Warlock
The Thing that goes Squeek in the Night

>Skrik pulled his tail out from under the stone and held it up for his forces to see.
"The man-things will pay! Today we take Hergig!"
Skrik kept his tail raised high as his army chanted. The remaining defenders of Hergig covered their ears and whipsered prayers to the gods as the skaven voices fell over the town. They knew the skaven were coming and they feared for their lives.

>Skrik arrayed his army and checked the strength. The last battle had really hurt his forces and hoped that the messengers returned swiftly with reinforcements. Also, he hoped that the gutter runners had made it to their target. As he gave one more look over the army, he ordered the march into Hergig. Skrik could feel the bloodied stump where his tail had been. He placed the tail in his pouch and followed his forces into Hergig.

>As they neared the city center, Skrik heard the sounds of hooves against cobblestones and looked to his left to see another forces of valiant Bretonnian knights confronting his skaven. He issued orders and took the lead of one of the clanrat regiments. As the knights spurred their steeds towards the ratmen, the skaven readied their swords and prepared to do battle with the man-things. Skrik powered up his bracers and drew his sword. His armor glimmered with warp energy- a new addition from Skryloque's inventive mind. The knights impacted the front of the clanrats and cut through the ranks swiftly. As the clanrats fought to hold their ground, the immense Rat Ogres charged into the flank of the knights. The globadiers lobbed their glass spheres high and the battlefield filled with poisonous fumes which choked and burnedthe man-things' lungs. Skrik could smell the poison, but thankfully the globadiers were careful where they threw there weapons.

>Skrik had just felled a knight when he heard more chittering and battle cries from behind the knights he was in combat with. It was Chieftain Skerbil with more clanrats and the replacement weapons! As they impacted the rear of the knights, all of the skaven were bolstered and became more courageous when they saw Skerbil's Battle Standard of the Horned Rat. The knights turned to flee but were trapped in a seething mass of fur and steel and were cut down. Those that held were swarmed and pulled from their mounts. Skrik felt a pain in his shoulder as a steel tip burst through his flesh. An arrow had become lodged through his arm. He screeched in pain and turned to see some man-things with bows. They radied for another volley and released. Shafts filled the sky as many of the clanrats lifted their shields. Those that weren't quick enough were pinned to the ground.

>Skrik ordered a charge on the bowmen, but before his unit could reach the man-things, the ground gave way beneath the bowmen and only black cloak and dagger could be seen through the dust. Skrik grinned that the gutter runners had done well, but hoped they had also achieved their mission. Meekit clambered out of the hole as he charged a bolt of warp lightning and flung it into another unit of bowmen fleeing from the gutter runners. The peasants were burnt alive and none were left.

>All around the town center skaven hacked down knight after knight and Skrik knew he was winning. Few Bretonnians remained and there still lived many of his forces. That's when another huge stone landed almost on top of Skrik's foot. The warlord looked over to see the ruins of a building come alive and begin to hurl boulders at nearby skaven. The ratmen were confused as the buildings lost their foundations and hailed stone from the sky. Any trees within the courtyard struck out at those ratmen foolish enough to come close to the branches reach. Skrik pondered what was causing this, but soon found the sight of a human lady upon a pegasus flying over the battlefield. Skrik ordered all of his guns to fire upon the mage and although they came close, nothing could hit her. Skrik then told Meekit and Skryloque to focus their magics on the wizard, but against the Prophetess' power their spells failed. Skrik cursed once more and then had a wonderful idea. He whispered to Skryloque who rubbed his clawed hands together with glee. He reached into his robes and retrieved the Brass Ord he had made. Meekit stepped carefully away from his rival- as he knew Skryloque had a tendency to blow himself up. Skryloque pressed a button along the side and the sphere lighted up. The engineer lobbed it high into the air and as it reached the pinnacle of its height, it created a black clouad that absorbed all within it. The mage could not react quickly enough to avoid the darkness and disappeared from this realm. Skrik and the engineers grinned and turned to see the rest of the skaven watching the blackness as well. The streets were covered in blood and gore and the few knights that had survived limped from the battle, without their mounts. Skrik brought his tail to the tree in the town center and hung it from one of the branches. He inscribed the symbol of the Horned Rat upon its bark and bade the engineers to pour some of their magics into the tree. It shriveled and twisted and became a horrid abomination of its once lively form. Skrik then rallied his troops and spoke to them.
"This is to remind the man-things that they will never defeat us. They cannot stand against the Horned One. WE SHALL INHERIT!"

>With that the skaven carried the chant over the air through the lands their chanting reached the ears of the skaven generals near Breder, those still in Zundap, and the forces assulting the Brass Keep. The skaven would show their power before Middenheim fell and none would stand in their way.
