PETER LAWWELL has launched a scathing attack on former pin-up Bhoy and TV pundit Charlie Nicholas.

The Celtic chief executive was furious at the Sky analyst’s criticism after the Hoops crashed out of the Champions League in Aalborg.

He came out fighting on all fronts following the disaster in Denmark promising:

FUNDS for boss Gordon Strachan in the January transfer window;

TO hang on to Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura rather than letting him return to the J-League with Yokohama Marinos;

A KICKING for the moaners who predict a bleak European future for the Hoops.

Lawwell launched into his strongest defence of the Celtic board after fears the “biscuit tin” mentality was creeping back among the men holding the purse strings, with ex-Parkhead striker Nicholas getting both barrels.

He said: “I don’t accept the squad wasn’t strong enough at the start of the season. We always want better, and always want more players. But recent results have proved the squad is strong enough.

“As for Charlie Nicholas, the guy appears to be a serial Celtic critic. He doesn’t know what is going on in this club, he has got no idea how a club is run. He appears to be bitter and somewhat paranoid. Although I have not been in the game for my entire life, the time I have been in it has taught me to only recognise the opinions of people you respect. Therefore, I don’t recognise his comments. The guy has obviously got a problem with Celtic for some reason....

See, to me shite like this just illustrates exactly how little this fat tumour Lawwell knows about our support.

He doesn't accept that the squad wasn't strong enough at the start of the season? Good for you fat boy. You are the only fucking person who felt that way.

As per usual, it's the "Oh as long as we are better than a really shite Hun team, then great, job done."

Like the bit about Bobo. But honestly, wish the two of them would shut the feck up as it's getting childish and boring.

P.S. Charlie, while being a bit of a dick, is right IMO.

Charlie takes a new pot at Celts

by Ronnie Cully

CHARLIE NICHOLAS has re-ignited the smouldering feud between him and Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

In the wake of the defeat by Aalborg last week, the former Parkhead striker claimed Lawwell was getting carried away by his own power and that he ruled the club through fear.

Lawwell hit back by saying Nicholas is bitter and paranoid.

But the Sky TV pundit has retaliated by saying: "I don't do paranoia - but he obviously does.

"Just ask Bobo Balde. He's the guy Lawwell wanted to sign a confidentiality agreement when Birmingham came in for him in August.

"It saddens me this whole thing is getting personal because there was a time when Peter and I were friendly."

Nicholas added: "Lawwell's ego has become so big he has forgotten the true soul of the club, the fans."

Nicholas also questioned if manager Gordon Strachan still had the stomach for the job following the defeat in Denmark.

But the manager assured his former Scotland team-mate: "A lot of people maybe think it was a good time to go after three titles. But they're not me.

"They said that after year one, they said it for year two, then three, and they'll say it again for year four. But it's people who don't really know me.

"It's funny how people can say, He's not got the stomach for it.' But it's those who don't know me who are saying what I'm going to do.

"Why would I leave? What would I do?"

Lawwell is now turning his attention towards delivering the players the fans want to see arrive at the club in January and said: "We're looking at both quality and quantity. We have a track record of getting to a transfer window and coming out of it stronger."

Oh please Peter, don't even try it. Track record? Try one or two times.

This is what I find the hardest to comprehend, fair enough they come out with spin, but to expect us all to be stupid enough to believe it? Does he really think we are that big a shower of eejits? :banghead:

I must apologise for hijacking this old thread of yours Des, but I started putting all the Charlie Nick/Liewell stuff in here, so may as well stick with it. :)

Maybe we shoukld change the thread title though, or split it, or something. :D

Anyway, this appeared in Pravda. Absolutely shocking so it is.

I mean who the fuck do Paul Caddihy and that wank sock Tony Hamilton think they are??????

Unprofessional, petty, childish and coming from two absolute nobodies. I hope when Peter put his hand up their arses to move their lips it hurt like feck!

Pretty hard to see either side of this shower themselves in glory.

Nicholas is a rather pointless individual, popular only on SS as he seems to fit in with the "roaring" Scottish accented Andy Gray (seems to be a trend of some sort) and what on earth Celtic are doing responding in such a petulant and childish manner I will never know.

Custodians of the club? What happened to doing things with a bit of class?

Why bother responding to Charlie Nicholas and his obvious bitterness about the club by condemning his own playing record. Did we not ALL cheer him on when he wore the hoops? Shall we denigrate our own efforts at the time as well? Rank stupidity and frankly, it look like Nicholas's comments actually hurt Mr. Lawwell. Says it all really.

Shouldn't be even an issue as this is surely not about these two individuals but the issues.

Probably the most disappointing thing to me about this. Just discuss the issues and everyone will be better for the debate having taken place. Or even the issues raised. Instead we have a media pundit who is paid to write nonsense and get people to buy the rag he writes for and a Chief Executive who really should know better than to stoop to his level and give the individual any recognition.

Class, Lawwell, class. You would think with all the time spent with media people and doing PR, he would know better. What does it say? Perhaps, that there seems to be a lot of worry at board level that there is some grumbling amongst the support and general discontent about the way things are, which would warrant Lawwell responding to this type of article.

Hardly as if it is the first time. Happens a few times every year. Happened when MON was in charge, with people like Nicholas talking about the team not being strengthened etc. Ignored then, should have been ignored now. Or is that something I shouldn't be able to say as I am not one of those who has the privilege of being paid by Celtic PLC?

Word of advice for Mr Lawell, who had our total unwavering support.

"Sign a left-back and shut people up!"

What great track record are we talking about here?

Nicholas was a great Celtic player imo and does stick the boot in. However, sentimentality goes for nothing and he is high profile. No-one has had the balls from within football circles to challenge the high and mighty Peter Lawell.
