This is a topic dedicated to the named pilots and soldiers who show up in topics. Here is proof that they have backgrounds. Pilots of the Republic Name: Keith McDonald Age: 22 Rank: Second Lieutenant Post: Modern-class Airship Zanscare, Flight Leader Appearance: ![]() Background: Originally a Typhoon pilot in Dingard's Royal Air Force during its war with bordering country Reno, Keith McDonald is now an ace pilot for the Republic. Keith saw little activity as a pilot until after the breakup of the Daetalus Empire, after which he joined fellow Royal Air Force veterans in defecting to the budding Republic. With renewed loyalty to his country and its new Empress, the young Yalta, Keith became one of the first graduates of the Republic's top secret lancer pilot training center. His simulation results would impress Chancellor Siema Marie enough to entrust Keith on a mission to capture archmage Andrew Vastor. During this mission, Keith displayed incredible tenacity as a fighter, but also showed a streak of arrogance. His choice in strategy time after time resulted in questionable conduct, including instances of using civilians as hostages. Although Keith eventually saw his mission through, the loss of his captain, Donovan, in its final stages resulted in a stain on his reputation, one which the ambitious pilot is determined to exstinguish. Keith is generally rude and arrogant, very used to getting his way, but he has shown tact when necessary, and he genuinely believes in his country's ideals as written in the Republic's constitution. Although Keith has a kinder side, as a soldier he rarely gets the chance to express it, resulting in his hardened state. Keith's dream is to become an important figure in the Republic by ensuring its victory. Keith's record during the Reno war stood at 15 airship-to-airship dogfight kills, two below partner Emil R. Douglass, and an unconfirmed amount of bombing kills. Strengths/Weaknesses: As a pilot, Keith excels at hand-to-hand combat and has acceptable accuracy, but his true strength is his knack for avoiding oncoming enemy fire. More than anything, Keith is a difficult pilot to bring down, easily capable of numerous airborne maneuvers perfected during combat. Name: Emil R. Douglass Age: 31 Rank: First Lieutenant Post: Modern-class Airship Modern, Squad Leader Appearance: Background: Emil Douglass, the son of famous general Reinhardt Douglass, joined the military at a young age, as expected, but defied his father's hopes of seeing his son rise through the ranks by accepting only meager promotions. Emil preferred a role as a common soldier and finally as a pilot. He was Keith McDonald's mentor and partner during the Reno war and a standby pilot during the campaign against Clint, the leader of a rebellion against the Daetalus Empire. After the empire's collapse, Emil became a pilot for the Republic. He graduated top of his class at the top secret lancer pilot training center and went on to become flight leader of the airship tasked with capturing Andrew Vastor. On this mission, Emil regularly took advantage of his opponent's inexperience in pitched battle, putting extreme pressure on the archmage with cold, ruthless tactics aimed at simultaneously hurting Andrew's resolve and showing the willingness of the Republic to do battle against the Trade Empire. Emil's skill as a pilot during this mission, which ended in success, earned him a place as squad commander under the first flagship of the Republic Advance Fleet and namesake of the Modern-class airship line. Emil is a hard-boiled soldier who still bears considerable resentment against his father, who he considered an overbearing parent who tried to control every aspect of his son's life. Emil learned to live with common soldiers and understands common soldiers. He looks out for those serving under him and keeps a tight rein on them, sometimes leading him to regret how similar he has become to his stern father. Emil's personal life is a mystery, and he tends to keep his beliefs to himself, though he is quick to learn the beliefs of those serving under him. Emil's major goal in the war is to protect someone who is very dear to him, someone he would gladly give his life for. No one quite knows who this someone is, but Emil's thoughts seem to turn to her quite often... Strengths/Weaknesses: Emil is an incredibly aggressive pilot, known for daredevil maneuvers and pinpoint shooting. His major weakness is avoiding fire after a failed attack, though he somewhat compensates for this with his accuracy. Officers of the Republic Name: Linus Von Wolfgang Age: 42 Rank: Admiral Post: Modern-class Airship Modern, Captain; Republic First Advance Fleet, Fleet Commander; Republic Air Force, Supreme Commander Appearance: ![]() Background: Linus Von Wolfgang is the heir to the Wolfgang family, a prominent noble line with connections to Dingard's royal family. During Dingard's war with Reno, Linus was the supreme commander of the Royal Air Force. Many credited his strategies for his nation's success in the war. After the rise of the Daetalus Empire, Linus Von Wolfgang was responsible for preserving much of Dingard's air strength, turning the air force into a fleet of pirate vessels that routinely preyed upon supply convoys for survival. Linus provided Clint with supplies, but chose not to directly involve his fleet in the rebel leader's activities. This insured that Dingard's fleet would survive the final days of the empire. It was after this that Linus played an important role in helping Siema Marie unite the remnants of Dingard, Reno, and Saronia into a new country, the Republic. Once again, Linus took on the role of commander of the air force, personally commanding the First Advance Fleet, a duty she would trust to no one else. Strengths/Weaknesses: It is said that Linus's abilities as a fleet commander and airship captain were second to none in the modern era. His success during Dingard's wars and in his pirate campaign against Daetalus at the height of its power serves as evidence of this. Name: Guinevere Age: 30 Rank: General Post: New Dingard, Homeland Defense Force Supreme Commander Appearance: Background: Guinevere's family served as retainers to the royals of Dingard. This bestowed upon Guinevere a life of martial service, one that she struggled to enjoy in her early years. Her talent with the blade quickly made her the rival of