In my humble opinion, wars cause distress, heartbreak and turmoil on a level most of us will never thankfully see.

Two things are in my mind and in my opinion are quite different;

1)The terrible rule of Britain in India, Africa and Northern Ireland, where to a large extent men joined the army from their own free-will to be soldiers. The current situations in Afghanistan and Iraq are the same. No-one asked them, but they are part of a destructive American machine imo. That I have no time for.

2)The conscription of millions of men, who endured obscene conditions on the demand of the British Government. The deaths of so many who would rather not fight and the heartbreak and strife of those left behind.
No-one had the right to refuse admission to the army and in the First World War, millions of young boys died child graves.
Can`t imagine the stench or the signal to go over the top, nor indeed the man charged with shooting deserters!

Only my opinion, but maybe people choose to remember quietly the second part of my sentiments when observing the silence.
My Grandfather served in WW2, and simply would not talk about it. We can only imagine how the one`s "lucky" enough to survive WW1 battlefields felt.

On the 11th day of the 11th hour every year, I remember my grandpa and his mates who were fighting for a cause, not oil.
I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers

1. People should be free to protest any way the like within the law.

2. Getting banned for doing so would be a disgrace and probably challengeable in law.

3. Never bought or wore a poopy when I was in UK coz

a) it went to patch up squaddies hurt proping up an imperial power from Aden to Andietiwn
b) it was then named after Earl Haig the aristocrat whose incompetence multiplied the slaughter of ordinary men in Flanders.
c) if the state is asking people to risk life and limb on its behalf then it should have the decency to look after them and not have them rely on charity.

4. Would never have voluntarily been involved in any of Britannia's follies last century except for world war two. Where would be if millions of Russians, Americans, Scots, Poles etc had not stood up to the march of Fascism?

For this reason I am happy to spend a minute contemplating and imagining their sacrifice and have visited war graves on the continent.

Well said Mate. Would have been the ideal first post and I agree with you entirely.

great posts blair and MB

from reading several celtic sites it's obvious that the 'poppy debate' has raised differing opinions among the support. What I can't accept is the treatment the green brigade has received purely for sticking to their beliefs and principles....some of the language that's been used to describe them - by fellow tims - has been shocking

on many of these boards the GB are being portrayed as silly little boys who enjoy nothing more than to rock the boat.....indeed rumours arising in 'the sun' have been given precedence over any other statement from those opposed to the poppy on a celtic shirt

from the results of various polls on these sites it would appear that although they didn't necessarily agree with the walk out itself, many sympathised with the GB view....perhaps a different sort of protest would have had more visible support?....who knows?

in all probability any kind of protest would have been belittled and quashed. It hasn't surprised me that those message boards that have a 'special relationship' with the celtic echelon are closing all 'poppy threads' to any further debate

as MB stated, any action taken against the GB members for expressing their opinion would be nothing short of a disgrace

your post is excellent and i can't fault it other than to say that earl haig wasn't incompetant, he just valued the lives of young men asnothing but a tool to gain territory, pouting vast swathes of them over the trenches straight into death and destruction.

a cold, soulless man with no regard for life.

he's in hell right now, i am sure of it.

Between you and blair, I think you have covered it perfectly.

Two excellent posts IMO.

a HB poster - admin from the green brigade forum - claims he has been banned from celtic park for 'unacceptable conduct' following the poopy protest

he quite rightfully wants to take this further

I hope he sues the crap out of the club.

Don't care if it means they have to shell out a fortune on it.

Good luck to them all. :thumbs.up:

if celtic ban you you can't do anything about it.

it's quite literally their baw, and they can tell you you're not playing with it if that is what they want.

spoke to one of the lads and they reckon it's coming to each and every one of them in time.

absolutely sickening.

FC celtic is only a year or two away i think.

Celtic PLC are certainly not the team for me. Have had it with these morons running the place.

It is one thing to run things well, but it really all depends on what it is you are running. Turn a profit, sell all your principles down the line. Maggie Thatcher ran the Tory Party well, but she was a right evil piece of work and disenfranchised so many at the expense of a few. The current lot have the same habit. Freedom of speech?

A dark day indeed for this club.

The more I think about it the angrier I'm getting. One of the greatest pulls for me returning home to Ireland was once again getting to see Celtic play on a regular basis. It's becoming less and less of an attraction. I might as well watch the Belfast Giants play fucking ice hockey. At least you can buy a beer at the game.

I think now is the time to speak out. It's all very well me sitting out here telling people back home what to do but we are on the brink of becoming the next Hibs. A purely Scottish/British club that just happens to play in green. Even if you were against the protest you surely can't justify banning anyone who took part? Action needs to be taken by the fans or Celtic FC will have finally lost its soul.

I couldn't give a fuck about going four points clear last night. I honestly don't know if I give a fuck about Celtic anymore. If they want to be just another football team then so be it. Count me fucking out.
