Do not try to fight the Dwarf Lord.
Any veteran Dwarf player will take a nasty rune axe combo. One will be Rune of Swiftness- ALWAYS strikes first even vs. chargers. A big surprise vs. a charging enemy.

Fighting Dwarf Lords indeed is a bad idea, especially when they are accompanied by a unit of veterans. However, not all Dwarf players take rune axes. I don't. It's stupid to make a super killer character who may not even get into combat. Very possible versus Skaven. A 6 points great weapon and some armour is all he needs to cut your Skaven in twain anyway.
"I have a post-Armageddon vision. We and all other large animals are gone. Rodents emerge as the ultimate post-human scavengers. They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"

The rune of swiftness is only 25 points. You really don't need alot to kill a basic Skaven (T3) anyway.Gromrill armor, shield, rune of stone is cheap/effective defense too.

But an inexperienced player might charge the Dwarf lords unit, thinking he'll strike first & win the combat. If the Lord is tooled up he can wipe out the front rank.

Sorry.. wrong there; the fear-causer must have a higher Unit Strenght then the opponent it beats. The 25 clanrats don't make a difference. Yes.. overall you will almost certain have a higher US (and gain +1 CR), but you only count the rat-ogres for the auto-break...

Sorry, Mik, but it works. I didn't want to quote the book, but in this case, i can't do otherwise as the sentence only has 7 words and cannot be resumed. It said under sacred standard that ALL models in the unit cause fear. Thus, if said 25 clanrats + bsb win combat AND outnumber dwarves, they auto-break.

I was refering to his Rat-ogres. I know about the Sacred Standard

4.Stick a 25 strong Clanrat unit on the Flank cooperating with 2 Raat Ogre packs end watch them break any foe automatically.

That line says nothing about a sacred standard nor a chieftain in the unit who could have held it. *shrugs*

Is writing Dragon Age fanfiction

*grins* congratulations!

Well, isn't it fun to field a fighty skaven army?

I started out all grey seer tooled like everyone, and now my warlord runs the show completely. You just have to love the sacred Standard of the Horned Rat.

And a sneaky thing about the dwarves? Once he catches on and tools his army with just fighty stuff, then you change back and go all grey Seer and warplightning blasting army of doom. *grins* Always keep them guessing..

I am currently writing an epic Dragon Age 2 adventure that can be found HERE!! or on my deviantart.

Dwarfs can take magic standard that makes their unit cause fear too.
It is called the Master rune of Fear(imaginitive name).