Antipus, the greatest swordsman in the land, and they continued a rivalry that, because of Guinevere's taciturn personality, never quite matured into a romance. Guinevere tried to find a friend in Siema Marie, the girl who lost her claim to the throne, but their social statuses kept them from interacting enough to see it move beyond acquaintanceship. To make matters worse, Guinevere's family one by one succumbed to diseases and wars, leaving her the last of her line. Thus Guinevere continued a lonely life of service, dedicating herself body and soul to her duties and stunting her social development. She became known as the silent general, given only to speak when shouting orders. Guinevere's encounters with people like Andrew Vastor and Mizu helped her open up slightly, but even those people disappeared from her life, leaving her a general without a purpose as the Daetalus Empire arose under the leadership of Janus. Guinevere clung to her own country's emperor, following him into Clint's camp, but, as with her own father, Guinevere watched the emperor of Dingard waste away in the Wild Lands. It was said that she sat by his side as he died, yearning for him to call her name if only once. He called only Yalta's name, screaming for Yalta. Guinevere took his last words to heart and dedicated herself to the young girl who had yet to experience suffering. Guinevere found Yalta and began protecting her with all the strength she could pull from Dingard's remnants. Looking to the Daetalus Empire as the greatest threat to the young Yalta, Guinevere began helping Rheda's rebellion against Janus, accompanying Rheda, Arisa, Andrew, Zeik, and the others up to their battle with Jin Dao, where Guinevere found herself overwhelmed by the martial artist's power. Following that encounter, she renewed her dedication to her training, hoping to become the kind of fighter who was capable of defending Yalta. Soon, the empire collapsed along with Clint's open rebellion, and Guinevere found renewed friendship in Siema, who returned to unite the nobles from the kingdoms of Dingard, Reno, and Saronia to form a new country, the Republic. Guinevere, ever bound to the fate of Dingard's royal family, renewed her oath to Yalta and watched the innocent girl become a figurehead empress. Guinevere herself took on duties as supreme commander of New Dingard's Homeland Defense Force--a post that allowed her to safeguard the girl and the kingdom that gave her life meaning. And yet, as Guinevere flowed with the currents of her prepared life, she found herself looking inward, wondering if her own life would ever have meaning outside of her duties as a retainer. Strengths/Weaknesses: Guinevere and Antipus are evenly matched in terms of power, with Guinevere edging Antipus out in speed and technique and Antipus edging her out in power and control. She is an extremely powerful sword master and one of the two best fighters to have come out of Dingard since its founding. Name: Biggs and Wedge Age: 23 + 23 Ranks: Private First Class + Private First Class Post: New Dingard, Guard Corps Appearance: ![]() Background: Biggs and Wedge grew up together in Dingard and joined the army together, going on to serve together under General Guinevere, who was second only to General Antipus in Dingard's army. Biggs and Wedge became close confidants of the lady general and even served as Siema Marie's bodyguard from time to time. Their service under Guinevere continued as Daetalus rose to power, and they served more and more as Siema's bodyguard when she was among her own. When the Republic formed, Biggs and Wedge were designated as Guinevere's personal aids, a post they knew by rote. As they tend to were helmets that cover their eyes, Biggs and Wedge are almost indistinguishable from each other in both appearance and personality. Biggs tends to be more upfront and forceful than the more introspective and observant Wedge. Strengths/Weaknesses: Biggs and Wedge are much more powerful than common foot soldiers, capable of fighting with guns, swords, magic, bombs, and even more unconventional weapons such as maces and even lancers. However, they tend to be jacks-of-all-trades, skilled in a wide variety of deadly arts but not explicit experts in any of them. Their unpredictability is their greatest strength, along with their perfect synchronization as a team. Edited by JDWitchdoctor, Nov 12 2012, 12:09:56 AM.

Pilots of Daetalus Name: Archibald Denver Age: 23 Rank: First Lieutenant Post: Flannagan-class Airship Defiant, Squad Leader Appearance: ![]() Background: Archibald Denver is a Daetalus native with a penchant for mechanical engineering. His interests eventually turned him to military vehicles, which quickly turned his thoughts to service. He trained with the Imperial Artillery Corps and eventually worked as a hover tank pilot in Daetalus's army. He served in the Empire's battles with rebel leader Clint, earning distinction as a commander and as a pilot. He became one of the top pilots to emerge from the lancer training program, earning him his first command: Skull Squadron. Though overlooked compared to Sun and Vermillion squadrons, Skull Squadron served admirably in the fight against Nyx's battle fortress. After this, Lieutenant Denver found himself embroiled in the conflicts between the different factions in Daetalus, most often working for the Loyalist fact, who led him to believe that the Control faction had swayed pilot Alix Turesti to attack the battle fortress Daetalus with her own Sun Squadron. Furious, Denver pledged to destroy Alix personally, though he suffered considerable losses to his squadron during their first hostile encounter. Archibald Denver is a cruel, cunning man, hardened by time on the front and quick to temper even with his friends. He considers himself idealistic, but he can be quite close-minded. Outside the battlefield, he is a surprisingly charitable individual. Like most Daetalus natives, he believes strongly in the importance of community and in the superiority of the lifestyle that Daetalus offers its citizens. His loyalties are first and foremost to his country and whoever he believes is most fit to rule that country. Denver's goal is to ensure his country's dominance over what he sees as primitive kingdoms and corrupt trade unions. Strengths/Weaknesses: As a commander, Denver is cool and collected, able to quickly devise flanking