I think we can win tonight, because Ajax have recently sold two of their best players, Christian Eriksen to Tottenham and Alderweireld to Atletico Madrid. But tonight we will unfortunately miss Kris Commons, who is one of our most important players (which he proved with his goal against Karagandy). Keep The Faith ! |

Not the best of performances, But a valuable win, once again our passing game was dire, Just glad it was an awful Ajax team. We need to produce better in Amsterdam, I thing i would like to say is all credit wee James Forest tonight, Tension on the pen, Ajax players making a mountain out of a mole hill, and the wee man keep's his head and tucks it a away. pressure kick, fair play lad... Also though big Van Dijk played well and big Fraser as expected. We lacked creativity and flair, and a decent pass, But held in there and got a major 3 points tonight, all to play for.

Brilliant result and a good performance from all of them tonight. When you consider who was missing, and the form they have been in, that was the best we could have hoped for and I think all of them did the jersey proud (one substitute aside). I am so happy for Kayal, thought he was excellent last night, disciplined, positionally good and was heavily involved with two massive moments, his goal and the chase back when the Ajax player was virtually in on Forster in the first half. Kayal is a much better striker of the ball than his goal return suggests and perhaps his tame sidefooter that somehow made the back of the net will bring out more of a goal return for him now. His tackle back for me was sheer quality though, had he mistimed that, we might have well as waved by to not only the CL but European football for the rest of the season, an excellent contribution. Mulgrew next to him was excellent as well, as were van Dijk (he is so calm it scares me), Lustig, Samaras, Forrest and Izaguirre who had his best game in Europe for a long long time. Kudos to Forrest for keeping his nerve as he did regarding the penalty. And then there is Forster. . Terrific stuff again.Nir Biton... is it just me, or does this lad really not look like a footballer when he enters the playing arena? He has not impressed me at all. Sending off aside, and it was a correct decision from the referee, I just can't see how he fits in to the side, looks off pace, uninterested and not even half the player of Jackson Irvine (who is on loan at Killie). Perhaps he needs more time. Would like it if he had shown something that would allow me to harbour some hope that there is a player there though. As for Ajax, thank you Frank de Boer for your "best team lost" patter, precisely what this Celtic team need for the return trip to Ajax. Remember Blackburn? I thought they played well, retained the ball etc but much of their possession was in places where you want the opposition to have the ball so I don't think the possession statistics were a good indicator of how the game actually went.Come the return, we have van Dijk and Boerrigter (if fit) with points to prove in the country they played last season, hopefully Commons will be back, and who knows, perhaps Brown will be successful in his appeal, so I don't think for a minute Ajax thinking they were the better team will put them in as good a position as they think. Add to that more time for Pukki to gel and I think the game will be a very interesting one. Well done Celtic, and well done the support, thought they were terrific.
