of slave screens. if you have the models, two units of 40, ranked 20x2 if terrain permits, is a wonderful screen for 80 points each. plus they have to kill 10(i think, might be 13-14) models for a panic test |

Thanks a lot for the advice I like the slave screen idea... but im limited on models lol. I like gutter runners a lot.. scouts would prolly be better if i was all about winning.. but tunneling just seems so skavenish

If you want to avoid those Shades, simply field your Clanrats on the edges of your battleline and their weapon teams on their outside flank. Tey're skirmishers, have a 360. line of sight so no scouts for him. An intresting tactic I've used, though suicidal, is to get two Ratlings in front of your units, shoot at the heavy cav. once (as usual) and wait for him to charge you, simply stand and shoot with both of them. If they don't missfire, then no cav. for him either. |

He means the Shades won't be able to scout to close, because they need to be out of LOS. Ratling guns have 360 LOS. Just to let you know the scouting ability has been clarified in WD & Chronicles. Scouts are not allowed LOS to anything either. This prevents them from being set up behind enemy lines just because his units are facing front. |

do you know which one to be exact? it would really be appreciated...Also, isn't there a rule of where the scouts can be w/ in 10" of an enemy unit? (since that wouyld really make a skaven day with all those 360 degree dudes, plus the massive amount of units covering probably the majority of the width of the table (?worder wierdly?) |

WD #253 I dont know which Chronicles, but all that stuff is repeated. SCOUTS At least 10 inches away. No LOS to enemy (and vice versa). This prevents first turn march blocking and charges. |

Losing from elf-things? Pwfa! never did that before.. But than again, your oponent seems a smart one! Just keep in mind that Skaven can't be beaten: If you win, you win If you die, there's plenty of more warriors to come back, so it doesn't count as losing. If you flee, you can always come back for revenge! (this is, as you might have guessed, the Orkish point of view) |
