Hello everyone. I just thought i might share the results of my little probibilty frenzy last night.

Ratling Gun

# of dice Theroedical Hit (without misfires) Misfire %

1_______________3.5________________________ 0
2 ______________ 7 ________________________16.6
3 _____________10.5 _______________________30.5
4 _____________ 14_________________________72.2

Number of wounds chart (Theoredical Average)

# of dice________T3 4+ unit___T4 4+ unit____T3 none____T3 1+ armor save
(without misfire)

1_________________1.94_______1.45_________2.31_______.76
2_________________3.88_______2.9__________4.62_______1.16
3_________________5.81_______4.35_________6.93_______1.74
4 ________________7.67_______ 5.8__________9.24_______3.04

Notes on using- Best used against smaller units, will rarely break a 20 strong unit of chaos warriors. Also excellent for attacking skirmishers as they usually wear little armor and the ratling gun doesn't need BS to hit. The relibilty of this wepon must be qestioned, particularily if the player roll 4 dice often.

I can see a few mistakes in the numbers.
3rd dice = 33%
4th dice = 50%
Also id put chaos knights T4 2+sv in there.

Hmm... never use mathematics in the ratling gun. But believe me, a whooping 13 shots (how funny) can indeed shoot a big unit of Chaos Warriors to pulp.

if they're chosen, you'll only average about 3 kills (13 hits, wound on 4, save on 5).

For the 4th dice, it would be 72%. Trust me i made a 8 page long tree chart. It's 72%

Ok, yes the ratling gun can pulp Chaos Warriors, but it will not happen 50% of the time you shoot the gun.

tough 4 okay... but save on 5+? Chosen chaos warriors have a 4+ save, so that would be 6+ after modifiers... Might not be that hard (and yes, my dice-rolls were lucky that moment  )

It would be 72% if you rolled all dice at once. But you only roll the fourth dice if the previous three didn't include any doubles. (ie didn't misfire) Therefore the chance of scoring a misfire when rolling the fourth dice is a flat 50%. (There are three numbers out of six that will result in a misfire)

They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"

sounds more like my warpfire thrower...

Shiva,
did you also looked at 'luck' as in the practicing of rolling dice?

my ratling gun fired upon my brothers empire swordsman unit cauzing 6 wounds, then they failed their leadership test (within range of their Ld 8 captain) and scored a 12" on the flee run... after not rallying again on his second turn, off the board they went sprinting for their lives...he was not happy

(he cheered up a bit when in a vote of good sportsmanship i purposly made it explode)

in my experience, the ratling gun is extremely effective

yeh

dont think im taking a stab at u shiva, but i absolutely hate it when my opponent starts calculating the probability of something happening

i think the ratling gun was designed to make the games more interesting
i mean half my games would be pretty standard if it wasnt for the ratling gun wiping out a unit or blowing up in a dazzling display of warpstoney wonder

i kill myself laughing when my ratling gun (or any unit) does something stupid
the games supposed to be fun...dont ruin it by turning it into skool

Ohhh, i see.

I was thinking that it would misfire 72% of the dice if you rolled them all at once. Yes it would be 50% on just the 4th dice.

My bad

ratling guns are not made to be calculated but to be fired/misfired.
the misfire where the team fires in random is btw the funiest thing my army can do. I once shot my own general with a ratling gun misfire which sent neraly all of my troops(including the ratling gun) fleeing off the table. I lost that game, but it was deffinately the one where I had to laugh the most.
