Among my friends, a clan Skyre army is considered possibly one of the best Broken Armies in the game and it's SOOOO easy to win with them. I've considered Skyre for how cool they are, however, if everyone's so -bleh- about it, is there really a point? Could someone explain why someone might think such things and then tell me why it isn't true..?

Well a skryre army can be made extremely shooty. Its possible to have up to four warplightning cannons in a 2000pt army. |

This is the part of the armylist that Ant Reynolds wants redone! All Skyres weapons are slightly overpowered - 4WLCs in 2000! Then there is the ratling gun which encourages a defensive play - adds to the skaven gunline theme > Matt |

4 WLCs in one 2000 point list can only be done with the opponent's permission appendix list. |

Still 2 WLCs is major difficult for your enemy to deal with - I think they will be made a 0-1 choice when the book gets re-done! Giantrat |

They're really only effective against monsters. The best defence against the WLC cannon is to maneuver so that even if the thing works, his choices are limited to single wound models (multi-wounds do not transfer to other models, so the D6 wounds is worthless against clanrats, for example). My group tends not to favor monsters. Hence, the WLC is useless in my gaming group (1, 2 or 20, not one will earn it's points value). OK, sure, you can pick out characters in units (who get a "look out, sir" roll), but then a smart player won't deploy his characters outside of units or near you WLC (OK, you plce last, but he can still move to where it'll be impossible to hit him unless you roll well for range). If a guy takes a dragon, then the WLC is good deal. But since both lists are made blind, well, sooner or later he'll stop taking dragons and your WLC will be useless, then you'll be stuck in deterence mode: Take a model that will only earn its points if the other guy calls your bluff. Once the game of "Dead man's bluff" stalemates, you'll both end up not taking the monster or the WLC. |

Yes, but hitting one model per rank (OK, it's different from the cannon it that it hits everything under the line, but it works out almost the same) has been ineffective... At least it has against me (played Empire a few times...). The flame template and the 2 round templates are infinitely better (stupid Mortars ).

It's pretty easy to kill pure skyre-armies... most ppl just dont know how to deal with them. IF you know how to fight them, they're much more easier to kill then big mass-unit skaven armies. |

The rules for the appendix list says you should ask permission, not that you have to, my friend made that very clear when he used the old eshin list..... |

first of all, yes this is true, at least in canada all appendix list have been made legal for GW run events. Skyre can be a very devastating army to play against, it will own most armies in bothe the magic and shooting phase, so right of off the bat it has 2 glaring weaknesses, the movement and close combat phases. if you can successfully get your army into combat against a skyre list, you will beat them. Also with the appropriate manouvering, you can beat them. Although they may seem very strong, they are also very easy to exploit. |

I think your friend is arguing on semantics... if it says you should ask permission, it obviously means the list is unofficial. It also says the lists are not playtested and potentially unbalanced. |
