My friend plays dwarves. Everytime we play I can predict with great accuracy what his army consists of... (Flame cannon, cannon, bolt thrower...) And in our last two games, my screaming bell has destroyed all of his warmachines!!! HA HA HA I told him he should try an all infantry Dwarf army (no warmachines, except maybe a Gyrocopter or two). Has anybody played with or against an all infantry Dwarf army? If so, how well did it do? |

they dont work. without war machine casualties, they are so completely outnumbered that its just about hopeless. They fall prey to skirmishers and fast cavalry like nothing else.... |

All you would have to do is play defensively, as you will outshoot them when they hae no warmachines. I don't think it was very good advice. however, In combat, there isn't a single unit he has that can't beat you in cc. |

Actually....*Thinks about it* Oh yeah. The movement. It'd be slow as hell... Yeah, nevermind. It'd be a like a chaos army, but without the movment...or WS. |

clanrats stand a chance against marauders though and dwarves have NO overly-vulnerable units (90% have heavy armor, with the option for a shield. the rest have better). lots and lots of jezzails!!! (10-20) ratlings (2) and a WFT (1) twins grey seer PP or bsb for when they hit your lines 2 units of slaves, 3 of clannies try this: arm slaves with slings. put them in front of a hill (with ur jezzails on it?) and woe betide the unit who steps in front. 2 turns of 20-to-40-odd shots, plus the jezzails. night runners with slings dont bother with plague monks, rat ogres, or PCBs. a WLC would be useful. |

I think you could make it work, but I agree that you would be a victim to other shooty armies since the Dwarves are slower than slow. You might be able to counter with Miners or gyrocopters. It would take 4 turns minimum to cross the battle field (pitched battle) if your opponent didn't move. Quicker if you could get some H2H fighting and actually win and give chase! I just thought it might be a good idea, because if you know you have to fight dwarves, you usually design an army to deal with warmachines. Oh well.. something to try in the future! |

Check out Bugman's Brewery(a Dwarf site),there's tons of threads on this subject. Rune of Stromni(+1 CR to all units 12") Rangers (scout & ranks) Miner (undergound advance) Gyrocopters (fly) Slayers(unbreakable) Thunderers(move &shoot,+1hit close range) All dwarfs are relentess, they ALWAYS can march. It could surprise an opponent who is expecting alot of artillery. |

Their just slow. Lets say its a 48 by 48 board. Say you are at the very back of your deployment, the front of your units about 4 inches out. He starts at the very front of his deployment. Lets say you get first turn. He advances 6, hes 28. You shoot him with anything. Now hes 22. You shoot him with anything. Now most of his army is 16, and the thunderers are 19. Thunderers shoot, you shoot. Thunderers never move, begin to hurt you. Rest of his army is 10. You shoot. Now his army is 4, theoretically his units are too close for the thunders to shoot. You charge, shoot thunderers. You very possibly overrun his units in combat. If not, you lose, without putting up a fight. |

Rangers can scout. Miners are in reserve and can then appear on ANY table edge. Gyros fly 20 inches. |

Of course, if he plays defensively, holding all his units back and using miners to take out your Jezzies, WLCs and weapon teams, then you cuold very well be screwed... If all you have left to kill him with at long range is magic, then you're in for a tough time... |

Keep in mind that I am not saying this is a fool proof win everytime army list. Just that it may be something worth trying to throw off your opponent. A slow and steady army which keeps advancing on your troops. If you are suprised by it, you may not have enough fire power to deal with it. Then you would have to meet them in H2H, and have a good chance of losing. |

Gyros are war machines, but are used alot in an "offensive" Dwarf list. They're only T5,so are't affected by the Screaming Bell's special affect vs. T7 war machines. I would try to surprise the Dwarf player. Talk about how great Skaven magic is. Then show up with a "no magic" list. All his spell-breaking runes,Runesmiths, etc. will be wasted points. Go alot of troops and shooting. |

One of my friends used an all-Infantry Dwarf army. He took lots of Crossbow-armed Warriors and Thunderers and shot me to pieces. My 1000pts list got smashed, as I was taking so many casualties getting to him that I couldn't do much. It's difficult to beat an army which hides in a corner and shoots your **** off whenever you go near it. |

dwarf infantry armies can be pretty mean if your opponent knows how to use them. take for example, a monster unit of hammerers (w/ thane) and 24 slayers, shooting will do little damage to these units. Hammerers are stubborn and str6 w/ great weapon along with the tooled 'thane of pain'. even if you have this unit surrounded on all sides, the dwarfs will still beat the snot out everything (especially my friends HE cav army ). And slayers, as always just beat stuff up, especially if their entire front rank -standard bearer is a giant slayeryou: 'so I kill your entire front rank HA' dwarf: 'ok....I'll take my 16 attacks back' you: 'eep!' Although the army can be toyed with as everything else. Use night runners and giant rats to go around them, take out missle troops and cancel ranks, then just swamp them with walk combat res (slaves + CR's) |
