3000 points Breakthrough scenario Skaven vs Dwarfs at Nordbergbruche

Seer Skoll was very pleased with himself. Word had come from the Council of Thirteen, and they were following his actions with satisfaction. Wiping out the huge Imperial army at Ferlangen, with only a limited loss of resources, had been a masterpiece of Skaven ingenuity. Now the orders were to advance on the mountain bridge, and break the Imperial defenders holding it. Strong artillery positions overlooking the road to the bridge would make a direct approach almost impossible, but luckily, a direct approach is not the Skaven way. Using the tunnels, his force would sneak up from behind, and break through the man-things positions. Let the Chaos-things take the direct approach in a head-on assault, and feel the sting of the mortars and cannons.
Seer Skoll had been intrigued by the actions of the Chaos Lord Archaon at Bohsenfels. This had been a strange way to get rid of an under performing chieftain. A swift poisonous blade in the dark would have been so much more discrete. But again, as expected, it was proof that the alliance of Chaos clans would not hold. For now, they would weaken the Empire of man and their Dwarfen allies, and further the Skaven cause. But soon, the bitter rivalries would come to the surface again; Chaos would weaken itself, and be defeated, and the Skaven would take control. It all fitted the greater plan.
Some excited chittering of his clanrats brought the Seer’s thoughts back to the things at hand. A Dwarfen army had taken up positions to block their advance on the bridge. Brightly glowing runes burned across the Seer’s mystic sight. Quickly, a battle plan formed in the Seer’s mind. It would be difficult, only a few paths of advance would be available to his bulky army, groups of trees, a raging torrent, and a small lake were making the mountainous terrain even more difficult to manoeuvre in. If he could not get past the numerous Dwarfs, he would just have to get through them.
His force quickly advanced on the enemy positions. With slight unease, Seer Skoll saw that the Dwarfs were adjusting the aim of a rune-encrusted cannon, drawing a bead on his beloved Screaming Bell. Quick-Quick, ring my bell, he hissed to the striker. Ten times the bell tolled, the resonance destroying the Dwarfen cannon, and damaging the stone throwers. The crew of the cannon pulled their beards in dismay, their masterpiece of Dwarfen engineering destroyed before it could fire a single shot.
But still, rank upon rank of handguns were pointed at the Skaven troops, and the two stone throwers were operational, although one was creaking under the strain of its load. An Engineer was making hasty repairs to its damaged frame. Seer Skoll ordered Chieftain Squiqit to unfold his Storm Banner, which severely impaired the Dwarfen missile fire. As the smoke cleared, a single clanrat lay dead with a bullet embedded in its skull, and a rat ogre limped because of the stone shrapnel in its leg.
The Seer was now within casting range for his most potent spells, and although the Dwarfen Runesmith drained away some of his casting force, he could rain dead on his foes. Five dwarf-things with the long white fur dropped dead from the plague, four gunners coughed up blood and succumbed, and warp lightning struck a warriors unit, killing seven. Assassin Sneakit skitterleaped into position, and tossed a brass sphere at the feet of the Dwarfen general. Reality was ripped apart as the orb detonated, sucking seven unfortunate Iron Breakers into the Realm of Chaos, their souls lost forever. One of the ancient warriors had given up his life to protect the general from harm. Blood dripped from Seers Skoll’s snout and ears, a side effect of the raw warpstone he was consuming to power his spells, but he was too ecstatic to notice. He giggled maniacally as the bell tolled thirteen times, breaking the courage of a block of warriors and a unit of Thunders. The tunnelling team overran one stone thrower, the Dwarfen Engineer and his crew struck down by sharp poisonous blades.
Soon, battles and skirmishes were raging all over the battlefield, unit after unit of Dwarfs were broken and run down. Seer Skoll dug into his pouch for another shard of warpstone to enhance his plague-spell. Blood was leaking from his eyes now too, and his concentration lapsed for a moment. His plague spell surged out of control, not only affecting three Dwarfen units nearby, but also his own unit of Clanrats and another large block of Clanrats nearby. Dozens of warriors fell to the ground, hacking and coughing and dying within seconds. Seer Skoll, already weakened by a warpstone overdose, slumped down on his platform and passed out. To add insult to injury, a ratling gun nearby was so stunned by the plague carnage that it mowed down ten clanrats in the Screaming Bell unit.
For a moment, the Skaven assault faltered, and the six remaining Dwarfs gained new hope. But Chieftain Squiqit led the force on through the Dwarfen lines, smashing aside the last desperate line of defenders. Lord Azaghal still lived, and vented his anger on the straggling jezzail teams, but all he could do was watch, as the victorious Skaven army marched off the field of battle, onwards to the Nordbergbruche.

Chieftain Squiqit ascended the ladder leading to the platform atop the Screaming Bell. Seer Skoll was in a terrible state; blood, vomit and pus matted his fur. The Stormvermin was pushing the bell forward at a steady pace, replacing the clanrats that lay rotting in the sun on the field of battle. Yellow tears leaked from the Seer’s eyes, but he still lived. Quickly, Squiqit smeared skalm on the Seer’s body, hoping that the potion would still have its affects. “Did we win?” the Seer asked weakly. “Yes, great Seer, we smashed them apart.” “Good-good, now guide us to the black cairn, and let me rest.” The Skaven force marched on unchallenged, destined for their rendezvous point, where their numbers would be replenished for their next assault on the Nordbergbruche.

Hindsights:

In order to win this scenario, you need to get a third of your army value into the enemy deployment zone. This gave me some troubles, as characters do not count, and almost 1000 points were spent on characters in this army (Seer + Bell 530; Chieftain + banner 149; Chieftain + Skavenbrew 103 and Assassin + orb 175). After wiping out two 30-strong clanrat units (mostly by myself), I made it really difficult for myself to win. I just managed to pull it off (which was only fair, because I killed 139 out of 141 Dwarfs). The brass orb was awesome, ripping the heart out of the general’s unit. It was the first time I managed to hit something with it! Plague is great, but you shouldn’t get to greedy with it. Sometimes it pays to let it end if you throw a 5 or 6, instead of hitting the next unit of the opponent, because you might throw a 1 or 2 next, and give your opponent an opportunity to wipe out one of your units.

Are you the infamous Skoll who was mentioned in the Loremaster's Journal, by any chance?

Yes, yes, I payed many warptokens to the Lorescriber for that B) .

It was great, I had posted a battle report on the SoC site (Skaven at Ferlangen, July 12). Gav used it to add some fluff to the Ferlangen defeat, and give some credit to the players of the other races. I went nuts when I saw it.

Praise the Horned One!

Wow, so that makes two people from here mentioned on the SoC site...
By the way congratulations on the victory. Killing 139 out of 141 Dwarfs, now that's quite something...

Your doing pretty good, with no losses in 11 battles!

Nice story by the way, against the Elfs. The other guy must have been pretty upset when you took the head off the dragon, and pasted his general
