Skaven do have disadvantages!!!!

I played a Siege multiplayer battle the other day and I found that WE SUCK!!!
We don't have War Engines, no Flyers and our troops are mostly average fighters(cannot win combat on the walls). We cannot relly on tunellers to do the job.
Something must be done. I saw Chaos taking over the towers with Dragons and furies as the Hellcannon destroied the gate for the Chaos Giant to come in and my rats desperatly trying to reach the walls and then try to win a fight!

ouch, what went wrong.....?

our main (and only in a seige) advantage is numbers, use huge blocks of slaves to protect your better fighters until they reach the walls, use even more slaves to hide nightrunners with grappling hooks, and clanrat em to death (but only go on one side! if you attack from evey side you get fired at from every wall receiving [from a square fort] 4 times the casualties, attack one wall with everything, and then overwhelm those inside the rest of the fort......

if you tried all this, i have no idea what else to do.....

skaven exel in open battle or fighting in long, thin tunnels (warplightning cannon + long line of enemies moving along in a line = massacre), as that's what we as a race do. in tunnels not much can fly = we don't have fliers, in tunnels you cannot maneuvre = no cavalry, as for good fighters, plague monks + PP is good (apparently), and skaven only ever assault a fortress if they must, generally thay assassinate, poison or bribe the opposition (try bribing one of your opponents before the next battle....)

we do suck, to an extent, (a decent monster/mount would be nice), but we only suck at attacking forts as our wonderous weapons dont work. In exchange for this for this we get so many special rules, our own magc, foot troops with a move of 5" and possibly the best war machines in warhammer, one for almost every occasion (WFT for low Ld, rattling for undead/high Ld/armourless hordes, globes for armoured, and WLC for characters, chariots and cav). we aslo get one of the better swarms in the world (and they're the cutest)
AND OUR FLUFF KICKS THE OTHER RACE'S >especially orcs.... *grumble*< FLUFF INTO THE GROUND!

Next siege, just grab two WLC and some gutter runners.
Poisition both WLC infront of the enemy gate. Show them what happens when twin bolts of lighting fly. You'll also hit whichever unit is inside the castle waiting for you.
Rattlings can shoot troops on castle walls.
Warp Fire throwers can shoot over castle walls.
Just place a Warlord with some nice weapons in your ladder, give him nice armor, you should be able to kill atleast one guy and win combat. (Causing them to flee, or for you huge mass of troops to overwhelm and destory them.

You could also try taking a brass orb in a seige as it rolls a heap load of dice for the damage on the walls

i thought WLC had no effect whatsoever on walls, but i suppose the gate is different......

fine we have ***t loads of advantages in sieges!

neither did i.... :blink:

i got the impression that a bolt of lightning had no effect on stone walls, therefore, WLC does no damage to them....... but i am probably wrong about that......

I was under the same impresion.

Hmmm, I read before that warp-lightning is able to shatter mountains, so I guess it would be able to blown down a wall? <_< :wacko:

And I don't think that they can shoot through castle gates, either. The codex says "Only hills, high stone walls, such as castle walls, and rock formations can stop it". I'd assume castle gates would be included as well.

I have to agree, Skaven aren't good at sieges. Either as a defender or attacker.
Alot of other races are much better.But,really how often do you fight a siege game?
I have to disagree Quickpaw.
Storm Banner-runs out,effects yor shooting too.
Screaming Bell-What? pray to roll 9-10. What do you think his cannons,etc are going to shoot first?
Tunnel Team-15 points per guy/minimum! They won't be able to do alot once they get there,unless they fight basic/weak troops.
Misfire and they're gone.Scatter out of the Castle you're screwed too.
Skaven have alot of strengths,but they have there weaknesses too.

If I was a defender I wold go with alot of Jezzails and other shooting /magic.

If an attacker I would get as many WLC as I could and shoot the gates or take down the wall and walk in.

Remember,you don't get your rank/LD bonus while on the wall. That's what really hurts Skaven.

In a one-on-one siege, we do suck... sorry to say so, but our jezzails would only do something versus a gate. Nothing else, cause the walls are something we can't do a thing about (unless you are a warp-lightning cannon).

What then?

Only numbers can tell... so loads and loads and loads of clanrats. A storm banner would be good indeed.

Warlord with a fellbalde in a unit of clanrats with a cheiftain with a brass orb. hide them at the back of a 40 strong Clanrat unit and bring them forward to charge the walls. Watch the ***t load of damage that warlord can deal out. Oh, and maybe detach the cheiftain to throw the orb, not to bright if he takes out your warlord....

The only real problem with using a WLC in a siege is its random strength. While other armies have their strength ten cannons, we have a cannon that's destructive capabilities range from that of a normal cannon to that of smashing a goblin's head against the wall (which may actually do more damage).

A WLC can only do damage at S8-10 and if I would take the Storm Banner I'm sure that aChaos Dragon and a Wyvern would land on my head as well as about 20 Furies and Carrions. Even if I did little it was a Siege 16.000 pts attackers vs 8.000 points of defenders. They would lose sooner or later.