maneuvers and lancer formations. This is his greatest strength. He is often let down by his low close-combat strength, so he prefers to rely on group tactics and long-range attacks. His greatest frustration so far is working with inferior technology compared to his enemy. Name: Darius Hayes Age: 22 Rank: First Lieutenant Post: Flanagan-class Airship Ulysses, Squad Leader Appearance: ![]() Background: Darius Hayes hailed from Reno and fought in his country's war with Dingard. After a short career as a fighter pilot, Hayes was forced to pilot transport airships. It was the civilian alternative to his former job. Hayes was determined never to join Dingard's air force, even if it meant never piloting a fighter aircraft again. When the Daetalus Empire arose, Hayes joined them in subduing Dingard, letting out many of his pent-up frustrations against his former enemy. Once again, Hayes became a fighter pilot, flying a Typhoon against pirate airships. Eventually, his abilities caught the attention of Jack Logan, who made Hayes his lieutenant. Brought under the wing of the man many considered the best pilot in the world, Hayes greatly improved his abilities. After the Empire dissolved, however, Hayes once again found himself in search of a position. He finally earned it by becoming one of the top graduates of Daetalus's lancer training program. Hayes was given command of his own squadron, Vermillion Squadron, and given the best lancers available in preparation for Daetalus's struggle against Nyx's airship. Here, Hayes flew with distinction, becoming a key part of the role lancer squadrons played in the goddess's defeat. Afterwards, Hayes chose to keep himself and his squadron largely out of the squabbles between different factions, instead becoming a keystone in Antipus's Homeland Defense Fleet. Hayes is a composed man on and off the battlefield. He is a strong physical fighter, an expert with claw weapons, as well as an intimidating pilot in the skies. He comes off as short-spoken and terse, a straight-to-the-point man with a fierce dislike of red tape and bureaucracy. Strengths/Weaknesses: Hayes is a well-balanced pilot, displaying both astounding accuracy and a talent for close-combat. His flying is top-notch and his instincts are sharp. He is a deadly opponent for any pilot, and his weaknesses are few. Name: Jack Logan Age: 32 Rank: Lieutenant Commander Post: Valley Point, Engineer Appearance: ![]() Background: Jack Logan was a strange sort to say the least. At an early age, his mind was flooded with memories of a world that was drastically different than Daetalus, his native land. Unlike other people, who had memories of worlds like Terra and Lithia, which at least bore a passing resemblance to Vanda, Jack came from a world of space travel and galactic exploration. He had been a member of an interplanetary police force hailing from advanced societies the likes of which people on Vanda could barely imagine...that is, until Jack began inventing devices from his world. Lasers, airships, communications equipment: Jack revolutionized all of them, and even hinted of greater possibilities to come in his own chain of science fiction novels. As Jack aged, he became obsessed with returning to space. After procuring enough funds from the Datalus Empire shortly after Janus's rise to power, Jack invented his own starship and traveled to Luna, a habitable moon orbiting Vanda. There, he met a race of people called the Lunarians, who welcomed him with open arms. It was a far cry from the return to an intergalactic life that he imagined, but it was a start. In addition, he met a Lunarian girl named Nieve, who expressed interest in returning to Vanda with him. Nieve soon gained permission to be an ambassador to Vanda, and thus Jack brought her back hoping that she could help give him a taste of the life he dreamed of. Unfortunately, she could not fulfill his desires and he could not fulfill hers. After a short-lived romance, they drifted apart, with Nieve searching for a purpose in the intelligence corps and Jack helping the empire organize an advanced air force. Instead of taking an active role in the war with Clint, Jack instead readied himself for a second trip to Luna. This time, he was determined to find out if there was indeed any possibility of him returning to his interplanetary union. However, the conflict with Nyx soon interrupted his efforts, and Jack was forced to involve himself in order to insure his continued research with Daetalus. He took up the mantle of Sun Leader, the commander of a squadron of mecha called lancers, and dove into battle, mentoring a pilot named Alix in hopes that she could take on his role of leader once he was gone. Many in the military realized that Jack's goals lay outside of their own scopes, and they simply worked with him as much as possible to engineer new technology from his memories while they still could. Finally, after the defeat of Nyx's battle fortress, Jack devoted himself fully to his return flight to Luna. Soon enough, his thoughts returned to Nieve. Didn't she deserve a chance to go with him? As fate would have it, Jack would be in a position to offer this very thing to Nieve. She contacted him just as he was readying his ship for departure, and he waited for her and Andrew to join him. Although the circumstances were tense, culminating in an attack on Krakow, Jack, Andrew, Nieve, and the others in Nieve's group traveled to Luna. Once there, they confronted Andrew's pursuers, worked out a truce with them, and proceeded to the Lunar City. Once again, Jack found himself overwhelmed with a sense of wonder and excitement. Luna was almost enough to fulfill his burning desire to return to his old life, and for a few moments, he considered losing himself on the moon until his dreams could be made a reality. However, his thoughts turned more and more to Nieve. She had counted on him, she had wanted to be with him, and yet, Jack had turned her away. He had given up a potential romance in order to pursue his past. Now, during the return to Luna, Nieve was filled with renewed spirit. She was driven by motivations completely outside of her previous life. For Jack, this was as inspiring a sight as any of the technological marvels on Luna. In the end, he decided to return to Vanda with Nieve and, once he saw Andrew and Nieve off, he decided to return to Daetalus, not yet knowing what