Captain Squeek looked carefully along the edge. "Well? Is it safe-safe" "Of course-course it is, why do you-you think I picked this route?" Captain Squeek knew which way he had to go to assassinate his rival, the dreaded Willy Sewer. For this job he had hired a couple of Night Runners, but the price, he thought, had been way to high; they were even scared of their own shadow, let alone what happened if one's tail touched another. They already had to evade 3 Empire patrols in this sewer, because of those ratlike chickens. Still, he knew they were as fast in battle as they were afraid, which he considered as a good thing. Now he had to meet with the Triad he also hired, in case the Night Runners would be scared to death. Then he saw his spies coming back. The small rats said the Triad was there, and were already near the enemy. "Good-good", thought Squeek. But the small rats had more to tell, namely that an enemy force was closing in on their position, and the Triad were waiting for them to help. But this force wasn't Willy's, it was not even a Skaven one. It was a patrolling team of <insert opponent's race here>. Squeek knew he had no option of evading again, he had to fight.

although triads are dangerous they have to be very carefull. I have found in small games they rarely kill their points worth of opponents becuase If they go into combat against ranked units they often lose and run and if they spend the entire battle using throwing stars they kill very little. 12 gutter runners with 2 hw and stars (all poisoned) will kill alot more for (roughly) the same points.

My tactics would be (with the current list). scout the triad and pester enemy units with stars .if a character refuses to expose themself then throw the triad and single rat swarm at them. The triad kill the character (at least 300pts in the bag) then lose combat and flee. The enemy is still in combat with the rat swarm unbreakable so next turn the triad rallies and is back in the batlle again. this rocks in small games. spend the rest of the batlle running round the side of the enemy units with NRs pelting them with stars. They cant march because youre too close and they cant charge cos your out of their line of sight.

Well, although the Triad rarely kills its points value, I do not need them to, if they kill any characters it's good enough, like you said 300 points + whatever damage I can do with stars and any flank/rear charges if I feel like it, the game is practically won. With some fighting power in the form of the chieftain, I do not think I will be overpowered that easily.

Oh yeah Forgot about the cheftian. I played a game (not border patroll) Just 500 pts against high elves. He took 8 silver helms, A fighty character, a bolt thrower and an eagle. I took 2 units of 10 NRs (2 weapons and stars) an assasin with the gouger and somke bombs and an eshin sorceror with smoke bombs.

I took first turn and basicly just moved right from one flank straight across the board th the other making sure I was out of his charge ark (The lowest darkness roll I made was an 8 meaning the whole battle was pretty unaffected by it) Magic phase 3 dice skitterleap to move the assasin into contact with the bolt thrower crew. Oh look! 13!
The assasin proptly disposed of the bolt thrower crew.

The battle ended with me wiping him out completely by turn 4. The eagle killed the assasin (who took a wound off it) But then lost another wound to 10 NRs in combat before Fleeing. By my fourth turn It had rallied and a volley of throwing stars finished it off.

That game I lost 2 models. My assasin and a single NR who died at the hands of that eagle.

But border patroll I would still favour GRs. Kill way more than a triad. plus with that ammount of poisoned attacks most heros have to be affraid. Another game my 10 Night runners removed a wound from an extreemely hard Sarus scar vet. He had charged and killed one. The Champion and one trooper (5 attacks) got 2 wounds through and then he rolled a one for his armour save.

Enough attacks will sort out even the hardest characters.
