Beastmen vs Skaven. I fielded Cheftain w. BoP, Battle Standard with Banner of Burning hatred, Warlock engineer w. storm daemon, 30 clanrats, 25 slaves, 2 rat swarms, 12 night runners, ratling gun, warp-lightning cannon, 5 Jezzails. He fielded a Shaggoth (surprise surprise), a shaman, 15 gors/5 ungors with additional hand weapons, 15 gors/5 ungors with Hw/Shields, tuskgor charriot, 8 hounds. Game 1 - There isnt much to say here... Everything went wrong, right from the start. In turn 2, his chariot smashed into my night runners, they fled 12". Guess what he rolled??? I sent my rat swarms into the chariot where they fought each other for the rest of the game. My clanrats did manage to route and destroy the beastherd accompanying the shaman, but that left them in combat with the shaggoth. In the meantime, my Ratling gun blew up after 2 consecutive misfires (each on roll 2) and my Warlock engineer killed himself with warplightning rolling 1's. My Slaves were absolutely thrashed and ran down by the other gor regiment. My Jezzails and WLC both proved to be completely useless. No more than 1 Jezzail hit each turn!!! and my WLC's range was so small it was useless, and when it did roll a high distance it was S2! It killed no more than 2 beastmen in the entire game! In the main combat my cheftain with BoP, accompanied with Banner of Burning Hatred, managed to inflict 4 wounds on the Shaggoth!!!!!!!! I was almost confident, then the shagoth cut him in two, and in the next 2 rounds, beat the Clanrats and chased them down. At this stage, the game ended. I had 1 badly hurt rat swarm, 5 Jezzails and WLC. He still had a shaggoth, a beastherd, a chariot. In the next turn my forces would have been charged and then thrashed easily. I was massacred. and the damned shaggoth survived... After I was massacred in a game of 40k, with my XCrimson Fists nuked by an Imperial Guard army, we decided to have a rematch of the fantasy game, with the same forces. This one definately went better, but it was still only a draw. I destroyed the Chariot by turn 2 with my Jezzails (they actually hit!) and reduced a beastherd to practically nothing with my Warlock engineer. I was feeling very confident, I must admit, when the hounds died also to my clanrats and his army was left shattered. Then came the inevitable bad luck. Ratling gun jammed when it had a clear shot at destroying the shaggoth, engineer wounded himself yet again, WLC kept missing and Slaves were destroyed by other beastherd, along with ratswarms. It all came down to the amin fight. I lost. My cheftain died along with my clanrat unit, leaving him with a wounded shaggoth still alive. He proceeded to charge my night runners who fled. right off the field. I then cut swathes through the beastmen with ratling, WLC and Jezzails. My engineer died to a beastman spell. I then fired my Ratling gun at the shaggoth, and praise be to the horned rat! It died!then the game ended. Both forces were massacred. I only had ratling gun, WLC and Jezzails and he had a small number of gors and a shaman. We called it a draw, as points between the forces were so small. So, theres how NOT to beat a shaggoth. I dont think I could have done any better, being cursed with bad luck. but twas fun to play with, and earned valuable experience on how to play with skaven... |

the only things i would change would be to have swapped the ratling gun for the WFT. the d3 wounds thing really helps in taking down monsters. The jezzails would have been uless because against beast herds they never would have hit on more than a 5+ and the unit was kinda small. I think that the jezzail points could have been used elswhere to greater effect. But congrats on taking down the shaggoth,

thanks! I was using the Jezzails to hopefully wound (if not kill) the Shaggoth, but sadly their line of sight was blocked for most of the game!!! I probably would replace them as they only wounded the shaggoth once and routed the hounds in one game... I might need to invest in more clanrats or stormvermin accompanied by WFT... |

How could LoS be blocked, he's a large target, which means you can see him no matter what terrains in the way(unless its weird terrain), but for taking down that, use 10 jezzails, I would have used the WLC, it killed a bloodthirster.... |

Aww.. shame-shame! Next time, use the units you choose to do a certain job, to execute that job too. The rat swarms shouldn't have charged that chariot I think, but always the Shaggoth. And a WLC can be very devastating.. but it can also do nothing. That's why it's only 100 Pts. About a WE killing himself; that's why I give him Warpstone Charm and Storm Deamon; builds in reliability and is very versatile. Huh.. a large target... I don't get it Anyway.. better luck next time! |

Well, around here hils and forests block LOS to large targets. Things like this should be discussed pre-game if you're playing someone new. I must have a case of the stupids. I can't find the relevant section the BRB. |

I couldnt have taken down the Shaggoth with the WLC because lightning only angers dragon ogres and shaggoths... I never thought of using warpstone charm to override warlock killing himself... I was saving it to keep Storm Daemon going... no use if he is dead... whoops... |

oh, and I charged the chariot with swarms because after chasing down my Night Runners, it had a clear rear charge of my main unit of clanrats containing 2 characters... |

thats what I mean by weird, before starting, you should go over what terrain can block what so your opponent can't claim terrain can protect his models, but then can't protect yours...... |

Well, although you would have lost a few models to the chariot, it is doubtful that it would have caused enough wounds to break the unit. |

The chariot killed 5 out of 12 Night Runners, so it broke them quite easily really... |

It was a lot of kills! and then successfully chasing them down after needing double 6's!!! quite irritating, but very skavenlike... |