part he was to play, but ready to accept the here and now, the new life that fate had dealt him. Strengths/Weaknesses: Jack is one of the best pilots in the world, largely owing to his memories and experiences from his previous life, his lightning reflexes, and his pinpoint accuracy. Outside of a lancer or airship, Jack has designed a number of guns, force fields, and heated blades for use in physical combat, and he is quite proficient with them. Name: Rheda Highwind Age: 23 Rank: Chief Engineer Post: Kingston Appearance: ![]() ![]() Background: Rheda, the niece of the great Cid Highwind, grew up on the deck of airships, and soon grew to love working on them both in the air and in the hangar. She won various awards in piloting competitions when she was young, and later joined Reno's Casino Air Ship Fleet. She gained valuable experience working for them, but eventually she decided to study directly under her famous uncle, Cid Highwind. Under his tutelage, she excelled as both a pilot and a mechanic. It seemed that she was destined for a career as a star engineer. However, fate would not be so kind to her. During Dingard's war with Saronia, Rheda became involved with Andrew Vastor, Mizu Vanas, and a number of other fighters who in short time because clsoe friends. She and her uncle tried to help them, but Cid fell victim to the first of their great enemies, Rabist, who took the form of the evil Eternal Forest. Rheda continued to accompany Andrew and the others through their journey, sidetracked from her role as a mechanic in order to fight the Four Fiends. However, the ultimate confrontation with Kraken led to the revival of Janus and the formation of the Daetalus Empire. From the very start, Rheda was against this empire, and she defied it by becoming a leader of a rebellion within Daetalus. One year later, she once again met Andrew Vastor and journeyed with him in defiance of Janus and his empire, teaming up with people from Guinevere to Zeik to Arisa, and fought people as powerful as Jin Dao. With the emergence of Clint as a threat to the people of Daetalus, who Rheda saught to save from Janus, Rheda turned her attention to fighting this man. After Clint's defeat and the dissolution of the empire, Rheda played an important role in the new government as representative of what once was a rebellion against corrupt rule. Together with other engineers from Daetalus, she once again used her star talents to help invent a new type of weapon called lancers. When Daetalus split into factions, she became one of the key players on the control faction. Originally, she hoped to help the civilian leaders take Daetalus back from the violent military. However, it did not take long for her to realize that the civilians were just as corrupt as the military. Seeking someone who could restore Daetalus to its former glory, she allied herself with Michael Kurenai. With him, she hopes to continue her father's legacy of state-of-the-art weapons development with a purpose. Rheda is a very open, liberal young woman with an easygoing personality. Recently, she has sought relationships among other mechanics, but has yet to find any significant other. Her political beliefs are fair, but she values her personal life more than her public one, seeking to rebuild neglected friendships while establishing new ones. Those personal relationships, she believes, will be what determines how politics evolve. She has only to point out how her various friendships in her journey have changed her life, at first sweeping her away from her original goals and then, later, fulfilling them. Life, she thinks, has a funny way of throwing you opportunities if you meet and befriend enough people. Strengths/Weaknesses: As a pilot, Rheda is extremely meticulous in her flying, displaying incredible agility. She is capable of performing complex aerial acrobatics and sharp maneuvers. However, her targeting accuracy and close-combat abilities are only average. Rheda is also a formidable fighter in her own right, having tested her strength repeatedly during the conflicts with the Four Fiends, Rabist, Janus, and Clint. Name: Yuri Grant Age: 25 Rank: Second Lieutenant Post: Kingston, Pilot Appearance...?: ![]() Real Appearance: Yuri Grant stands 6.0 with a slight, wiry build and thick brown hair cut in a clean military style. He has an average face typical of men in Daetalus and kind brown eyes. Fellow soldiers describe him as a humble-looking man whose looks leave people unsuspecting of the strong personality within him. As an officer, Yuri wears a standard offier's uniform, a gray shirt and pants complete with a black leather belt, black leather shoes, insignias at the front pocket, and a tight, stiff collar. In battle, Yuri wears the typical pilot's uniform, a drab, pine green flight suit with pressure controls, a helmet equipped with a yellow optional visor and optional oxygen mask. Background: Born 55 AC in Daetalus to Dmitri and Ivana Grant, Yuri lived an uneventful life, going through elementary, middle, and high schools in a middle-class neighborhood in Daetalus's East Gate community. After graduating high school, he applied to the Military Academy and was accepted, going and completing four years training as a pilot and two years as infantry. However, he failed to make officer in time to become a pilot for Daetalus's war with Clint, so he entered the Outer Defense Force (ODF) as an Officer Cadet. Clint's first attack on Daetalus gave him his chance for distinction, and he personally led the infantry attack that drove Clint's invading forces away from North Gate. During this battle, he scored 21 infantry kills and 2 tank kills: enough to net him his promotion to Lieutenant Second Grade. However, the battle also cost him his grandparents, who were crushed to death when Clint destroyed the dome. Now that the war was becoming more and more personal to him, Yuri redoubled his efforts to give his best in the effort to defeat Clint. He joined the Expeditionary Forces on their assault on Clint's army in Kingston, and led his men with distinction. After Janus's death, Yuri remained in infantry, but secretly applied to the Lancer squadrons, hoping to gain a position in the second squadron being formed or, preferably, Jack Logan's Sun Squadron. However, his chance to join Sun Squadron before their first sortie was dashed by Sen Jeux and Rutland's attack on the