Ubuntu, The most popular Linux Distro is releasing their new 9.10 release, the Karmic Koala this Thursday Morning. New features in the OS include: -GRUB 2 bootloader, faster boots and shutdowns. -EXT4 File system now default -New Login screen (same one as on Fedora) -Updated look for windows and the docks -Messenger status now integrated into power button -IM and Mail alerts are now on a single button. -Empathy IM replaces Pigeon -Latest releases of OpenOffice, Firefox, and GNOME/KDE and it's programs -Ubuntu Software Center (A iPhone like app store, but all free software) replaces Add/Remove Programs, in 10.04 it will replace Update Manager and Symantic package Manager. A) Its funny how you read my mind on the Windows 7 topic. Does this mean Pidgin will be removed entirely, because I like pidgin. Or will it be no longer the default.

Empahy replaces Pidgin in ALL new GNOME installs across the distros because of how the new app integrates into the new messaging notifier and status updater in GNOME. You should still be able to find Pedgin on the Karmic repository. |
