Clint: he is behind a large, criminal organization that has organized with a single purpose: open rebellion against Ouranos in order to win access to the forbidden lands. Clint openly questions why tax money is being put into a military force that exists only to fight the "threat" posed by monsters from the forbidden lands. He and his organization feel that they have a right to travel as they please, and they are willing to fight Ouranos directly in order to win that right. They believe that anyone who lives under Ouranos's rule has no real freedom because of this law, no matter how fair other laws might be. They believe that Ouranos is keeping them from finding some secret power in the forbidden lands that could challenge Ouranos; Clint openly states that he is interested in acquiring that kind of power, and that everyone should have a right to at least try to find it. The state considers Clint's organization a rebellion and acts against them in the harshest manner, forcing Clint and his people to be as secretive as possible. When Nieve first arrives on the scene, she helps Nex and the others get out a situation that they cannot escape. She tells them that they have gotten too deep into a conflict that the government and the crime syndicates do not want the public to know exists (the revolution against the government). Nieve has not declared any allegiances so far. She has only returned from the forbidden lands a week ago, and is running from the government herself. She of course recognizes everyone and tries to recruit their help. Cleese, however, not only refuses, but probes Nieve about her beliefs. She admits that she is sympathetic to the revolutionaries. She doesn't feel that Ouranos has any right to rule them. Cleese, however, argues that there is no government without Ouranos. He tries to talk about the good Ouranos has done, how Ouranos has given order to chaos and built the foundation for a fair and prosperous civilization, if people will only help him, as he cannot make it fair and prosperous by himself. Nieve thinks that this world is fundamentally unfair. Cleese argues that going against OUranos will only spread anarchy. He says that he has been fighting against this all his life, and that he'll continue fighting against it, even if that means fighting Nieve and Nex. This pushes Nieve to sympathize even more with the revolutionaries, and she declares that she will revolt against Ouranos in her own way. This signals the beginning of Cleese's fight against Nieve. |

What if...to keep the peace, Mizu had to publicly denounce Ena to avoid Ouranos's wrath? Ena just wants to help people, so if she could be convinced that the revolutionaries would do more harm then good, she would likely side with them. Ena's a bright young girl, but she's also naive in some ways: She wouldn't realize the political ramifications that a noble(Not sure what you call the daughter of the princess, heh) siding against the law would have. JD's thoughts: JD: That would be very interesting. It would definitely add some interesting conflict to their relationship. It could also be Mizu looking out for Ena. Maybe they understand each other well enough for Ena to recognize it as Mizu clearing the way for Ena to take her own path. It will be Mizu's way of giving Ena freedom, and it might be a very touching moment for her. |