city, and Yuri found himself caught in the midst of an ambush. Later, Yuri would seek out Michael of his own will, being labeled a deserter by Daetalus. Yuri is an unassuming, outspoken man, but hardworking and dedicated enough to earn the respect of his peers. Friends describe him as cautiously optimistic, but cite his tendency to be cynical in the face of extreme adversity. However, this cynicism belies calculating analytical skills and an instinct for battle. Yuri has many times proven he can stay calm in the face of danger, and during a crisis people recognize his ability to make accurate assessments of the situation. Outside of combat, Yuri can be considered normal enough, and he goes about it in a nonchalant way. He openly fights for his family and for the future of his city, and no one questions his loyalty or his skills. Yuri's father, mother, two older brothers, and older sister all live in Daetalus, his brothers serving as soldiers and his father as a consultant to a contracting firm working for the military. His sister works at an arms development plant, and his mother happily lives at home, retired from working at the same plant. Yuri's family is seen as a traditional military family in Daetalus. Strengths/Weaknesses: Yuri has received basic combat training from his academy instructors as well as pilot training. His hand-to-hand combat rating has been marked as excellent, and he has successfully mastered Daetalus Form I, the Defensive school of swordfighting that emphasizes parries and counterattacks instead of direct attacks. Yuri has developed some knowledge of Spiritual Force, and he can implement it to a basic extent in his fighting, making him about as strong as the average demon soldier in physical confrontations. Yuri is also an excellent shot, though nowhere near as skilled as the marksmen Cyrus Edwards. Still, he can hold his own in nearly any firefight. Yuri has also received some pilot's training by Captain Jack Logan, who was impressed by Yuri's potential. Yuri continually practices in flight simulators and logs at least two hours of flight time every day. Yuri also has knowledge of range of different survival skills. He is also decent at sports, including a variant of football, and enjoys bird watching. |

Officers of Daetalus Name: Mick Jerome Age: 30 Rank: Lieutenant Commander Post: Kingston, Base Commander Appearance: ![]() Background: An officer loyal to Antipus ever since his days in Dingard's army, Mick Jerome is a competent base commander who has defended fortifications and commanded large numbers of soldiers, first for Dingard and then for Daetalus. Jerome fought against Clint and the rebellion and then went on to continue his service in Daetalus. The government, seeing Jerome close ties with Antipus, the man who mentored him in his early days in the service, chose to relocate Jerome to the Kingston batallion as a way of insuring that Antipus would not have too many supporters close to Valley Point. As Kingston's commander, Jerome saw Michael emerge from obscurity and begin his campaign to retake Daetalus. Jerome's early support of Michael was a crucial step, as Jerome's base provided Michael with a foundation from which he could begin assembling an army. As Jerome served Michael, he found his loyalties shift to the new commander. Where Antipus had brought Jerome into the service, Michael would lead him to new heights as an officer. Jerome is a very intelligent man who is frequently bogged down by his responsibilities, though he always comes out better for the experience. He is calm and rational, an essential voice in Michael's burgeoning campaign. Strengths/Weaknesses: Jerome is a defensive player, an expert at setting up large defensive lines and protecting important areas and targets. He has a thorough understanding of the specifics of military bureaucracy and is as-of-yet untainted by any sort of political ambition. Name: Luzio Clint Age: ??? Rank: Captain Post: Kingston, Fleet Commander Appearance: ![]() ![]() Background: Clint was originally a man driven to petty thievery in a small town in Reno. His parents were killed during the war, and Clint survived by joining various pickpocketing gangs. In his teens, Clint was arrested and put into a prison in Dingard. Here, he joined the criminal culture that had built up in Dingard's unforgiving prison system. Clint joined various prison gangs and fought in their conflicts, earning him the disdain of the guards. After an incident in which Clint killed a fellow inmate, he was thrown into Dingard's deepest dungeon. Here, ironically enough, he found both his opportunity to escape and the truth of his past. Clint found that he had memories of a man from Terra named Luzio, who was a member of a group called the Order of OMNI. The memories of this strange past were puzzling at first, but they yielded Clint the power he needed to escape his awful life. He staged a breakout, inadvertently helping a man named Vergel Merzarick escape as well, and then returned to a life of crime, building both his powers and his influence over the underground in Dingard and Saronia. Clint built contacts inside and outside the governments. He ventured into a number of takeovers of weapons companies, frequently selling weapons to groups such as the Syndicate. One of the most significant such takeovers saw him acquire all of the assets of a moogle named Kyupo, who had disappeared and left an item shop without an owner. Clint would not know it then, but this would earn him the contempt of the man who would later become his long-time rival. All throughout his ventures, Clint slowly learned more and more about those with memories of other worlds. He even learned of the dark crystals, mysterious objects that possessed strange magic of their own. Before Clint could learn more, Janus returned to Vanda and built the advanced city of Daetalus into a mighty empire. Suddenly, the politicians and nobles who had spited Clint in the past turned to him for help. Even the emperor of Dingard sought Clint out, hoping to have the criminal leader organize a guerrilla movement against Daetalus. For a year, that was exactly what Clint did. He united the remnant forces of the kingdoms and raided Daetalus repeatedly, building up an army with which he hoped to challenge the empire. For the first time, Clint felt that it was his time to seize power, his time to