Ahh, thought so *grins* Somehow empire players in particular get soo annoyed when something can outshoot them. Have you tried showing him what your units costs, and expained that a mortar can annihilate as much as your army, for far less the price? If I remember correctly the mortar is about the same price as the five jezzails. Besides, five of them, that's 1 2/3 of a hit when they shoot at long range, 1.4 wounds, 0.92 dead knights after saves (they do have 1+ armour save, right? Can't remember. And the jezzail is -4 save?). One dead knight a turn... if you're lucky. The ratling gun can be painful with luck though... It might be painful... but try to point out that he has things in his list which are as effective against rats as your stuff is against him. Sometimes the best way to stop their whining is to show them how nasty their own list can be, because most of the time it is just frustration that they can't seem to win. And after the chaos massacre I suspect tempers were running high... Perhaps the problem really is that he's using the wrong troops for the job. But then again, I could be wrong and he could simply be a sore looser... |

I think only the inner circle knights have 1+ armor save, the rest have 2+. With this setup, you're almost as likely to kill a jezzail as an enemy.
There's a lot of that going 'round, but experience and actually caring to learn are needed to fix that. Also, does he play 40k? 40k players tend to have a difficult time "crossing over", since the games' designs are different enough to make it seem similar, while hurting you if you act like they're the same game. |

Inner circle? Ah that might be it then. Those are the ones i usually run into... Pesky buggers... And you're righ about 40K. Especially beware if they have played space marines there, because, well... then they're used to being immune against mostly anything nasty. |

I think he should just stop complaining... gw would not have made anything unfair so if you wish to feild jezzails you can and no poncy empire player can stop you. |

I wouldn't go that far! Discussing the relative strengths and weaknesses of an army and its components is very useful to players and to GW. Maybe do the "army swap", where you use each other's army for a game. You take more notice of the misfires when they happen to you, and less when they happen across the table from you. |

Well, it's all about perspective, I guess. He equalled you in the magic department (each with an effective level 2 and a bound item), he had 40 shooters to your 15 (jezzails and slings) + 2 weapon teams, and he had 2 war machines to the WLC. Plus, he had 2 killer CC units (assuming that the banner goes in the greatswords) and the detatchment rules (swordsmen are roughly equal to clanrats). I'd say that of the 2, you had the more balanced list. I'm not saying that I wouldn't play against his, but I don't I could take it with the list you provided. Well, maybe, but I'd have to play fast and loose with the slaves (deploying them as 10x2 screens). I would say that the only way to show him the quality of the respective lists is to play a few games, but if he's the way I'm beginning to think, if he wins he'll still insist that you're the cheesey one and complain endlessly that he lost a single knight, while degrading you that you couldn't even beat him with a cheesey list. |

Yea you hit the nail on the head with that 1. Oh and the BattleBanner was in the unit of 36 swordsmen with the general. I do tend to use my slaves as 10 by 2 shields. Incidently i have beaten him quite badly with my basic list, i think thats why he moans so much. |

Oh I do hate that kind of player with a passion. That is why I never play them more than twice... And the list... *groans* Talk about a min-maxed empire list. I am beginning to agree with Verminious Fang (that is such a fun name to say out loud) that he might be a hard guy to deal with. I mean if he complains about cheezy skaven with a list like this himself... *groans more* Do the other players have the same problem? Or has he just singled out the Skaven to hate? From my experience the chaos tends to catch a lot of flack from people that likes wo whine as well... |

No he only moans about the Skaven, even though the Chaos army trashed him completey. From the very start he has had a hatred for all things Skaven, i think it must be a Rat related incident when he was young Anyway i wonder how soon before he starts to field Hellblaster volley guns. *grins* maybe... but then at least there's hope And if he fields the hellblaster, then he can't complain about the ratling guns anymore, seeing as they are approximately the same. But then again, logic never stopped people from complaining before... Good luck anyway! |
