..... Rogne aint the quickest but Wilson when next to him has the pace to compensate likewise Mathews but defenders should,nt have to worry about another defenders frailties ..... I would rather Mathews was concentrating on his offensive duties rather than holding back worrying about a through pass highlighting Rognes weakness Hopefully we will control the game to the extent that Rogne wont be our achilies heel ..... but , to give big Tam his due he can heid ra baw so we should be ok defending punts up the park an corners plus having slagged him off I,ll put him down for scoring from a set piece Putting Vic in the centre of defence will ensure Higdon doesnt bully us

Brutal performance last night lacked just about everything. Forest and Samaras were the only 2 making an afford. Defending was shocking to say the least. But to be fair it must be hard to be motivated when your 21 points clear. |

Only three plus points for me in the entire game, Kayal (who I thought ran his socks off for the cause alone in the midfield), Samaras (who will take time to get into the swing of things) and Forrest who was effective down the right. This one doesn't lie simply at the foot of the players IMO, it lies with the tactics and the selection. Going to Motherwell that light in midfield, with only one player who can graft (in Kayal) is criminal IMO. There was no foundation built on which the flair players could express themselves and this is why the game was lost. When you factor in basic defensive errors in the fullback areas then you have what we got, a deserved defeat. Then again, it won't make a blind bit of difference in the grand scheme of things, the title will be back at Celtic Park and over the season, deservedly so. The team will see 2-3 top players go in the summer (at least) and the rebuilding will begin again. Can't see Kayal, Wanyama or Hooper taking to the field next season (all for different reasons though). All part and parcel of being Celtic, playing in the league that we do, under those financial constraints. |

Motherwell playing for second place likely had more to play for than us , given the financial rewards but dear me we were abject and it worries me that we,ll be treated to another insipid display tomorrow So is it that easy to negate our play ? push up onto our back 4 ? ....... how quickly we go from free flowing football v Dundee Utd to stagnation v Motherwell Jeez we played like some of our players were introduced to each other on the bus to the game ffs .... two players going for the same header then heading the ball infield ... Izzy with the awareness of a drunk at a cash point A few players need to keep Zaluskas company on the bench as they seem to be too assured of their place and too comfortable sadly not assured & comfortable on the pitch I will be furious if this malaise denies us the double |

This game typified the way I`ve felt about the season so far. To be honest, I`m finding it hard to get motivated when it comes to football just now and it`s been that way since early doors. Be it the lack of competition or whatever, I just don`t get as upset now as I would have. However, I`m not paid thousands to play in the Celtic shirt and from what I saw there were very few who would be automatic picks in the game this weekend. To be fair, none of them would play for me had I options. A few things stood out for the positive in that some players will not make it and should we get the opportunity they should be moved on. I`m mainly talking; Rogne, Stokes, Forrest, Ambrose. Ambrose is feckin gash folks. Dilly dally pish gets you nowhere and he must put the scoots on the rest of the defence when he plays. Noted that Lenny decided to put Victor back into defence following the second goal. Liverpool ffs?! Tranmere wouldn`t take him! I`m not going to have a go at Izzy, as I feel there has been a really good turn in his attitude and performances lately. He was however sleeping at both goals. Forrest and Stokes offer very little to me. Stokes is a funny one. All the finishing attributes of a good player yet he seems lazy and incapable of playing the role. Forrest is starting to irritate me. A poor equivelant of McGeadie imo. So there we have it. Rant over. Hopefully we can reproduce the levels of the Juve game (Robbed btw) and I can start enjoying Celtic more. I don`t think I`m alone. |

I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers It is up to us, to everyone at Celtic Park, to build up our own legends. We don’t want to live with history, to be compared with legends from the past. We must make new legends." Jock Stein | |