Okay, so let's see what I've got. Kaze Rainex: Initially he was supposed to be a cowerdly Sekihan, wanting the nation to be a little less isolated. A royal bodyguard infused with the power of Sol. Now he's a ???, a trusted figure from the Mercenaries guild. His white hair and blue eyes are contacts and hair dye. His actual hair colour is ??? And he has ??? Eyes. (Assuming Anadal is a thing) Kaze is an Anadal, a being with Sight and Illusions. His preffered hair colour is white, and his eyes blue. His Sight is Danger. In the prologue, he came off as serious and effecient, with a deep regard for all life. While I'd like to keep that, I also wanted to show his other traits: he wants all the realms to all learn frpm each other and co-exist. Perhaps that's why he's with a guild. Naturally, he'll develop more as he's RP'd. Because I don't do static. Battle-wise he's still a dual-weilding magus. Perhaps his swords can channel the spells, for better flow? Kaze's Race and Lore: I say let me ease in and BAM, trying a new race, lore with it, and backgrounds! Don't expect Sekihan Quality, Z's had years. The Anadal: "Goddess of Illusion and Sight- Anadalmo. Once there was a fragment. A fragment of a god, in the shape of a goddess. Anadalmo. She took fancy to a man, but he was blind. The Goddess, in her infinite wisdom and compassion, restored his sight. But he had not just sight, but The Sight. He could see whatever he wished to. Emotions, the future, Strategy... Lo, he did look upon his Goddess and loved her. Anadalmo, satisfied, quickly grew pregnant. She gave birth, and as she did a new race were born. The Anadal, named after the Goddess. They had no defining features, but they did have The Sight, as their father. From The Sightful Mother, they gained Illusions. They could cloak whatever they needed however they wanted. Illusions and Sight. Let us be ever grateful to the Sightly Mother." -excerpt from The Book of Sight. Powers of the Anadal: "The Anadal? Yes, I know of them. Not much, but I do know. For instance, While it's true they can throw Illusions on themselves, They are never perfect. A finger, a strand of Hair, just whatever. Something always slips under the radar." "I also know they follow a Patriarchy. The current leader is Grand High Shifter Mikayel." "And what of their powers?" "Well, Most are familiar with the two main talents. Sight, and Illusions." "Care to elaborate?" "Well, they praise the sight. When they are at a cognitive level, they choose one thing to see. Some choose something obvious, like zooming sight, to microscopic levels. Others choose more... concepts, like futures and emotions." "And can they really see that?" "Some. Those who fail at their Sight are exiled. But I don't know anything more. They're very secretive about what happens after that." "And Illusions?" "Some focus on that. Some Illusions can be stronger than reality. Say an Anadal conjured up a brick wall. Well if you or I believed in that wall, or didn't think it was out of the ordinary... well, it would be a real wall. It's all in the mind." "So... do they actually shift shapes?" "If you don't know better, it can APPEAR as so. But it's all illusion. A snail illusion cannot actually go into snail shaped holes." "Anything else to add?" "They make adept mages, but they can be effective fighters as well." "One last question: how do you know this?" "Because... I have the Sight of Illusions." -interview with an Anadal. The realm of the Anadal: "Nothing special. Visitors are advised to be careful: you never know when one of them is hiding. Made it difficult to get my pay. There are a few fiends in the area. Nothing huge, but Behemoths and Nugs are rampant. Makes for great steak. The behemoths, that is. They have a few lakes, a lake of Seeing and a lake of Lusive. I'm not kidding, they named that! The population is in the hundred thousands. They do have an official Church, but nothing mandatory. They defer to Mikayel as their leader and head of church. It's 270,000 Miles long and wide. A perfect square. There's countless towns and villages, numbering in the lower thousands. The Capital is Ferina. It's home to the biggest church in the country, as well as the castle. They trade with just about everyone who can, their most valuable assets being the lumber and minerals they mine. Speaking of, they have a connected bunch of them. Called them the Kiern mining tunnels or summat. You wanna know more, go there yourself." -excerpt from Moot Corona's Traveling Guide. "Grand High Shifter Mikayel. He is so called because he chose to see Faith. Having successfully Sought, he fell to his knees and wept. Overcome, he held a meeting. A passionate discussion followed, and he was unanimously elected. He set into his work, reforming the church and how it worked. Below him, there are four High Justicars. Ariana, Terra, Carson, and Pryce. Below each of them there are ten popes, for a total of fourty. Each of THEM has four bishops. The bishops run the churches, the Popes the counties, the High Justicars the states, and Mikayel the Country. The churched praise The Sightly Mother, Anadalmo. Each book has exploits of various Grand Sights, that is, people granted such sights they changed the country. Each book ends with the Reform of Mikayel. After Mikayel passes away into the Mother's Sight, one of the four High Justicars, or someone with a similar sight as his, will take the throne and responsibilities. The churchgoers attend once a week, from the dawn until midnight. Churchgoing is nit mandatory." -excerpt from The Weekly News, Church edition. As I said, this'll take work. Suggestions are welcome, and prolly needed. Vergel Merzarick: The basic idea with him is to show the monster he became without Siema's guidance. His facade became a terrifiying reality, consuming him. But hey, no spirit problems! Newer characters: I could always pull out Carson and Hiro. Maybe Mikayel. Especcially if dhapeshifting is a thing. Maybe he's the leader even. Alternately, I just pop a new character from complete scratch. Or maybe one of them who exist only in a character sheet. Right now Kaze is enough to focus on as I peel of the rust, but suggestions and ideas are so appreciated. Might even jumpstart my own. (More to be added) Edited by Spitz, Jan 30 2015, 07:21:44 PM.

