Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has vowed to provide funds in January to boost the club's quest for four in a row. The Scottish champions moved seven points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League on Saturday by defeating Inverness after Rangers had lost to Hearts earlier in the day, and Lawwell has promised the Hoops faithful there will be new faces in January to bolster their chances further. He told the Scottish Mail on Sunday: "Our first focus is to win the league and we will do whatever we can to make that happen." He added: "We have three domestic trophies to win. We want to win the SPL title to get us to four in a row and be back in the Champions League next year. "To that end, in the short term, we will be doing as much as we can to support (manager) Gordon (Strachan) in January. We are looking at both quality and quantity. We have a track record of getting to a transfer window and coming out of it stronger." And Lawwell insisted he would be surprised if midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura quit in the next transfer window despite reports linking him with a return to Japan. He added: "We hope he will stay. If he does go, it will be a surprise. He will leave at some point. If it is the summer, then clearly we must plan for that replacement and we will do that." Meanwhile, Strachan insists he has no intention of walking away from Celtic either. He said: "A lot of people maybe think it was a good time to go after three titles. But they're not me. They said that after year one, they said it for year two, then three, and they'll say it again for year four. But it's people who don't really know me. "It's funny how people can say 'He's not got the stomach for it'. But it's those who don't know me who are saying what I'm going to do. Why would I leave? What would I do?" |

Transfer window time. The time of year we all get excited over these magical signings that match their expectation with only their invisibility. Waiting for... "the Celtic fans have been signed up and they are the best 12th man in the world" statements coming up now as it becomes apparent we are going to sign no defensive cover and another 3 average squad player midfielders. |

Posted a similar couple of articles in the other Liewell thread and how anyone can believe anything that comes out of his mouth is a mystery to me. And to think some fans used to call him the SSM and Santa. |

Reckon there will be signings, but they will come from the SPL. I have no problem with Peter Lawell coming out and saying this, but I think it`s more to do with getting the Huns to react and it`s quite clever. We are seven clear and they seem to be doing a great impression of the pauper, and now the man who "is nailing us to the floorboards", :pmsl: raises the stakes and is trying to force the Hun into reacting. Gone sadly are the Cadette, Thom, Sutton days, when we spent big to compete in Europe. Our lot is the SPL. Sad but looking like fact, and we will only sign players who a) are better than average, or there is no point, and b) sign players who will gladly go from a couple of Thousand to three or four thousand a week. We have to build on players who are Scottish based imo and concrete the next few years in the black. Every Scottish team is facing possible financial ruin due to sponsorship, attendance drop, and we have to trim accordingly. Saying that Jauqhim from Valencia would be nice I reckon we will go along the lines of clearing out first. Bobo, Brown, O`Dea  and replace with the likes of Kenneth and Zaluska from Utd.

I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers It is up to us, to everyone at Celtic Park, to build up our own legends. We don’t want to live with history, to be compared with legends from the past. We must make new legends." Jock Stein | |

Aye, only according to Liewell himself. If he keeps trotting out that old line, it gradually lowers expectations amongst the support and he and his cronies can get on with servicing the debt. |
