Hey there. I'm thinking of getting a plague monk unit. I'm going to the gaming store ina week or two and I have about $30. Should I get 3 Packs of them and just build up from there? Also, how many Plague Monks do u need to have a successful unit? Would ten be good and then i would keep adding more as I get them? Also, is full command a good idea in a plague monk unit? Thanx for the help in advance!

you could field 10-15 but only as a support unit. 16-20 is generally recommended, and some field 'em as big as 25. a few like 30 but that seems like way too many to me.

I think that you should never field them in less than 24.Allways have F/C and put a plague priest there

and while you are here, ask energize if I can come back on Warhammerworld.

Thanx guys. I hope to end up with a pretty good size unit but i'm going to build it slowly since they r no doubt one of the most expensive units to build. Some people
I know say to wait for the plastic ones but that is too far away so i might as well start now. Thanx again. Any other comments r welcome.

I'd say between the 20 and 30. Most optimal choice, BUT ALWAYS 2 HANDWEAPONS!!!

i personally field a unit of 24 + a plague priest in every game. If you wanted to keep your bamk account open though, i would just get a small unit of 15 and use them as a support unit.

I would have to agree on the 25 mark.... they are going to be a heavy target for spells and shooting... you want three ranks to make it across the field. And by having them , you can field Plague censor bearers, which are always sweet....

You could get by with 20, but better cover them with some slaves as a screen, not to mention that will protect your auto-charge with frenzy rule .....

if used as a "stand alone unit" i would not consider fielding them in units below 25 man strong, with no armour they will not make it across the field with enough ranks to be effective.

my PM's usually get pounded to at least half str by the time they reach the enemy lines (talking about dwarf artillery army) but then you toss the good old 'walking combat res' slaves into the enemy unit alone with the 10ish remaining PM's for +4 combat res (outnumber NOW with slaves +3 ranks) and whatever damage your PM's do, works quite well especially with a depelted unit of PM's that's down to barely 1 rank :ph43r:

I'd have to say 20-30... w/full comand and Plague Priest -IF you are running one.

They're hella-expensive and I plan on awaiting the plastics... I use Dark Elf spearmen (only extra figs I've got) for proxy-monks.

ALWAYS take 2 hand weapons and take Umbanner.
When you think everything is going your way- some little snot-nosed brat gets in the way and ruins your day. This little punk does something so simple that completely destroys any chance of you having a good year. This SoB didn't even know that their actions would have such an abysmal impact upon your life. Geez, some people are so insensitive.

Now I have to get my car repaired.

I always take a unit of 35 + Plague Priest (or lord in a full pestilens army)

All the blocks of infantry on my main line must be at least 36 strong and the monks are no exception. Its worked well so far...its fun to be able to just walk towards bolt throwers without paying them any attention.

When I decided to fight a friend's all-skryre army with my all-pestilens version this unit ended up hitting an equally large unit of stormvermin with shields.

gah...what a bloody mess, the crops were fertile that year.

all i can say to u pal is it depends on the type of army that u want to field, type of enemy and how many points you are playing Dev

People can say play 25+ but if u are playing a i.e. 1,500pts then that unit will take up alot of your points <_<

Also if you are playing elves you need as many as possible :D

And if you want a defensive/ shooting army then you will want to concentrate on other units :)
