I have never played against a beastman army. Please share any tactics as a Skaven player, that I can use.

What units should I look out for?

My friend has just purchased a new beastmen army and we plan on playing a small game next week.

ratling guns will eat the herds, herd flank/rear charging you don't remove ranks so you keep your leadership bonus.

Monsters will give them most of their hard hitting.

Should be a fairly even matchup, they're a little more maneuverable, your a little more solidly packed. Don't leave Jezzails and WLCs unattended behind your lines though, as the ambush can take them out quite easily.

The biggest thing Beastmen have going for them is Ambush. Look out for Beast herds appearing at your rear/flank.
Herds get a +2 rank bonus maximum, second rank can fight with spears.

FEAR THE LEMMING!
Hope your enemy takes shields instead of two hand weapons...
I've had a unit of clan rats get charged by a unit of shield-gors, and run them down.
Beware of flank charges: You might be able to hold one turn, but not two...
Rear charges will be the end of you.
Beware of the ambush.
Beware of the Wargor with the two hand weapons...
I like black text you like black text lalala! lalala! ..wow, I already lost the tune to that song..
Folks, I may return or I may vanish, but know..

Their LD isn't too good. 6 or 7 I think.
Shoot them up and cause a few panic tests.
WFT might be good. Herds are skirmishers,so they'll be spread out. Maybe you can hit 2 herds with one shot. One casualty gives a panic check.
Gors with 2 hw can be tough opponents for Clanrats if they get the charge on you.
Outnumbering and te extra rank should tip the fight in your favor though.(hopefully)

Skaven
outnumber +1
3 extra ranks +3
standard +1
+5 total

Beastmen
+2 ranks/max
+1 standard
+3 total

They have no shooting, except for spells.
Fast skirmishers, fast chaos hounds, fast centigors. I would target ranked units if he has them(centigors, hounds, minotaur),you won't get the -1 hit for skirmishers then.
Ratling guns/WFT are good vs. herds- no "to hit" rolls.
Good luck! Write up a Battle report and let us know how it goes!

This is some of my experience with the Beasts.
(I have no experience with skaven vs beast so I will not try to tell what skaven units will be the best against the different beast units, but my general opinion on some of the beast units.)

The beast herds are easy target to shooting, this because you will hit the Ungors first T3. If they have a Fo-render(Clawleader) they will test on L7 otherwise L6. The herds can’t have a mark so they have only one chance on their tests.

The Centigors have move thro woods, they don’t get movement penalties in wooden terrain. They may also have throwing axes (only front rank may throw). They see normal 2” in wood.

The Bestigors are the best rank and file unit. They have heavy armour and great weapons. They may also be given a mark.

The Tuskgor chariots are also formidable if they get the opportunity to charge. The potential are 1 S6, 9 S5 and 1 S4 hits. And they have the mark of Undivided (re roll psychology test).

Ambushes are also something you have to have in mind. He can from turn two tell where he wants his units to come in on the table so you can’t plan with this before he enter. They will also come on the table even if he fails his leadership test. But then it is the scatter dice that decide where they will be deployed. All his units must come in, in the same turn. And they will not enter if his general is slain. So if his general is moving on its own it is wise to make him a target in shooting and magic faze.

I have not fought against larger creatures so I can’t give you my opinion on them.

He may also use units from the Hordes book, if you think he will use some of those units then there are a lot of daemonic units and units with very good hand to hand stats, but they will not be many.

Does he have a shaggoth? If he does, watch out for it!!!! Its the only part of the army I cant cope with. Warp lightning and ratling guns absolutely maul their chariots and beast herds, while your monks and clanrats can finish them off in combat.
Last game I faced them I would have had a massacre if it wasnt for my plague backfiring. <_<

I believe that as a Close Combat army he will take warrior heroes, which leaves him with 2 dispel dice. Every Shaman on top of that is good for you as this reduces
his fighting potential. Take a magic overwhelming army with 4 spellcasters, let magic tip the balance!
Good Luck!

Sammy's right. Beasts can go heavy magic. I've seen all Shamans too.Nasty.
Rattus Maximus;
Don't forget Herds are -1 hit for being skirmishers. But you're right, you always hit the Ungors first.
One Herd can get the mark/undivided. Unless the guy I played cheated. Reroll psych. tests, I think.
Bestigors,Khorngors, etc. are a very tough unit.Watch out for them.

What is going to happen if a WLC fires through skirmishers?
Nothing at all, hit the one you're aiming?

He cheated. No Beast herd can get mark. One Bestigor herd can have mark.

The WLC would still hit everything under its path. It wouldnt do as much damage to skirmishers because it would hit less of them, but its great for sniping the shamans/heroes in the unit.
or chariots. I suffer badly from chariots. In 1 game, a single chariot ran down 25 slaves, then rear charged my 25 stormvermin, killing them aswell. I now kill them ASAP.

Don't hero's in units of 5+ get the "look out sir" roll? Even vs. WLC and regular canons.

Can't the Best hero be given the mark undivided and join the Herd? Doesn't the reroll work on the unit if he leads it?
