Loovens Out As Celtic Injury Crisis Deepens Injured Celtic defender Glenn Loovens will miss the weekend clash with Hearts and the Champions League meeting with Manchester United next midweek... Dutch defender Glenn Loovens has ruled himself out of the Hoops' next two matches at least. The 24-year-old, a summer signing from Cardiff, has started to force his way into the first team of late. However, a thigh problem will keep him sidelined whilst his team-mates negotiate two huge matches. He said to BBC Scotland: "It's annoying to get injured, but that's football and you can't do anything about it." Celtic staff will have to install revolving doors in the treatment room at this rate. Boss Gordon Strachan will now sweat on the fitness of Stephen McManus, whom Loovens replaced during the weekend win over Kilmarnock. Mick is nursing a hamstring problem. Darren O'Dea is most likely to deputise, as he did against Kilmarnock in the midweek Co-op Cup win. Forward Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink remains out, although it has been suggested that Georgios Samaras could at least make the bench for the Group E clash with United. Shunsuke Nakamura, meanwhile, is struggling with both knee and ankle problems. Aside from the crocked contingent, players like Gary Caldwell and Scott McDonald are also short of full fitness and Strachan could be forced to send the walking wounded into the Unted clash, hoping that the Premiership sharks won't smell blood and devour them whole.
