Rules question about flank and rear charges; Concerning rank bonus

My question is this: If a unit that is not in combat is charged in the rear or the flank (by a non-skirmished unit with US 5+) do they lose their rank bonus? In other words, they are only fighting on one front, which is either their flank or rear.

For some reason I thought they only lost it if they were already fighting on one front (ie fighting from front and then charged in flank or rear), but when I tried to find the rule I couldn't.

You loose the rank bonus. On top of that, the charger gains either a +1 or +2 Combat Result for the flank- or rear-charge.

Note that characters are allowed to move to the attacked side of the unit. Champions have to stay in the front rank of the unit.

You probably mixed up 2 rules; This one.. and the one about the panic test. The panic test rule does require you are in combat and you are charged on another side by a unit with a 5+ Unit-Strenght

DM Mik is right.
But you have to wait util your next MV phase to move the Hero so he can fight.
If you're hit in the rear by a ranked unit, you might not be around that long.
