Great result but not the performance to go with it. Maybe it is the International factor, or some of the players still lacking sharpness, but our problems in front of goal need to be addressed quickly. Pukki's confidence seems to be at an all time low and this is worrying given our striking options at the moment. Too much reliance on Commons to score from midfield doesn't inspire much confidence for the near future but it is what it is. The midfield also looked flat and part of that was down to the running Aberdeen did, and to be fair to them they looked defensively well organised and had no small amount of threat on the counter attack. All that said, to get a win when you play poorly is the sign of a good team so at least there was that. Credit to Forster for an excellent, match winning save, to make up for the utterly howler for the Aberdeen goal. Keeper comes for the ball, he has to get it. Had he stayed he would have had a simple catch and the team would have gone on comfortably to build on a 1-0 lead in the 2nd half. All this chat about being Ingerlund's no.1 is irrelevant if he can't get his club form sorted out and learn to be more decisive. There are many occasions where he should be coming for the ball but stays on his line so his decision making has to be worked on. Good performances from Ambrose, van Dijk, Izaguirre and Fisher, and the fact that the back 4 were the best players on the park says it all. Milan next, fun and games begin.

Yeah agree Des, Forward line is poor, we need a top class striker and a playmaker, Midfield lack's creativity...

Therein lies the problem. All of the above need a lot of money, or it is just roll the dice time and time again and hope one of them turn into a player who can do a passing impression of a Larsson or Hooper. On the optimistic side of things, Lennon does seem to have a knack of finding potential and motivating his players. Until we get it right though, it is going to be scary watching Celtic in the CL, and we will always be the massive underdog, with reaching the knock-out stages considered an amazing return. I would normally be looking forward to Milan at Celtic Park but I am genuinely worried about what will happen if they do as I think they will and put 10 men behind the ball and let us come and try to breach their defensive lines, while waiting for a mistake on the break. Then again, this is Celtic, and this is Celtic Park.

Good performances in patches but those passages of play where we were good were brief , credit Aberdeen their gameplan could resemble AC Milans tonight Same old failings that are repeated game after game - no goal poacher , no playmaker , no creativity very little imagination Now theres " slow patient build up " against a 9 man defence/midfield looking to drag opposition players out of position to create a goal scoring opportunity Theres also " slow laborious obvious repeatative unimaginative build up " with the unlikely prospect of a goal scoring opportunity Imo we were the latter ..... yes Samaras hit their post , their goalie made a good save from Commons & Ledley but imo thats not enough we won the game so I,m delighted with 3 points but I,m less than thrilled with the performance There was also a return of our defensive frailties .... their full back could chuck the ball into our 6 yard box producing a nervousness from experienced internationalists ..... FF made a wonderfull save from McGinn The best part of the game was Derk who played like a winger - get the ball , get past the defender , cross .............. more of the same tonight Why do fans leave early , especially Celtic fans as we score so many late late goals ? ...... it was freezin cold day respect for traveling perhaps miles even from another country , the entertainment was limited but why not see it out to the end ? I watched the game at home ...... but just askin like |
