Welcome to The TV Shelter.

We are sorry to say that as of the 8th April 2014, The TV Shelter will no longer be open to new posts, threads or members. Like that famous Monty Python sketch, this forum has joined the choir invisible.

However this will continue to remain as an archive so that visitors can mindlessly plunder through old threads to look at PIFs, TV listings and other miscellanea that made this place truly unique.

And if you still can't get your fix of TV nostalgia visit Facebook's TV Heaven or even TV Ark, the website that spawned the original forums.

And finally a long standing has made a successor to the TV Shelter, which to a few is reminiscent of when an ITV franchise would change to another. The forum is called The TV Lounge and should keep the spirit running that it's predecessors carried.

We hope you enjoy your visit.

I've been looking on TV Forum and Charlie Wells says UKTV Bright Ideas is closing:

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but continuity on Bright Ideas has confirmed that the channel will be shutting down on 14th October.

Well if it does close it will be no big loss as it was basically the same as UKTV Style/Food/Gardens anyway. That is a coincidence it launched the same day as ftn and it is closing the same year but different days.

I agree.

I know it was meant as a home for UKTV's original lifestyle programmes, but I felt it was channel overkill, what with UKTV Style and UKTV (Style) Gardens also showing the same kind of programmes.

Now if only they could sort out UK Gold and turn it back into a proper classic series channel...

Unlikely to happen, I think. :(

wasted opportunity, it was virtually a retread of UKStyle. it will never be missed and it was only operating for four years and a bit

The thing I dont understand with UKTV Gold is that they are not commissioning programmes they are supose to, They have new programmes from america never shown in the UK before, they also have movies from america too but it is called UK TV Gold Which sugests that it is programmes from the UK (UK) it shows TV programmes (TV) and they are classic programmes (Gold)

So it shouldn't be called UKTV Gold then. :P I know what you mean about the yankee imports, they might as well call themselves USTV Gold which they already had before.

I've had the feeling that UK Gold and UKTV G2 are slowly declining in a way. There's that New Adventures of Old Christine thta I've never watched and they're filling their late nights with old movies. IIRC both channels are owned by Flextech but back then Thames used to co-own it and some of it's offerings would appear there.

The future for UK Gold is unclear but UKTV G2 becoming Dave, well... I sometimes watch Top Gear, Red Dwarf and Big Train on there.

i agree, the damage has been allowed to happen on UKGold

the channel in my opinion would look better if a revamp ensured a more mainstream, retrospective feel but also never afraid to show newer (probably more deserving) programmes like the recent Doctor Who series, Murphy's Law, Casualty episodes and The Bill just to please everyone generally (i know some will disagree)

but the channel SHOULD never be allowed to show American sitcoms/soaps (we see enough already) or any American films, but general home-grown material
