Och here we go again gettin a bit repetitive lining up against arguably the best team of a generation So Messi is out so its a walk over for us then ...... those two wee guys in the middle will no doubt hog the ball an pass us dizzy Their ball retention will be utterly dominant , their non bloody stop movement will have us chasin shadows if we,re not carefull draggin us all over the shop Right enough about them ........ if Efe an our Dutch master play as they have been ... Lustig & Mathews are a great combo who can match them for energy .... Brown in midfield can break up their fluency but he must have total support from Commons etc or he will run himself into the ground Hopefully big FF will be an inspiration .... Samaras unplayable .... Stokes has been brilliant on occassions lets hope tonight is another such occassion ..... Izzy ? no lapses of concentration please Dont expect this outfit to resort to long throws or big hoofs into our box so we shouldnt see any calamitous defending as seen in Kazakstan On council telly so hopefully I can be boasting at work about an unrivalled atmosphere and a great performance ..... no stupid defensive balls up shoot ourseves in the foot unforced error that flattens the fans type early Barca goal please

Never look forward to these as much as I should as there is always this fear of them getting into their groove and turning us over. That said, we have coped very well with them every time we have played so, here is to hoping that continues. Messi missing won't make too much of a difference as far as I am concerned as in Neymar they have a player who has a point to prove, in Alexis Sanchez they have an excellent front man and in Pedro a very capable player (thankfully his resemblance to Sergio Busquets ends with an uncanny facial resemblance and does not extend to him falling over when a rain drop hits him). Put Xavi and Iniesta behind them and even without Messi they have frightening potential if they are in the mood. As far as Celtic are concerned, we must use our height well and as Caesar says, keep running, all day long. Wanyama said that their heads as well as their bodies hurt after last years game and that doesn't surprise me one bit, this one will be all about will and concentration and taking that chance when it comes up. Never sure about Stokes on this stage, but can't fault him being given a chance, and to be fair, this will be his home CL debut so who knows what he will come up with? If Forrest can make it then he and Samaras will give Barcelona plenty to worry about on the flanks and Commons will probably sit behind Stokes and in front of Brown and Mulgrew who will protect our first choice centre halves yet again. I can see Lustig at right back and if Forrest is fit then Lennon will have to decide if he prefers Matthews to Izaguirre at left back, but who knows? Come on Celtic, do us proud and none of that patronising pat on the head crap from Adrian Chiles after the game about being unlucky losers. Win and win well.

Really looking forward to the game tonight. Even though Barca are without Messi they still have a formidable team, but I think they have some problems in defence. On the other hand Celtic are a bit weaker than last year after the sale of Hooper and Wanyama. I predict a draw tonight. |

Ugh. This is getting to be repetitive. Backs against the wall and then a moment of stupidity by the referee, helped out by a wee bit of petulance from someone who should know a lot better, and all that hard work is undone. I thought that the first half was a step backwards in terms of the way the team have been improving in Europe but then I wasn't surprised at all as Barcelona kept the ball very well, though did nothing much with it that was dangerous. Thought Lustig defended with experience and intelligence against Neymar, who is a nightmare to play against and that the two in the middle, Ambrose's crazy runs forward aside (always going to be a part of his game I reckon) were absolutely superb, marked well, read the play well and covered for each other and their fullbacks. Then we have the midfield and with Brown and Mulgrew predictably playing deep it was left to Matthews, Commons and Stokes to support Samaras. Therein lies the problem, a lack of pace. Having both Stokes and Commons in the side for a game like this is a tough ask for the side as both occupy the same space and need runners for their play. Defending against Celtic at this level is therefore relatively straightforward as the pass has to be spot on and there needs to be enough in terms of support for someone like Samaras. He ran into dead ends all day as there was no one to give him that support. Again, I understand why both were picked but wonder whether it serves the team as well as Lennon thinks. Don't want to be too harsh on them as I think they all put in a really good shift today and had Mulgrew taken his chance the game would have looked very different. The incident that mattered was the red card and I thought the referee made a massive mistake, spurred on by Neymar's over reaction, but why Brown had to let his frustration get the better of him with the wee fly kick is such a disappointment for me. He is the captain and has to have the coolness to wear that armband. Shouldn't have been anything more than a yellow card (and a good one to give away at that) but knowing referees in Europe, why even give them the opportunity to send you off. It's just frustrating as anything. Oh well, good cameos from all the three subs and it is well within our ability to still qualify, though having to win against AC Milan is a hard ask as they will know exactly how to set up. All part of the journey, keep it up Celtic, this is a slow burner and such is life. Good effort, not the right result.

Very harsh, but then part of me understands this decision. The issue was he was sent of for violent play, no matter how much of a meal that diving Brazilian made of the challenge, he did kick out and the replays will do him no favours regarding the appeal, so.... Learn from the mistake Scott Brown, can't have the captain missing for half of the CL group games.
