Day 28; Cllective Skaven Fluff for Day 28

Ok... Here's what I came up with for Day 28 based on the recent writings and battle reports for today from various Skaven players, including the users:

magrat
Warlock13
Jackety
UnderempireMutator
myself and a few others.

I tried to do this in the manner of the Loremaster's Journal, just to see how it would work out. I pretty much just threw all of the relevant and widely-effecting events in certain player's stories into one big mix. Deathmaster Mik is welcome to use any of this he likes as well for his own purposes. Anyway, here is what I have so far. Please comment. Suggestions?:

THE SKAVEN AT HERGIG
Following the capture of the Struhelspan bridge by the use of bizarre tunneling machines, the Skaven hoards that have continuously been somewhat of a herald to the Slaanesh forces under Styrkaar of the Sortsvinaer since the initial assaults on the village of Zundap seem to have finally broken off from this huge wave of deranged and sadistic Chaos followers, and have begun many and varied attempts to raze and assert their dominance over the Hotchland capital of Hergig farther south. This is perhaps an indicator that the Skaven forces in the southern Middenland are not simply scavenging the ruins of what the Slaanesh front leaves behind, and that the rat-men have an agenda of their own in the works, merely using the main Chaos attack on the northern Empire as a diversion for their own ends. Most prominent among these southern Skaven swarms are the servants of the Grey Seer the men of the Empire have come to know as ‘Verminous Fang,’ whose genius was instrumental in the fall of both Zundap and the Struhelspan. After these successes, many other Skaven warbands have since joined the ranks of this dark prophet of the Horned One, and it is apparent that the Skaven front will surely begin to gain great momentum as the numbers of Verminous Fang are continuously bolstered, for more and more of the vile rat-men flock to his banners with every day’s passing.

With the aid of earth-shaking barrages from passing Chaos Dwarf artillery trains en route to the village of Esk and beyond, many of the marauding Skaven forces have surrounded the city of Hergig from the outside, perhaps in preparation for a grand assault en masse, and more than a few Skaven contingents have already breached Hergig in places where the walls have been reduced to little more than smoldering rubble by the terrifying power of the Chaos Dwarf earthshakers and hellcannons. True to their nature, many more Skaven agents and small warbands have infiltrated the well-defended city from underneath, utilizing the tunnels and passages of their underempire to great advantage. Should the rat-men utilize the same machines they did underneath the Struhelspan, than the city of Hergig is surely doomed. As the defenders of Hergig, including scattered numbers of Dwarfs, Elves, and the renowned Hergig Jaegerkorp, man the battlements, fiercely driving back the tide of verminkin, the beleaguered citizens continue to die from mysterious illnesses never before encountered, choking fits of severe coughing hacking at their lungs and throats, strange poxes spreading across their pale and sickly skin. Indeed, rumors abound of diseased Skaven fanatics poisoning the city’s water wells, and unusually high numbers of rats have been seen scuttling through the streets, infesting mill houses, and depleting much needed food stores. Many mutter the name ‘Nilax’ under their breaths, pointing out many obscure and mysterious signs left behind by unknown hands. Perhaps worst of all in the midst of this siege are the reports and tales that Count Leudenhof himself has been assassinated by Skaven agents under the cover of darkness. This, of course, is mere speculation by the frightened and superstitious common folk, but the fact that has not been seen by anyone for a small number of days worries many, and some even speak of hearing gunshots and blood-curdling screams from his quarters one night. City officials assure the citizens that the Count has merely been conferring with his war council these past few days, but more than a few believe otherwise. Whatever the case may be, the fighting in Hergig is coming more and more desperate as the Skaven become increasingly more bold in their attacks, and the prospect of a single massive push by the rat-men is beginning to look increasingly more and more likely in the days to come. This is indeed a great cloud hanging over the heads and spirits of the defenders of Hergig, and the last thing they need is the loss of their foremost leader.

THE SKAVEN ELSEWHERE
Although increased sightings and attacks have made it apparent that primary target of the dread rat-men of the underworld lies in the south, their presence has been felt elsewhere in the Middenland.

After the inevitable capture of the Nordbergbruche, the Skaven have continued to aid the forces of Chaos in the north as allies to the Tzeentchian champion Cyspeth the Gifted, son of the deceased Melekh the Changer, attacking ahead of the Tzeentchian front, using the innumerable tunnels, caves, and small mountain passes to ambush varying defense positions in order to make Cyspeth’s advance that much easier. The forces of Chaos have now begun an all-out siege of the mighty Brass Keep. As the minions of the great Changer of Ways endlessly batter the walls outside, their Skaven allies have come to their help once again, proving that no fortress is impregnable as the forces under command of the Skaven chieftain Skritchskricth and others infiltrate the keep from forgotten tunnels and poorly guarded sewers. This could very well be the undoing of the valiant yet unwatchful defenders of Brass Keep.

