Job done. Quite surprised before the game that Aberdeen fans interviewed thought they could win the league and I have to say, this is the type of thinking that has been missing from the game for so long. Really pleased to see other teams have that sense of belief in themselves and it can only be good for competition and for Celtic as well. No easy games. That over 20,000 showed up for the game was terrific as well. On the park, I thought it was an even contest for the most part, with the same old problems manifesting themselves for us. Same thing week on week, defensive fragility at times and no strikers. All that said, it was Kayal's best game in a while, committed, read the game well and held his own. Let's hope this is the return of him as a force and the beginning of a good run for him in the side. Ledley ticked along nicely for the first half hour and then, when Lennon changed things around, the team started threatening, culminating in the incident that turned the game, the sending off. Russell Anderson was fouling Samaras in the early stages of the move so one of them was going to get sent off and the keeper made up the referee's mind. Big week coming up so will be interesting to see how we handle Kazakhstan. Also, nice to have a few clean sheets under the belt, despite the losses to personnel. Would like to see Mulgrew in at centre half for the games that matter, alongside van Dijk, who looked strong, good in the air and composed when he came on. |
