Welcome to The TV Shelter.

We are sorry to say that as of the 8th April 2014, The TV Shelter will no longer be open to new posts, threads or members. Like that famous Monty Python sketch, this forum has joined the choir invisible.

However this will continue to remain as an archive so that visitors can mindlessly plunder through old threads to look at PIFs, TV listings and other miscellanea that made this place truly unique.

And if you still can't get your fix of TV nostalgia visit Facebook's TV Heaven or even TV Ark, the website that spawned the original forums.

And finally a long standing has made a successor to the TV Shelter, which to a few is reminiscent of when an ITV franchise would change to another. The forum is called The TV Lounge and should keep the spirit running that it's predecessors carried.

We hope you enjoy your visit.

What TV shows do you dislike? Mine would have to be:

The Jeremy Kyle Show (He is always shouting)
Big Brother and any other reality programme (Ruined British TV) plus rumour has it that there is a Celebrity version next year despite of what happened on this years.
Little Britain and any present day comedy (Not Funny)
Baby Ballroom (What are ITV thinking  )
X Factor (A winner having Christmas number 1 two years running takes a biscuit)
Any ITV show that is a rip off of another show on another channel (e.g Tycoon a poor man's Apprentice)

Any reality show involving dancing i.e DanceX, Strictly Come Dancing and, the worst and most dubious of the lot: Paedo, sorry, Baby Ballroom. That was creepy.

All the soaps - the quality in them has really diluted and they are on far too much

Late night phone-in quizzes (except Quizmania)

All the trashy celebrity documentaries and reality series on TMF - the station is called The MUSIC Factory - ditto with MTV and VH1, not even shadows of what they used to be

Agree with Gareth and Marcus about the never-ending dance and talent shows... and also most modern comedy, especially when it's repeated constantly (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps on BBC THREE, Friends on E4 - enough is enough!)

the long continous run of flop chat shows (Richard Hammond's 5 O'Clock Show, Sharon Osbourne, Paul O'Grady)

......and the worst of them all, Jeremy Kyle! (i've said what the problem is on another post)

BB (axe it now, this year's celebrity show's controversy should had finished it off, it didn't, DAMN!)

Sing it back (did anyone see this staged and pathetic game show where the contestants would be hyped up if they knew the lyrics and went through. none of them were any good and most struggled to get the correct lyrics. a good example of dumbing down attidues and a waste of time)

Any Dream will do (i only ever saw bits, but Lloyd-Webber was surely getting a fortune for sitting in the King's chair whilst getting the Phathom of the Opera theme thumping down when Norton took the time to notice him at the beginning of each episode, minus the final. the singing was dreadful and especially up here they were making a fuss on ForthOne encouraging Scotland's major cities to back Keith who obviously worked at the local Tesco in Dalkeith-but they never mentioned that!)

DanceX (time filler until Robin Hood comes back, heard it's coming to the end of it's course, hoorah!)

The People's Quiz (from the National Lottery, did anyone see this terrible, staged and fixed game show where on many occassions, one of the judges Klass refused to allow near-correct answers as well as being downright rude and flirty. they even refused to accept a correct pronounction of an answer from a Newport contestant in the final and how all these weeks-a women unfairly won because of PC)

Most of the ITV shows I greatley dislike are mainly the afternoon short lived chat shows and the rip offs. Big Brother I must say is getting even worse and worse over the years (no sh*t), including the X Factor I've steered well clear of it.

As you've got the X Factor now on topic here's an interesting story I've seen in my local paper.

A 79 year old who had auditioned on the show has launched a complaint stating that it shoves the auditionees into a concentration camp and Simon Cowell takes a similar role to Hitler.

Here is the main story.

you got that right, the new adventures of old Christine is very crude and no start titles either (expect in the form of a still), in fact, they have started showing it at 8.00 pm every Friday night!

oh, i couldn't have gotten those soaps, especially Emmerdale (i love that Zak Dingle!)

those titles for Hollyoaks are now very sexually explict, i was astounded they could get away with it. load of absolute bleep!

also the episodes never start properly, drowned down by an instance by pop music in one of it's newer formats.

(on a further point, Mersey TV have given up on it anyway, since they no longer make the show)

I thought the titles were meant to be a reference to homosexuality because of the number of sex symbol that abruptly pop up. Anyway it was said that Mersey Television changed their names to Lime Pictures as they got the name from a nearby street where the studios are located.

To be fair, I met Carly Stenson (Steph from Hollyoaks) at the opening of a local music shop and she's a nice girl

What Not to Wear - It was OK when presented by Trinny and Susannah, but Mica Paris and that other woman are terribly lacklustre. Get rid of them.

How to Look Good Naked - I refuse to take advice on looking good from a man who uses the word "minger" in all seriousness and resembles something out of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sorry an' all that.

Hollyoaks - Ghastly. Most of the cast are/were models rather than actors, and the whole thing is tremendously tawdry in a style not seen since the early days of Footballers' Wives. Recently, they've tried having some "grittier" storylines in an attempt to dispel the image that their cast are pretty faces who can't act. It hasn't worked.

Big Brother - Can't we put this to rest now? I'd be happier even if they went back to the original format of ten contestants and eight weeks.

Antony sodding Cotton and his chat show. Get him off the air, forever, and that includes Coronation Street. The man cannot act. He plays himself, like John Wayne did. The difference is that John Wayne made it look good.

Anything to do with people "dancing" and being voted off by telephone.

Ditto for casting West End shows by TV vote. It's all precast anyway and is terribly damaging to people who have spent their lives working in theatre. ITV have announced they won't do any more shows like this because Grease Is the Word got such bad ratings, but the BBC are enthusiastically planning another Lloyd - Webber spectacular next year, probably My Fair Lady.