rule. Finally, Clint gathered together all of his forces andattacked the domed capitol city of Daetalus. In the resulting battle, Clint destroyed the dome, but the brave defenders of the city repelled him before he could destroy the city. The empire eventually forced Clint all the way back to Kingston, the city bordering the Wild Lands. It appeared that Clint would be defeated, and the empire would be saved. Clint, knowing his army was about to lose against the forces led by Michael, supreme commander of the empire's military, turned to a man named Cornelius, who was leader of a shadow group called the Preying Blades. Cornelius transported Clint to Daetalus, where the leader of the Wild Lands would have a chance at defeating the Emperor himself. Unfortunately, their attempt was cut short by the revival of Rabist, the combined form of Rabist and Janus. In one cataclysmic battle, Clint found most of his troops mowed own by Michael. Clint was forced to retreat and lick his wounds, but his campaign was far from over. Now with contacts within the Preying Blades, Clint began formulating a new strategy for his takeover of Daetalus. His first step was to seed his officers into the civilian population within Daetalus. The troops then performed random attacks on the city to keep their military leaders guessing. Clint, meanwhile, researched the chemical that made the Preying Blade Rutland as strong as he was, eventually developing it into a serum to create a better soldier. Though the serum was eventually deemed too unstable for mass production, Clint augmented his own power with it and proceeded to his next plan. Using stolen plans from Daetalus and notes from the fallen scientist Dion, Clint proceeded to begin construction of his very own battle fortress, the massive craft used by the gods in their campaigns. To generate enough energy to power such a craft, Clint kidnapped the people of Kingston, injected them with his Rutland serum, and used their unstable, superpowerful bodies as human batteries. With his first use of this inhuman generator, Clint formed his battle fortress. With his second use, he turned the fortress on Nyx, the most pressing current threat. However, Clint soon discovered that he had underestimated the goddess. Nyx's battle fortress overpowered Clint's, destroying it and killing the populous of Kingston in a single stroke. Clint barely survived the encounter and, even worse, the unstable energy of his new body had unexpected consequences. The dark crystals that he had researched consumed him, trapping him in a crystal prison. His enemies were quick to write him off, but this was not the end of Clint. Clint was later found by Michael, his mortal enemy. Clint found himself imbued with strange new powers from the dark crystals, and his first instinct was to use them to put an end to the man who had guaranteed Clint's failure against Daetalus. Clint's attempt, however, was cut short by the intervention of Janus. The lord of order quickly subdued Clint, possessing his body for his own use. Humiliated and powerless, Clint was forced to share his physical form with Janus. From this captivity, Clint watched Michael assemble his forces, seeing the strategist's charisma for his own eyes. Inspired, Clint agreed to a startling alliance: he would serve Michael in order to win a part of a new, better Daetalus. Clint claimed that they shared a common enemy, the nobles and politicians who clung to power in Valley Point. Clint did not reveal his entire history with the ruling elite, but he did convince Michael to accept him as an ally. In Michael's company, Clint found himself unusually comfortable. He even came to believe that joining forces with the man was the best decision he had made in years. After all, Michael was the kind of man who moved the world. Clint was intent on riding that movement and, if possible, diverting it for his own benefit. Clint is a cunning and ruthless man, pushed to the edge in prison and hardened against the human condition itself. Brutally contemptuous of the "ruling elite," Clint has made it his goal in life to throw the world into chaos, hoping that the survivors of such a world would go on to build a better, more equal society. Historically, Clint has had no confidence in current world leaders, demons, or gods, but he has developed a strange fondness and sense of rivalry with Michael. He believes that, inevitably, either he or Michael will change the world. Recently, he has even entertained the thought that they could do so together. Strengths/Weaknesses: Time and time again, Clint has demonstrated that no tactic is too low and no strategy is too barbaric in his warfare. He is dangerous in every sense of the word, a tiger on the battlefield and a fearsome opponent for kings and peasants alike. Notable Quotes: "...I've found that human beings are naturally half-existent, at least in a world such as this. Think about it: our survival has since our origins wholly depended on our manipulation of the supernatural. For whatever reason, we could wield magic better than other creatures, say for instance dragons. What makes us better than dragons? What gives us more of a right to live than they? There isn't an answer. There are never answers for such truths, so we humans live with mendacity, that is, the lies we tell ourselves to reinforce our own self-importance. More lies give us moral superiority. We think we're better than demons because we call them evil. We turn them into monsters so that it's acceptable for us to kill them off en masse. Even Frey, our civilization's premier hero, is guilty of genocide. How does he live with that guilt? How can any of us live with ourselves when our entire existence is based on the death of everything around us. When you think about, people are parasites, just like any living thing. We eat, we devour, we kill, and we glorify it through our greatest lie: that is, civilization. In society, we claim friendship with each other when all we really do is huddle together like ants in a hill. We still kill each other, leech off each other, and live with increasingly complex mendacity. Isn't that sad? Everything you love and cling to is part of a system that is slowly eating the world. If we didn't have demons, gods, and catastrophes, who knows how much of this world would already be dead?" Name: Henry Deckson Age: 48 Rank: Captain Post: Atlantis-class Airship