He hated being on the ground, he really couldn't think of anything else more sickening to Captain James Avery than being stuck on the ground, until his C.O came up with a greater punishment for his little 'stunt' he did a couple weeks ago, taking a 'joy ride' in his plane, but it wasn't just him, he was with a lady. Trying to impress her, he said with a cheeky grin. So along with him being grounded, his C.O also ordered him to teach the incoming new pilots the ropes on flighting. He argued that in order to do that, he'd have to be in the air, but he just smiled and said to figure it out.

So he was stuck in his worse nightmare, sitting in a plane hanger just yards away from his baby and he couldn't fly her, and not only that, but sitting at a table with a bunch of chairs in front of him to be filled with new young pilots. Just like the day before that and the day before that. He was in hell, that was the only way to best describe it, force to live out the rest of his punishment, day after day doing the same thing and on the *ground*. He was going to go mad he just knew it, if he didn't get up in the air soon, he was gonna crack and his nerves were the first thing to go. He could already feel his hands starting to shake as he reached up with his lighter to light his cigarette. He took a long drag on it and sighed, blowing the smoke out his mouth in the process. "Fan-fucking-tastic," he said quietly to himself as the pilots started to come in and sit in the chairs, just like the day before.

<<Enter Mack From Solo Mission>>

*Mack's fighter taxied to a halt into it's parking space in the hanger and Mack climbed out. He payed the taxi operator a dime for good luck and walked across the deck. He looked over to his left and saw the nuggets. He could tell they were nuggets due to the tell tale paper badges pinned to their shoulders. Mack was surprised to see himself looking down on them. Not to long ago he was a nugget to. In fact, he still was technically. He had done one combat mission sure, but against easy stationary targets. Still, that earned him the right to take the nugget badge off and stand tall with his fellow pilots. Then he recognized the pilot standing in front of the pilots. James Avery, one of the best pilots in the fleet. Mack decided to check this out. He walked over to the seats, flipped on backwards and sat down on it.*

When all the little wanna be pilots sat down, they all just sat and stared at him. He couldn't hold it off any longer. He sighed deeply, blowing smoke out his mouth in the process and stood up, glancing around at the newbies from behind his avaitor sunglasses. It was better just to get this over with then just to let this lag on any farther. He slowly slipped off his sunglasses and folded them down on his jacket, hearing the clinking sound from hitting his wings, pinned to the front of his jacket. He slowly paced in front of the newbies. The future didn't look too promising from his point of view. They all didn't look over ninteen, except one in the back that he knew he had seen before, he looked about 20-25 it was kinda hard to tell, since Jimmy wasn't exactly sobber.
"Alright," He yelled, the cigarette still bobbing in the corner of his mouth while he talked, "You see what I got here?" He asked, grabbing his wings on the front of his jacket and pulling them off, holding it up to them to see, "I got over fifteen years of flying in my hand right now, I've been through any kind battle you could think of, so don't be thinking that you're gonna show me off with what you know because I know what you know and you don't know shit about up there," he nodded upwards, signaling the sky. He pinned his wings back on his jacket and sat down on the table behind him, "You see that beautiful baby over there?" He pointed to his plane, sitting a couple yards away. Number 17, "Captain James 'Zodiac' Avery" across the side of it near the cockpit.
"Been flying her for a good amount of those fifteen years. In fact I'd be up in her right now if it wasn't for the C.O's tight grasp on me."

*Mack hadn't noticed at first, but Captain Avery wasn't looking to good. He looked a little shaky, probably what some of the pilots called land sickness. Mack was going through a version of that himself, only this he'd call sun sickness. After several days in space, you get used to there not being any sunlight and your days are lit by perpetual soft glow light bulbs. Now that Mack was on the ground with the sun overhead he felt like he had pulled an all nighter, even though this "Night" had been two weeks worth of time. Mack looked over at Captain Avery's jet. It had the pits and scores of many a combat mission all over it. Mack turned back to listen to Captain Avery rant about his CO.*

After a couple moments of talking, the Captain stopped and looked around before looking at his watch. Only a couple minutes had gone by, he had to keep this going for another hour. Jimmy took a long drag on his cigarette, blowing the smoke out his nose before he started talking again, letting his eyes scan the newbies in front of him, "Yea so uh," he began, but didn't go anywhere with it, still trying to figure out where to go and what to do, when he noticed his hands were shaking a bit more. He just gripped them tight and folded his arms in front of his chest, scooting a little farther back on the table, "It won't matter how much you know or how many A's you've got in the academy once you're up there, you're depending on your nerves and your ability to see the outcome to a situtation with each choice you've got," he found his train of thought of where he was going and it quickly picked up, "I've seen too many "Aces" out there, thinking they're hot-shit until they get blow outta the sky because they were cocky." He stared down the newbies in front of him, "Do *not* be cocky, only someone with my experience can."

*Mack was a little disappointed. here was one of the best pilots in the fleet, the great Zodiac, and he was floundering for words in front of a bunch of nuggets. Granted, the man was a pilot, not a public speaker but he just got this image of the great pilots being these supremely confident guys who were never at a loss for anything, including words. Mack listened to Captain Avery talk about being cocky and stupid and inside he just felt like this whole thing was a waste of time. This was the kind of speech a wingman or squadron leader gave, not a teacher. Mack leaned over to the nugget sitting next to him and whispered.*

"Talk about tight ass CO."

