I have played a few 500 pt battles lately and I have easily won both. I have heard some people say that the rules don't really hold up when playing a battle this small. Some say that horde armies have an edge. What does everyone think? Are 500 pt battles fair?

a little unfair, horde armies can use their numbers very effectively, especially if they have low cost characters, others simply cannot get the combat resolution and run (or crumble) a 500 point skaven army CAN be: Cheiftain with nothing extra = 45 91 clanrats divided up how you like without command just that would be able to combat res. any other army of the table, especially if you took 227 slaves instead of the Clanrats |

while some armies have definete advantadges or disadvantages (tomb kings have to spend about half their points on characters!!), 500 point games are almost all balanced. notable exceptions: goblin fanatics. they can wipe out an enemy unit that cost half his army allowance. vampire armies. necromancers can raise you tons of additional skellies per turn, leading to stupidly outmatched battles eshin triads. 210 points for three character-level models. these can eat through the smaller units like mad, and death to all characters. these are just a few off the top of my head. the disadvantaged ones are: tomb kings. they HAVE to take at least two fairly expensive characters. elves. VERY few numbers will negate their manouverability because they'll be outnumbered usually by at least 2:1. dwarves. will ALWAYS be hopelessly outmanouvered because they dont have enough units for a proper line. |

Yes, like in normal battles (think of the Armies of Doom) 500 pts battles, or did you mean border patrol, can be a pain in the ass. If you take a unit clanrats with a ratling, it's considered cheese. I already had a lengthy discussion on it, cause it was a warmachine... any problems? But, in the end... any army can be hell! Greetz |

so what I have concluded is that 500 pt battles are often not fair and if you want to play a small game play boarder patrol! Too bad my sweet 500 pt list has 2 heros in it <_<
