Hello skaven warlords and chieftans, I am toddums from da-warpath.com. I have an urge to start a skaven army....They just looks so cool, and the fluff is awesome. I am painting a globadier right now (got tired of painting my orcs), and if it turns out well I might start a skaven clan. ANy thoughts? |

Welcome to the best race in the old world! One thing you'll quickly figure out is the great variables in Skaven armies, almost to the point where no two skaven armies are the same. With the many abilities of the greater clans, it's possible to make an army suited only to yourself, and it is only through trial and error that you will discover what you work with best. Example: I love a big unit of Plague Monks with the Banner of Hatred, a Plague Priest and Censer Bearers running around, but there are some who don't even use a single member of Clan Pestilens in their army; and I hardly ever use anything from Clan Eshin, whereas others use who armies of them. The skaven is a force of unpredictable power, and always entertaining to play. Enjoy. |

FEAR THE LEMMING!

The Skaven are fun to play. You know when a rock from a lobba lands on the enemies super elite unit and kills all of them? You'll know a joy greater then that when your plauge spells backfires and kills all you're own troops. Or when your WLC turbo charges and kills you general, sending your army fleeing. Or when the Screaming Bell blows itself up, causing half your army to panic. Or when all your Warlock Engineer's fry themselves. Or when the Jezzials begin to plow themselves up. Or when that expensive Rattling gun of yours turns and kills your even more expensive unit of Stormvermin, causing them, and the rest of your army, to run. Or when your Warpfire Thrower catchs on fire, proceeding to run into your front line, causing them to break and exposing all the expensive guns that had been covering them. Or when you watch the Assassins of Clan Eshin destroy your enemies characters... Or the weapons of Clan Skyre decemate that 745 point Blood Dragon Vampire Lord. Or when the fighters of Clan Pestelence destory that unit of 1+ save Knights of the Realm. Or when the beasts of Clan Moulder do flank charges which destory your enemies ranks, gain your combat resoultion, and send the enemy fleeing so you can destory them. Start the Skaven! They are so far the best army I've played, and the funnest. |

Hey Toddums, Like you i was an Orc player who started a Skaven army, although i did dabble with the Tomb Kings for awhile. I've never looked back. I,ve never played a more enjoyable, competitive, sometimes frustrating, but always funny army. The variety of units makes for interesting army choices. I also think the associated fluff is the best in the Warhammer world. Chieftain Skittar WE SHALL INHERIT! |

good on you we need as many skaven players as we get... get lots of clanrats and ratling guns or warpfire throwers they make things die ^Warpfire^. skaven are one of the most fun races to play (alongside orcs) and are the most explosive. |

You'll quickly find that Clan prefences are personal choice. Just fool around and find out what you like (most people love Skry're). |

I hate Skyre. What are you talking about? *Pets his 5 Jezzials and Warlock Engineer...* Don't do an army based on Moulder. It may look good at first, but without any rank bouns, don't except to stick around for long. |

Grey Seer
|
depends if you want to go warlord or wizardlord. Wizardlord is the easiest to play with. Get (for starters) a grey seer on screaming bell, warlock engineer, 2 war heroes. a unit of 4-5 rat swarms. unit of stormvermin (25) w/ warp fire thrower. 2 units of clanrats (25+) w/ ratling guns. 2 units of slaves w/ spears (20-25). 2 units of niterunners (10/10). 2 unit of tunnelers (5/5). 1-2 units of 6 jezzails. 1 warplightning cannon. That equals about 2400 - 2500 pts. Mostly shooty, but that is your best bet @ bootcamp. Your muscle is provided by stormvermin escorted screaming bell, and clanrat escorted warheroes (1-3 magic weapons that increase thier strength). You should be fine on magic, unless your opponent uses nothing but wizards. This list is also the cheapest 2500 pt skaven army you could finance. I would also suggest trying the internet to obtain the models for less than retail. Good luck!

*Chokes* All that for starters?!? Man, that's only a bit less than I've got, and I've been collecting this edition of Skaven since it came out. *Chokes again, then faints* *Gets up again* If you don't happen to have the bottomless wallet that 'Ttakquick appears to have (if you get tired of it 'Ttakquick, you can send it to me ), I suggest starting with the plastic units (Clanrats and Night Runners) and a Hero. For slaves, I'd suggest buying non-Skaven troops, as it's more fun, and you can have a break from painting clanrats, but this has all been said before.Gratz on choosing the best army in the Old World. *Remembers 'Ttakquick's bottomless wallet. Faints again* |

Seer of Clan Virilus
|
All I've got to say is that nothing, and I mean nothing, is quite like the feeling you get when your Assassin, whom the enemy has been ignoring, lobs his Brass Orb and takes out that 600pt 2nd generation Slann and 4 of his bodyguard. And when your Grey Seer then gleefully cast Plague unopposed... and slaughters half your Stormvermin and Clanrats.

ive done that... 1st bonuce says byebye to 5 saurus... 2nd kills 4 more in another unit... next bounce hits a unit of 40 clanrats, wipes out 19. last bounce hits the night runners, killing NINE out of ten. advice: dont give slaves spears. give a ratling to the stormvermin, then urnbranner, and shoot into combat (they get a very nice ward save against it). give at least one clanrat unit the WFT. i love these things. made a unit of cold one knights (DE) run off the table 2nd turn. |