*The nuggets smiled and let out a little chuckle under his breath. Mack got up and walked back over to his bird, signaling one of the hanger mechanics to come over.*

Casually Jacob walked into the hanger with his hands in his pockets nodding at some of the pilots in a way that said hello as he headed towards his gundam suit to work on the scope's configuration which was shooting a little off the the right last time he was at targeting practice. He looked over at James who was talkin about the usual rookies gettin shot down. "James, you still sulkin over being grounded?" He smiled as he went over to a cart and started gather in the tools to work on his suit.

"Use your fuckin' mind, Moore, what do you think?" Jimmy snapped as Moore walked by, grinning like an idiot at him. But he knew Moore wouldn't take it personal, he knew Jimmy was more made at the idea of being grounded, than him bring it up. Moore and Avery were in flight school together, he went suits and Jimmy went towards planes. Moore knew him when he was in his better days, when he worked hard going up the ranks until he got to Captain, same as Moore, then he just seemed to stop caring. No one really knew why, but he did, stopped listening to authority, etc. He turned towards the little pilots in front of him, "Well kiddies, meet Captain Jacob Moore, you'll probably see him trying to woo some of your girlfriends if you bring them, so watch'em close or you just might loose'em," he annouced loudly, tossing his finished cigarette down on the ground in front of him, "He also cares more about his suit than he does his own friends and family.... then again, I guess you could say the same about me too."

Jacob smirked at James and commented back, "Hey it ain't my fault if they find me attractive." He put down his work after the comment about spendin so much time on his suit, "Hey man if you don't take care of the equiptment then it won't take care of you. Ya know? Besides I heard that they're starting to crackdown on unnessicary wear and tear on the machines." With a smirk he knowing asked James, "Gee James, isn't that way you're grounded?"

Jimmy just grumbled a bit when he mentioned that his joy riding was the reason he was grounded. He was probably grounded more times than any other pilot in his fleet, yet they didn't take his wings away. He knew the CO knew him better than any other commanding officer and that if they took his wings away, he'd have nothing and probably end up being a nerve shot trick pilot that worked on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere taking people up in barrel rolls for 30 bucks a pop. That was one of his worse fears, he didn't want that to happen and would do anything to keep that from happening. "Yea well, she enjoyed the ride from where I was sitting," he finally said with a smirk, looking over the newbies, "of course you couldn't fit two in that thing, even if you tried," he finished nodding over towards the suit Moore was working on.

"Yeah well I guess it's for the best then. The last thing I want to do is die cause of some broad in the front seat." He took his tools onto the scissor lift and started to open the panel for the sights of the mobile suit's gun. He tweaked with the computer system for a few minutes to do the minor adjustment.

"Depends on what she's doing, Jake," Jimmy chuckled towards him, working on his suit and then eyes fell upon the newbies again, looking pretty confused and looking at each other. His smile quickly melted away into a look of annoynce and bordum like before Moore showed up, "Yea as you can see, there isn't much 'stuff' in-between planes and suits, it's pretty much who pissed each other off. No rival shit, that's frowned upon here so leave that shit at the door. I got plenty of pilots I hate, all of which fly both planes and suits, I see you starting crap with anyone, trying to provoke a fight, I *will* kick your ass and believe me, I will before you get any say in the matter, if you know what I mean..." he slowly trailed off, looking around and then at his watch. Only 20 minutes had gone by, "Oh sweet fuckin' jesus, what more do you guys want from me?" He sighed, looking them over.

*Mack chuckled to himself as the two pilots argued back and forth to each other. Nothing like the rivalry between fighter and suit pilots. Mack crawled under the fighter and worked on adjusting the hydrolics of the port landing skid. The mechanic had gone to his CO to fill in the request for Mack's upgrades. Mack was going to turn his deadly looking fighter into a truly deadly machine. Mack climbed up into the cockpit and taxied out to the launch catapult, from which he launched into the sky.*

Jacob finished the adjustments and had sealed up the gun's casing. He lowered the scissor life to the ground and put the tools away. He smiled as he cleaned his hands off with a rag and came up to Jimmy and handed him the rag while giving him a pat on the back. "Oh I forgot to tell ya, I'll be going in space. Have fun on Earth buddy." As he walked out the hanger he hollered out to the new people, "Oh and if any of you actally want to see action. Make sure you'll be allowed to fly unlike Capt. Avery."

Avery just resisted yelling back at Moore when he went off on one the missions he actually shot down, not liking space. He just shook his head and gave a deep sigh, "Captain Moore kisses a lot of asses so....he gets to flight out a lot..." he tried to argue, but seeing it not go anywhere, he just let it trail off and sat there in silence for a couple moments, thinking about his next mindless thought when he heard the comm on his belt start to ring. He just sighed, picking it up off the belt and held it up to his ear.
"Zodiac here," he sighed into it.
"Hey Avery, get suited up, remember that mission in space you didn't want, the C.O to it is requesting you, so get the hell up there as soon as you can."
"Not space, come on, man, anything but space," Jimmy sighed heavily.
"Hey it's either that or being grounded, your choice, buddy."
He hung up the comm and stuck it back on his belt, thinking for a minute. Well it would be better than being stuck on the ground. With that, he quickly leapped off the table and without a word, walked out of the hanger.
