Have hope in tomorrow!

I was reading the news this morning, and I just discovered that USA president Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize! You can read more about it here. Now, considering where I lie on the political spectrum (and where I lie on how things should work in the world), I am thrilled that somebody like Obama won this prize. The only thing I question is that he just recently started his huge job as USA president, so there's not a lengthy track record to base him receiving the prize off of. What does everyone else think of this?

A bit much considering he only just become the President of America, they shoud have at least given it a term to see how he is, rather then after a few months. However congratulations to him, he does seem better then the lunetic that America had previous. |

Christmastime is here!

I agree with MPF, they should have waited to see if he was a proven leader before they gave him the reward. Right now he has been having problems getting of his agenda passed and for the stuff that is passed we don't know if it will actually make him a proven leader. If he was a proven leader and was already in his 2nd term, it probably would have been more accepted. The AP said he is not going to keep the money for the reward though, it will go to charity. |

In my opinion, Obama didn't deserve it. At least, not with his track record so far, like you guys stated. Maybe someday he'll do something that's deserving of this prize, but in my opinion, he hasn't yet. I'm a bit frustrated with the people who made this decision for jumping the gun and giving the prize to someone who's promised quite a lot but hasn't even gotten the chance to attempt to realize a lot of these goals. |

So what did he do to get that prize? I just heard about it on GNW and Paul didn't say what he got it for. I think that might have been because both teams cut him off and were wondering the same thing and coming up with their own reasons why he got it. Edited by Galener, Oct 12 2009, 12:21 PM.

politics aside. i may be a bush loving republican, but that all aside...Obama didnt do a thing whether i agreed with it or not to win a nobel peace prize...he hasnt saved any lives, he hasnt delt with any disaster of any scale...he hasnt even done anything about our economy or healthcare that didnt have everyone cry, besides...even on a larger scale...what HAS he really done that affected the entire world in a positive way besides give people "hope"...really...and thats just a fair and balanced way of putting it. if you want my POLITICAL opinion however...i think hes a hack anyway...granted...he did everything he said he would, i just didnt agree with it anyway...Bush would have been a more worthy winner in my opinion...at least he was there in disaster, and attempted to change the world

Honestly I don't know what he got that prize for, but I wish good luck to him proving he really deserved it. Good luck to him, he's definitely better than the previous president. No Nobel prizes awarded to Poland this year. Oh well. Let's see about next one.

I think the move was subtly political. It may have been encouragement to Obama to get out of the middle east. There's also the Sys-admin analogy: When you get a guy who's generally trying to fix things after eight years of a guy whose right hand didn't know what his other right hand was doing, even minor improvements are a breath of fresh air. I might be an unabashed liberal, but I still admit that Obama hasn't done too much to merit the peace prize yet. He may have granted funding for Stem Cell research again, and illegalized the gifting of trips by lobbyists to congress, but that's all he's really done. There are his speeches, yeah, but until we get results, we can't count them. Still, I love that it annoys the conservatives. They might say the prize has had no meaning since Carter (I think he's the one) got it, but they're really easy to stir into a frenzy. I hope that wasn't too political. :B |
