Do you get the Look out, Sir! rule when a character is hit by the cannon when in a unit? Some people say you do, some people say you don't.

I would say they do get a "look out sir" roll.
The rulebok says models are hit as a cannon ball.
Skaven have enough trouble with "cheese" as it is. Let's not throw gasoline on the fire.

yes. characters near a squad with unit strength 5+ always get one. It's not "throwing yourself infront", it would be "pushing the leader out of the path"

I think it works against all long ranged weapons....

Oddly enough, cannons and WLCs are considered template weapons. Really. I guess the "template" is your tape measure.

wrong.

the character has to be in a unit, not near it. if he's by himself, he's sol. rtfm.

sorry, that's what I meant, but thanks for pointing that out as some would doubtlessly get confused.

that's how i've been using it. time to buy a really wide tape measure!

nah, more than half an inch wide is cheese. ive seen a guy with a 1" wide tape measure try to pull that stunt with a cannon ball... he got flamed into oblivion by the rest of the club :D

on the other side of that spectrum, I was told to use the side of my tape (the side that's ~1mm wide) for my WLC while he whips out his regular length tape for his great cannon. Lets just say I'm glad I blew up his cannon with mine :D woo hoo go str8!

thats comonly known as bullshit. a regular tape measure (1/4" to 1/2") is acceptable size for a cannonball, lightning beam, burning head(lore of fire), etc
