Intro to Music Theory

Music theory is basically the way or method with which that all other music is written. There are specific guidlines, but few, if not any of these limit your creativity. In fact, it'll take anything that you've written and made it sound better!

Anyway, first I'll start with Key Signatures.

There are two main ones that you have to memorize: C and F.

C has no sharps or flats.
F has one flat on the note B.

To determine a key signature with sharps, take the last sharp and go up one.

For example (Trebel Cleff):

#-------------------
_________________
--------------------
_#_______________
--------------------

--------------------
_________________
--------------------

is the key of D major. Take the last sharp, located on C, and go up one. That's a D note.

This rule applies for ANY key with sharps.

Anyway, that's it for this quick lesson.

Final Note: There is NO key with both sharps AND flats.