Okay, so plopping out a whole race and mythos out of the rust gate: not the best idea. Duly noted for possible future use in other things though. So, lets do this: expand his personality the one way I know how: Backstory. Maybe I can justify and all that like that. Kaze Rainex is fairly normal. Born to a normal family, he had normal dreams. As soon as he could, he enlisted in the annual guard, a volunteer group. During the war, he came across an idle little village. He took to the peaceful place immediately, championing the people. Unfortunately, when the opposing side came in they razed the village. Kaze did all he could to protect it, but was traumatized when one of the villagers, a girl he had gotten sweet for, was set aflame and immolated. Not wanting to lose anyone else, when the war ended he signed up for a mercenary guild, vowing to spread the peace he once witnessed. |

You neglected his backstory a lot by calling him "normal." What about personality? What is he like if left in a room for 30 minutes? If you had to compare him to a Fire Emblem character, who would he be like? What character type is he? Spell it out! Personality types, not classes. Why does he like peaceful villages? Why would anyone like him? What is there to like about him? If his parents had to brag about them to a friend, what would they say? Conversely, if they were ashamed of him, what weaknesses would they point out? Okay: why is he interested in military service? What did he do as a kid? What dreams did he have? Was he always a military brat? You've basically given him a backstory that says absolutely nothing about his personality. Here is how I read it: He's normal. No distinguishing traits up until military service. He found a peaceful village, DESERTED THE MILITARY (he has no values, no loyalty), loved peace, and loved the people. Then bad guys came and burned some girl he liked, so he was sad. He wanted to get strong, so he could make peace. Bland. Try again, please. |

Okay, backstory redux: Kaze was born to a normal family: Encouraging dad, worrying mother, single child. His first five years, nothing special happened. When he was five, a visiting troop arrived in his town. Most of the soldiers quartered up in the town inn, but one decided to ask for lodgings elsewhere, and wound up in Kaze's home. The boy was intimidated by the imposing soldier when he first turned up. Kaze tried to keep to himself, burying himself in a fairy tale book. The soldier noticed this, and thus asked him a simple question, one that set Kaze on his path: "Would you like to hear a different kind of heroic tale?" Kaze looked at him, thought a bit, and nodded. And so the soldier spoke, removing many gory or bad details to protect the kid's image. Kaze was awestruck, and quickly sucked in by the tales the soldier spoke of during his stay. As they left, the man gave him a token: a spare, empty pistol. Ever since then, Kaze modled his life after the stories he heard. Oh, it changed the boy so. He woke as the soldier told him, ate like the soldier told him, even played soldier with the friends he made. It was all he could ever talk about His mother so worried after him. His father, on the other hand, encouraged him, on his tenth birthday buying him a b.b pistol and teaching him how to properly use it. When he was seventeen, he finally got a chance, albeit a small one: A local milita was enlisting people for a few years worth of service. After that, any that signed up would be free to go as they pleased, though there were plenty of incentive to stay or branch out to the real military. Kaze couldn't stop himself from talking about it! Finally, through a serious discussion with his parents, he was free to do as he pleased. So he went. Unfortunately, the years he was there proved to Kaze that the soldier left... quite a fair bit of things out. In his time he saw how ugly war could get. This displeased him. Where were the heroics? Why were they more a political force than actual people? Why did they have to do such wrong things? Were was the right? Finally, in his last two months he came across an idealic little village. Hoping to influence a kid as he had been, the troop settled in for his last stint. He was asked to take up lodgings, and he did. But the discussion involved there was about the town's mayor. He listened intently, and got many differing viewpoints on the subject; few of them mentioned how to help the people. Enraged and feeling he could make a difference, Kaze took up the mantle of the people, making his voice known. Initially he was dismissed, but as the villagers backed him he was listened to. His views attracted many ladies, and he did have his eye on one in particular. He spent many nights with the woman, slowly opening up about himself. She was quite plain, but Kaze developed a love for her nonetheless, and proposed. At the end of his two months, he decided to stay with her. His former troop moved on, the captain swearing to put in a good word wherever he was headed. Kaze really had it all: a girl he was engaged to wed, the suppport of the people, and training and experience to protect them. The week before he was to wed, an opposing militia got wind of his location. Kaze was nobody, but they didn't care: the only thing that mattered was getting revenge. Kaze fought bravely as he could, but he was no match for them. As he took one foe down, a mage cast a fire pillar. Kaze was occupied, and his fiance was the only one that noticed, split seconds before it lit up, she pushed him out of the way and was, unfortunatley, immolated. Kaze was pushed and turned around right as he saw her perish. He had no time to react; she was gone. He screamed and killed the mage, stumbling out of his once home. Things got worse, of course. As he stumbled out, he discovered more mages had set fire to his town. He naturally went on a rampage, killing them all. Having nowhere to turn to and no desire to go back to being a political pawn, he traveled until he came to a mercenary guild. Having his militia experience, a traumatic experience, and a desire to make the world better HIS way, he signed on. Years of work later, he proved reliable and competent enoug to be given huge missions, such as protecting royalty. Such was how he came to meet Ena and Mizu, and began to truly start to his destiny. |

