      Wilson signs new Celtic contract

Celtic full-back Mark Wilson has signed a new three-year contract
extension to keep him at the club until 2012.

The 24-year-old arrived at the Scottish champions from Dundee United
            in a £500,000 deal in January 2006.

"It feels great to sign," Wilson told the club website. "I've been
at Celtic for a while now and we managed to come to an agreement
            really quickly.

"I think the best years are still ahead of me. I don't think
defenders hit their peak until they get older."

Wilson has been used at left-back in recent weeks, despite being
more comfortable on the right flank.

"There are so many highlights from my time at Celtic already," he
added. "The stand-out is winning the title at Tannadice last season.
            It's a moment I will never forget.

"I think all the boys would say the same, though. It's the type of
experience you could only get at Celtic. If you moved down south or
abroad, you wouldn't get experiences like Tannadice or the European
            nights at Celtic Park.

"It will take a lot to beat the way we won the league last season,
but if we go on to win a few more trophies this season then you
            never know.

"I've come a long way in the last three years. I've won trophies,
I've played a few different positions and I think I've grown up a
            lot as well."

Meanwhile, Norwegian defender Erlend Hanstveit has started a
            week-long trial at Celtic.

The 27-year-old has been with Brann Bergen for 10 years and would be
            available on a free transfer.

can't really see his role at celtic.

behind hinkel and caddis at right back for me, and we should be buying a quality left back this january.

all things being equal, he's a back up.

he played his first games at his natural right back position until he broke his toe(or is that a metatarsill) at old trafford
SINCE COMING BACK HE HAS HAD TO COVER AT LEFT BACK (hoops caps aff :banghead:
so thats unfair auld yin on mark once we sign a real left back then mark and hinkell will be the two competing for the right back position which will mean adious to doumbe
tigers gonna get ya

Totally disagree. Naylor would have been lynched for getting his arse handed to him by cousin in the last huns game. He's had a few decent games lately but for me he's just not got it to play at this level - I'd have Hinkel, Caddis and Doumbe (wherever he is) before him at right back. Fair play to him for winning the contract though.

If Naylor had been playing right back and that (ie Cousin) had happened to him, then fair enough. The problem though, is that Naylor has that happen to him on a regular basis in his natural position. Therefore he get's dogs abuse and rightly so.

Wilson was played at left back, out of position and he got slaughtered. If that had happened to him whilst playing at right back, I would have castigated him for it.

The fact is, Wilson has looked a far better player at left back than Naylor.

To say you'd have Doumbe before Wilson is crazy talk. Even Caddis, as lets face it, he is just raw potential at the moment. Doesn't have the experience and despite his pace and attacking qualities, he hasn't looked much chop defending.

Wilson is a more than adequate right back and that is all he should be judged on.

Just a shame he broke his foot at Old Trafford as he was hitting some major form around that time.