Condor, Captain Appearance: ![]() Background: Henry Deckson has been the captain of transport airships since his youth in Reno, and he has worked with supply fleets for over 30 years. His experiences include terms as a supply ship captain in Reno, Dingard, Saronia, and Daetalus's air forces. He has fought in multiple wars, seeing his ships proudly through each of them. He has avoided politics and stuck to his duties, making him a bit of a legend among airship captains. After the dissolution of Daetalus's empire, Deckson worked trade routes from factories in the Wild Lands, serving first under Antipus and then under Jerome. Intrigued by the charisma of Michael Kurenai, Deckson took the important role of securing airship and lancer plans from Valley Point. Deckson fulfilled this duty, albeit with the help of Republic lancers, and returned to his commander ready for his next assignment. His goal looking into the future is to serve his crew and his ship. Ever in command, Deckson is a sterling example of experienced naval leadership, a standard by which other captains evaluate their own work. Strengths/Weaknesses: Deckson has been expected to fulfill a wide variety of roles, be it defending supply fleets from pirates or securing smuggled cargo from unfriendly governments. This has made him an expert at all the duties an airship captain could be expected to perform, making him an excellent candidate for commander of supply fleets. Name: Joshua "Regret" Hansen Age: 31 Rank: Lieutenant General Post: Valley Point, Intelligence Chief Appearance: ![]() Background: Hansen had a shadowy past in Daetalus, one of the few natives who went into a life of high tech crime. He became an expert in hacking terminals, bugging communication devices, and stealing accounts in Daetalus's systems. However, his memories of a world called Lithia changed his perspective of the world. There, he called himself Regret because of his dubious past. His was a life spent second-guessing every move he made, suffering at the very thought of adding to his many regrets in life. Realizing that he was simply living another life he would come to regret, Hansen gave up his ways as a hacker and thief and decided to use his talents in Daetalus's police force. When Janus turned Daetalus into a mighty empire, Hansen's talents were put to use by Shinryu, who came to rely on Hansen's technical expertise in many different operations. Even as the empire crumbled, Hansen remained as the new government's best spy and toughest agent, blessed with remarkable abilities mastered thanks to his Terran memories. Eventually, Shinryu left the intelligence corps and Hansen took over his duties as chief. However, the destruction of the intelligence corps headquarters after the assassination of Reinhardt Douglass dealt Hansen and the other agents a harsh blow. Disenfranchised from both factions, Hansen and his operatives watch and wait from the shadows, hoping to find a leader capable of revitalizing Daetalus. Strengths/Weaknesses: Hansen is a capable fighter as well as hacker and spy. His techniques combine incredible speed as a sword-fighter and fierce lighting attacks. Hansen is the equal of fighters such as Nieve, posing a threat to almost any opponent. Name: Grant Wells Age: 40 Rank: Lieutenant General Post: Bolton, Bolton Defense Force Supreme Commander Appearance: Background: Grant Wells started out as a detective in Daetalus's military police force. A strong, powerful man with a clear-cut sense of justice, Grant typified the hardline conservative police officer, eventually making the leap to line officer and finally captain in the Daetalus Empire. Grant was a hardworking officer who made a career out of firm discipline and harsh drills, and this was nowhere more apparent than in Daetalus's 5th Army, the Standard Infantry Division. This division served as the ground attack forces, a unit used extensively in invasion campaigns, conquests, and attacks against raiding enemies. Grant's major duties included dealing with pirates, acquiring new territory, and subduing rebel activities at home and abroad. Grant thus shouldered a heavy burden during the fight against Clint's rebellion, losing the most soldiers and vehicles out of any of the empire's armies. After Clint was suppressed and Janus was gone, Grant struggled to rebuild, relying heavily on Brutus Antipus's superior organizational skills and more well-rounded charisma. Although Grant eventually lost command of the ground attack forces as a whole, he was still entrusted with the important duty of protecting important cities and supply bases. Eventually, his base of operations came to be in Bolton, one of the first cities to be targeted by Michael Kurenai's effort to reunite Daetalus. A somewhat unreasonable man, Grant was not to be easily persuaded to abandon his post. Strengths/Weaknesses: Grant is a conventional military commander, but most of his experience is in commanding attack forces and not defensive positions. Thus, may of his approaches to defense have not been thoroughly tested in combat, and he still finds himself overeager to engage in charges to try and break his enemy. Name: Nash Fae Age: 43 Rank: Admiral Post: Torington, Torington Defense Force Supreme Commander; Daetalus Naval Division, Supreme Commander Appearance: ![]() Background: Nash has worked in many capacities in his life at sea, from professional fisherman, merchant marine sailor, merchant vessel captain, battleship captain, and submarine captain. Little is known about his past except for the fact that the was born on a fishing barge and raised on a supply vessel. The sea, thus, has been in his blood since he was a boy, and he has become a grizzled salt of a sea captain in his middle age, commanding awed respect among his crew and dependence among those who rely on him to defend them from threats both above and below the ocean's surface. Nash served as captain of Janus's 7th Army in the Daetalus Empire, commanding the empire's entire Naval Division, and he has more or less maintained this role after the empire's collapse, staying out of politics. He simply insures that whatever government is in power in Daetalus has access to the ocean itself and to the rich mineral resources imported from the vast, empty southern continent. Strengths/Weaknesses: Nash's weaknesses have less to do with his actual command abilities and more to do with