As the decrepit children of Nurgle lead the assault on the village of Esk, reports come in of equally putrid and decayed Skaven agents infiltrating and executing operations from within the sewers beneath the town. Whether they are in league with the Chaos forces amassing there or if they have their own agenda has yet to be seen, but their mere presence can’t possibly bode well for the defenders at Esk.

The savage attacks on the town of Untergart have seen more than just the horrid beast-soldiers of Khazrak One-Eye. A host of deformed mutants and insane, gibbering rat-beasts under the whip of Master Mutator Skar march alongside the likes of gors and minotaurs, attacking Untergart suddenly from underneath in true Skaven fashion. Exactly how many disturbed minions serve under the mad scientist is unfathomable, but it is now clear that the Skaven of Clan Moulder will play a much more direct role in the fate of the Middenland than simply providing their tortured creations for use by the Lord of the End of Times himself.

With the exception of Hergig, Skaven presence has undoubtedly been felt at the cursed and ruined castle of Bohensfels more than anywhere else. In the wake of the failed Tzeentchian assault, verminkin have come to the area in literal hoards, completely infesting the haunted caverns and tunnels underneath Bohensfels. This huge gathering of Skaven nearly rivals even the vast host in the south in size and capability. It is as of yet unknown if the Skaven hoard under Bohensfels has openly acted on what remains of the defenders there, but it is said that the evil machinations of Clan Skryre are at work in the underdark of Bohensfels, and there are even rumors that the city has already fallen to countless attacks and raids making wide use of the new Skryre drilling machines, which have seen great successes elsewhere, a Master Warlock Engineer by the name of Kreninthratch Kripsqueek overseeing the excavations. Headed by a small council of Grey Seers, including a powerful Seer by the name of Istovil, it is obvious that Bohensfels will remain an important Skaven stronghold for ages to come, whether the castle on the surface is actually taken or not. Indeed, any hope of a rally by the defenders and a resultant attack on the rear of the Chaos forces will first have to overcome the terrible threat that waits like a cancer underneath their own feet. Many have heard the tolling of bells around Castle Bohensfels as fears arise of losing the long-lasting keep once and for all to the wretched Skaven.

And remember... Everyone who writes fluff for the campaign, try and incorporate as much as the more relevant Skaven events in your stories as you can. This includes Project Supremacy headed by Shiva (See his threads for updates in that area.). If you're in the business of writing up 'fluffy' battle reports, see if you can even perhaps get your opponents to agree to special rules and scenarios for Warhammer battles based off of the Skaven fluff that I and others collect, so that you may incorporate events of other Skaven stories into your own more widely. And I've also noticed that many Skaven players (Including myself.) have sarted to widely use the slogan "We Shall Inherit" in their writings. That's just one of the many examples I am talking about. Anyway... Tell me what you all think.

And keep that fluff coming!

I am absolutely gobsmacked. That is fantastic!

Also a helluva lotta work, so we'll keep those reports rolling in to make your job easier.

I'm off to write up some more of Master Mutator Skar's exploits now ;) [edit: just done another preliminary report...and it was pretty bad ]

I or Giantrat might have another interesting tidbit for you, to drop alongside Project Supremacy some time in the very near future...

Keep it up - and dont forget to recruit willing members, we dont want you to burn out.

Terrific writing as usual, Psychosium. Its good to know that you can write both in a deep narritive fashion and also in the blow by blow fashion of the Loremaster Journal. Good work.

I have to head up to the college today to fill out some paperwork as they've hired me as a writing tutor for the fall. After that I should be able to write up at least a small fluffy tale.

Thanks for the mention :D I hope those ignorant souls of Hergig try turning to Nurgle to save them from the plague...only to discover he has no say over the effects of MY toxins, buahahahaha...

Don't mind at all. ;)

Great!.. would looove to see more of this stuff. It's like Warpstone snuff or Skavenade in written form; addictive.
I like how it incorperates most of the other key-races too.

Thank magrat for the assassination attempt. It was his story that I pulled that bit from. But the fact that it was mentioned twice by two different people probably convinced the GW guys to use it... Which reinforces the entire point of this collective fluff stuff! See? It works. B)
