Welcome to The TV Shelter.

We are sorry to say that as of the 8th April 2014, The TV Shelter will no longer be open to new posts, threads or members. Like that famous Monty Python sketch, this forum has joined the choir invisible.

However this will continue to remain as an archive so that visitors can mindlessly plunder through old threads to look at PIFs, TV listings and other miscellanea that made this place truly unique.

And if you still can't get your fix of TV nostalgia visit Facebook's TV Heaven or even TV Ark, the website that spawned the original forums.

And finally a long standing has made a successor to the TV Shelter, which to a few is reminiscent of when an ITV franchise would change to another. The forum is called The TV Lounge and should keep the spirit running that it's predecessors carried.

We hope you enjoy your visit.

A real loss. A pioneer.

My thoughts are with his family.

I believe he was only 57.

A shame to hear that a pioneer in the world of both regional television and entertainment has sadly passed away.

RIP Tony. :(

I'm absolutely gutted to hear the news. He was a hero to me. It really is the end of an era. :(

RIP Tony.

Poor Tony looked very ill in his recent TV interviews but I was shocked by the news of his death this morning.

Sad news indeed. :(

Definately one of the Granada legends of the 1980s - where he presented Granada Reports, Flying Start and later Up Front and a host of other programmes, including latterly Granadas ITV50 programme. #
I think it would be fitting for them to do a tribute programme for Tony in one of the regional slots this week...

i'm sure even i've heard the name, but i have definitely heard of the bands he launched Joy Divison/New Order and Happy Mondays (who recently released a new song plus album, the first in 20 years)

and i've heard of the term Madchester. i had no idea it was him that gave Manchester it's voice as a trendy and vibrant city of nightclubs and bars (although personally i'm not fond of the place)

RIP Tony Wilson 1950-2007

This was a real shock for me. I could never fault him for his dedication to music and the Manchester music scene would have been a far poorer thing without his considerable input. It was a shame that Factory never made him any money but he will always be remembered as a one-off, a man who believed in his principles and never 'sold out'. RIP Tony.