the limitations of his post, which mainly serves to defend Torington and transoceanic supply fleets and engage in battles between submarines and between battleships. Given that battleship combat is rare and submarine warfare is costly only to supply routes going to and from Agara, the southern continent, Nash's area of expertise is considered narrow in comparison to other branch commanders, though his talents are still necessary for Daetalus's survival. Name: Phoenix Age: 24 Rank: Not Yet Given Post: The Revenge Fleet, Bodyguard; Chief Mechanic Appearance: ![]() Background: Phoenix began her life happily enough, growing up in a merchant family in Dingard and marrying into a wealthy family in the nobility. However, her husband's business collapsed quickly, throwing the family into debt, and he eventually came to take his frustrations out on his wife. As the years went by, Phoenix was battered both physically and mentally. At a certain point, she decided that it was going to end. She killed her husband and quickly found herself arrested and sentenced to death. The military held her in Dingard's highest security prison. Until Clint came, she was content to die. When he saved her in his breakout, giving her the chance for a new life, she found strength remaining in herself and seized the opportunity. In Clint's world, she became Phoenix, the woman who had risen from the ashes to serve as Clint's bodyguard and, from time to time, his lover. Phoenix trained as a mage, but he true talents were to be found in her undiscovered aptitude for technology. Clint's money funded her education, and she quickly became an expert in reverse-engineering old technology unearthed from Vanda's advanced past. As Clint entered into an extended conflict with Daetalus, Phoenix became his chief engineer, designing and repairing his hover tanks. Even after the conflict ended in Clint's retreat, Phoenix continued to develop new technology, including tablet computers that had once been an integral part of ancient societies. Although Phoenix was forced to use her magic in combat to buy Clint time to resurrect his battle fortress, she was able to continue pursuing her engineering aspirations after Clint allied himself with Michael. Phoenix was the one who convinced Clint to try introducing the tablet computers as a tool in aiding Michael's organizational efforts. Although the technology, as complicated as it is, hasn't quite caught on, the use of such devices is becoming more and more apparent as the conflict rages on. Strengths/Weaknesses: Phoenix is an expert mage, versed in many high levels spells including the -agas and Flare. However, her true talents lie in engineering, and thus her magical abilities are easily overlooked for her more important qualities. However, she still makes a fine magical fighter, easily capable of holding her own, especially when paired with her partner Cerberus. Name: Cerberus Age: 23 Rank: Not Yet Given Post: The Revenge Fleet, Bodyguard Appearance: Background: Cerberus was originally a murderer from Reno imprisoned in Dingard's deepest dungeons with Clint. The criminal was freed by the cutthroat man and joined Clint in the breakout. Afterwards, Cerberus discarded his past and pledged his life to Clint, serving as a warrior bodyguard for the man as he ascended the ranks of the criminal world. From then on, Cerberus was a constant companion to Clint, a strong-arm tasked with snapping fingers, breaking legs, and likewise dishing out violent intimidation. As Clint began his campaign against Daetalus, Cerberus became an infantry leader and led multiple charges against Michael's forces. In the end, Cerberus was forced to retreat with Clint, always being there to protect him. As Clint launched his battle fortress, Cerberus and his partner Phoenix stayed behind, eventually rejoining Clint's troops and waiting to hear from their leader again. Now that Clint has joined Michael's forces, Cerberus has found himself in an entirely different atmosphere. More than anyone in Clint's forces, he has struggled to adapt to the new standards of military conduct Clint expects of him. However, as indicted time and time again, Cerberus is more than willing to push himself for the man who saved his life. Strengths/Weaknesses: Cerberus makes an efficient assassin and bodyguard, and performs both roles with all the finesse one would expect of a murderer. The Republic Name: Vaclav Pavel Age: 30 Rank: Captain Post: Heavily-Modified Atlantis-class Airship Gespenst, Captain Appearance: ![]() Background: Vaclav Pavel was born in Saronia to a couple who ran their own radio station. After working at the family business for years, Vaclav's proficiency with communications technology earned him a scholarship at the Saronian Air Force Academy. There, he would play an important role in updating the air force's aging communications infrastructure. He decision to take a post as communications officer on a large airship put him on a promotion-centered career path. After the rise of Daetalus, Vaclav became an important figure in Von Wolfgang's pirate war against Daetalus's air force. Vaclav's contributions eventually earned him his own command, and he carried his new importance with him when the Republic was established. There, he volunteered to become captain of a heavily-modified Atlantis-class airship that was to become the testing platform of a number of new technologies. This position placed him in charge of a research team, a military crew, and a brilliant weapons developer named Nira. Thus, the test of his career began. Given his lackluster personality, Vaclav struggled to keep up with the energetic and, at times, pushy Nira, who often made him seem indecisive at times. At first, Pavel was not sure how to approach the young woman. Sometimes he would come off as too strict, and at other times too spineless. As the war began its initial stretch, Vaclav was doing all he could just to survive each day without embarrassing himself. Vaclav Pavel is a tall, gangly man with piercingly bored-looking eyes and an unrelentingly monotone voice. Known to be charismatic only during radio broadcasts, Vaclav was often ostracized among his peers for his pessimism and awkwardness, though he has consistently earned the respect of those serving under him. His quick-thinking and composure under pressure are notable, as is his surprising thoughtfulness. |
