I know, it's March, but hey, the league is all but wrapped up, as long as the side get the finger out in the next few weeks, and we have a potential cup final to look forward to (not counting any chickens when it comes to Celtic at Hampden though), so I thought I might as well start the next season thread. Been an excellent European run, something to shout about and all but next season, should the league title rest in the trophy room as we all expect it to do, there will, I believe be three qualifying rounds for the CL group stages. Either business will have to be done early in the window, as these games, potential banana skins and all, will make or break Celtic's season. I expect to see a few leaving, Hooper and Wanyama will, I think, look to further their careers in the EPL and there will be interest in Kayal, Forster, Ledley, Forrest, Matthews, Wilson and possibly Ambrose. Holding onto them will be difficult, though in the latter grouping, perhaps the potential for transfer will be less down to lower levels of media exposure and therefore less in terms of transfer fees. I would like to see the left full back area strengthened as a priority, great as he is going forward, Izaguirre is a defensive nightmare for the most part, indicated by the fact that when he simply does his defensive duty he gets applauded. Midfield is going to be the interesting one, If Wanyama leaves, then losing Kayal will be a near disaster as far as I am concerned. He has the ability to look the part at CL level, knows how to make a pass and we will need players like him if we are to take that next step and learn how to retain the ball in games, especially away from home in Europe. Although Brown has improved a lot, maturing into the player we thought we had signed from Hibs, he isn't, IMO, the best in a central midfield role as this requires more technical attributes and his marauding from the right side serves the team very well in unsettling defences. Ledley must be kept at all costs as he is mature, and knows how to play in a team. Rogic is still a few months away from getting fully adjusted to the Scottish game and Commons should also be retained. Not sure about Mulgrew in midfield at all, especially at CL level. Up front, Miku will probably return, I like the look of Lassad but I am not sure about him staying or going, and this leaves us with Stokes (who, though capable of brilliance, frustrates me with his choice of pass at times), Watt (still developing), Samaras (critical for the advancement of the club in Europe), Forrest (fantastic on his day), Bangura (remember him?) and Hooper, who as I said, I can't see staying. Looks like Lennon will have his work cut out for next season, and I hope they have been doing plenty of work behind the scenes already to get the side ready. Thoughts? |

Agreed that Hooper an Vic will be playing in the greatest league in the world next season with bids for FF and others to contend with , we must keep those young players who , importantly , want to stay - Mathews , Ledley , Watt , Forrest etc who can grow into a better team next season I hope we,re not discussing the same team selections next season that we do this season - Mulgrew in midfield , central defensive pairing etc I hope we have Vic & Hoopers replacements in mind hope we are in the early stages of negogiations with a swift clean exit early in the transfer window rather than a long lingering drawn out affair As always our fringe players have to attract suitors , would expect 1 or 2 youngsters to become part of our first team squad Rogic will be a better player with a pre season behind him IF Ambrose can cut out the unnecessary mistakes then he has a future , can Wilson play like a commanding confident modern central defender every week or spasmodically , Izzy has to finnish the season like the Izzy of old as we mustn,t let weaknesses escalate John Park will be vital , I hope he has 2/3 names that Lennon has been made aware of and Lawwell has sanctioned the £££££s Theres been a few isolated disappointments domestically and I will be furious if we dont win the Scottish Cup The CL campaign was nothing short of sensational winning away from home and seconds away from actually winning the group regaining respect in European football Off the field we must stand our ground in the face of the Scottish football authorities cowardice in their decision making regarding their treatment of the cheats on the other side of town and we must show our support of Scottish football as a whole we must always put Celtic first and foremost without throwing the baby out with bathwater The board must show Lennon that they match his ambitions and arent content to stand still Finally the Celtic board must embrace the Green Brigade who have made Celtic Park such fun again ... imo if the season begins with us flopping on the CL qualifiers due to the biscuit tin mentality and the board being seen to ostracise the GB then

Looks like Hooper can scratch Narrich off his list of possible future employers as they look as if they,re signing van Wolfswinkel for £8.5m So thats leaves plenty of other EPL clubs with a shed load of Sky readies

Got a feeling Hooper will end up at Newcastle and Victor at Manure or Arsenal. We desperately need a centre half imo. Have done since Mjallby wore the shirt. We also need to try and persuade either a top striker towards end of his career or a young prospect to CP but with things as they are it`s going to be harder than ever. I`m worried about attendances. Fans are scunnered that I talk to. It`s just not the same. I`m not advocating Sevco get in by any means, but I think the time has come for a cross border tourny of some kind. Martin has just turned 17 so I have to pay two adult tickets and tbh it`s hard to justify it considering the competition. I`ll probably renew but it`s a lot of money. |

I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers It is up to us, to everyone at Celtic Park, to build up our own legends. We don’t want to live with history, to be compared with legends from the past. We must make new legends." Jock Stein | |
