Question for Horde Players; Fielding Deep and Charge Zones

The last game I encountered the following problem. Fielding 5 wide and 7 deep the front of my unit can only see the flank however the majority of my unit still lies inside the frontal zone. I was told that I would have to make a 180+ degree turn and charge the front of the unit. This makes no sense to me as how can I charge something in the front when I do not have line of sight on the front of the unit. Has anyone else encoutered this problem and what was your solution? We decided to use the clipping rules and so I was able to charge the front of the unit with both units swinging in to meet one another.
"Let one fall so that ten more might take its place"
"But what if those ten should fall my lord?"
"Then let them be replaced by one hundred more"
"But my lord will not some be trampled in such a gathering?"
"Only those who get in the way"

I also play Bretonnians... and they have the same problem.

Here, we play it like this:

-If a unit can only see the side of the enemy, yet the majority of the unit lies in the front arc, they will charge the front.

-If needed, the unit and the enemy will be repositioned so they are able to do so, nudging each unit as little as possible, yet still ending up with a normal charge. This might lead to backing, wheeling, and general odd movement. 'dressage' we call if for my brets... *grins*

The reason for this is that the rules for when you can charge the side is very clear, yet in the appendixes they also makes clear that clipping and awkward charges should be avoided. So... we just tries to make the most of it, getting as many into combat as possible. Our goal is to make it look good.

We are all friends after all *grins*

Not sure how I'd rule it in a tourney...

it's two completely separate issues.

what side of the enemy unit your unit "sees" is irrelevant and is never mentioned, only that your unit must see the enemy unit.

what side it's supposed to charge is clear.

if you meet a master swordsman, show him your sword; but do not show your poem to one who is not a poet.

And may I just add.... 4x7... agh, that's insane!

*grins* reminds me of our local goblin player who did 4x10 blocks until he got tired of it *grins*

But as Phordicus says... they never do say which side your unit needs to see... *ponders*

Huh... Never thought about that before...