Regarding our/mine love/hate relationship with football I,ve said countless times , I hold the modern day big time footballer in utter contempt , they are blood suckers with the mentality of sheep ..... a few for instances .. at corners - put the ball just on the arc ... who started that for the sheep to follow turn up at away grounds with BIG cordless headphones and those little trollies , a European player starts it maybe , the sheep follow baaaa messages on t-shirts - who gives a toss if you love god making a wee heart with yer thumbs an fingers when ye score snoods , gloves and anything else they can find in their chest of drawers Enough of this ... I blame Ashley Cole I am getting bored with football in general which more often than not boils over into anger ..... that my support of football underpins the obsenities that are the Man City/Chelsea salaries , that by watching Messi/Ronaldo etc I am pandering to the cult of the individual that means nurses/teachers earn in a year what Rooney gets for wearing certain boots I make no apologies for bringing politics into football .... also the dumbing down of football - when we had McIllvaney we now have Keith Jackson or Gordon Waddell ... we are insulted by the moronic monosylabic utterings of so called football experts who insult football fans intelligence with their " ehmm " ... " eh " .. " the boy done well " I,m not living in the past but imo football as the game that I loved has gone football the cash cow has just begun , a major player in the entertainment/leisure industry I understand that its a long time since players did five days down the pit then played football on the Saturday that the days of Kelly/White have replaced by richer more ruthless equivilents .... footballers had to be protected from the dictatorship of the boardrooms it used to be that the fans empathised with the footballers seeing the chairmen/directors as the enemy now the footballers and owners have circled their Bentleys and Mercs to keep the fans out I have made no attempt to encourage the weans in my family to share my love of football cause , partly , I find my love of football embarrassing and difficult to justify Couldnt handle these types of little chats - " Dad why do footballers molest/rape women , why do footballers kill people with their big flash cars , why are lots of clubs racist , that alcohol on that clubs jersey can I have some , why does a football club want you to insure our house with a certain company , why does a football manager get attacked on the street or touchline , are those fans hurt because they,re Jewish , if we go to the game can I have a programme/scarf/burger/coke/scratch card " .... I havent had any chats like these Football is nothing without the fans but the fans are being demonised/criminalised clubs want customers with online accounts Sorry for the rant folks ........ such is my loathing for football I,m flicking from this post to watching Dundee v Utd

Great post. Sums up what I feel as well. The dumbing down is a reflection of not necessarily society, but more pertinently how marketing people view society. Sadly the punters are allowing themselves to go that way as well. The game, for me, is on the verge of death in this country. I saw a piece on SSN the other day talking about getting X-Factor type competitions to find players (they were focusing on our own Aussie bhoy Tom Rogic, who won such a competition) and two things from the piece struck me. Aside from the obvious life imitating "art", there was an interview with Roy Hodgson who said that there were players out there who are unknown, every bit as talented as some of the household names we hear about, who will never get picked up because of their lack of exposure. That this blatantly obvious point appearing in the mainstream media is so rare sums up exactly where we sit now. The "education" of football fans is basically non existent, there is very little understanding about the game, and what there is out there is cliched and trite, brought to the fore by pundits like Andy Townsend and hosted by people who know nothing about the game like that Brummie guy on ITV (whose name escapes me, hopefully permanently). We are in marketing land and the beautiful game is dead. Players are now considered worthwhile if they have good publicists. I also blame Ashley Cole, and David Beckham and the rest of their like, consumed as they are with their image off the field. I love football because I loved playing it, watching it, hearing people speak with passion and knowledge about it, feeling the build up before a game, that feeling as you walk up to a stadium, not thinking about facilities or comfort or the music blaring over the tannoy but the atmosphere, the tactics, the game itself. There was the beauty of someone describing a bit of football that they had witnessed 30 years ago, still fresh in their memory, not captured on tape but part of them. Now it is all about seeing it on youtube or DVD or whatever. The joy of it is gone. Joy is what it used to be about. Now it is all about points, and qualifying for a bigger money pot so you can sign players the next season and qualify for another money pot. How about actually winning something? Having the ambition to say 2nd place is nothing in a league because you haven't won the whole thing? Instead it is all about getting the last CL slot or some such nonsense. The game has been hijacked by marketing people and they don't let go of anything unless there is no money in it, this thing is all about ROI (Return on Investment), and for as long as there are people interested, there is money involved. Sounds pessimistic, I know, but that is the reality. Like Caesar, I no longer encourage young people I come into contact with to follow football, I believe it is genuinely pushing them into some corporate nightmare and is no longer the game that I spent my childhood playing. Very little joy left in the game sadly. On to the next person to rant on the most hijacked TCE thread in many a year.