Looks good. The only amendment I have is that I'd rather have it that Kaze HAS NOT killed the mage that destroyed his life in the village. That will give him a long-term goal. It could be why he keeps writing letters to his fiance. He'll keep writing letters to her until he can find her killer. Kaze A 21 year old man of letters who believes in authority and straightforwardness. Seeks power to avoid repeats of personal tragedies. As a boy, Kaze emulated soldiers to the point of mimicking the way they walked and talked. Later, he would join a local militia and serve faithfully until his troop settled in an idyllic village, where he found his first love. The week before the marriage, his fiance was murdered by a black mage specializing in fire spells. Horrified by his inability to match the mage's power, Kaze joined the mercenary guild in order to hone his skills and gain the ability to one day carry out his revenge. Kaze has blunt political views, seeing clear class differences between "big" and "little" people, and clearly wants to be one of the "big" people, hence his emulation and respect for authority figures. A lifelong fan of fairy tales, he prefers his optimistic way of looking at people, and still tends to ignore injustices when they clash with his worldview. Has the worst sense of humor of the group. |

Marcus Livid A 25 year old captain in the mercenary guild and Kaze's direct superior. Marcus and Kaze have been serving together ever since Kaze joined his local militia. After witnessing the destruction of Kaze's village and the murder of Kaze's wife, Marcus vowed together with Kaze to take revenge on the fire mage who committed those crimes. Advancing in rank much faster than Kaze, Marcus became engrained in the secretive affairs of the Mercenary Guild, with Kaze serving as his right-hand man throughout. A man with dreams of becoming guild leader, Marcus works relentlessly towards his ambition. He came from a ruling class background but was denied it when his father's estate was seized during a border conflict between Dingard and Daetalus. Hates war for his own reasons. He is the source of Kaze's ideas about "big" and "little" people. A charismatic speaker who believes that war is ruining the dignity of the ruling class. Marcus's passions easily get the best of him at times, making Kaze the more reasonable of the two. He, like Kaze, prefers to see the positive side of his belief system and downplays the negative aspects of his classist beliefs. Assertive and outspoken, he has an excellent ability to understand organizational problems and create solutions. Intelligent, well-informed, and an excellent public speaker. Values knowledge and competence, and has little patience with those who disappoint him. The first one to blush at a dirty joke. Edited by JDWitchdoctor, Feb 6 2015, 11:10:07 AM.
