scott brown; any improvement on last term?

scott brown is an enigma. he hasnt quite lived up to the 4 million we shelled out on him. and after a bright start to last season, remember that st mirren game :D ? the romance has died a little. he was the main man at hibs, scoring goals, running at defenders and maybe a little too fierce in the tackle.
i personally thought we pulled a masterstroke signing him, just the sort of combative midfielder we needed after stan left, and also it meant they didnt get him!
his form dipped massively last year, and it came to light that, sadly, his sister had passed away after battling a long illness. which would affect any sane person i know terribly.
what im trying to say is, what has happened to our bhoy? do you think he has improved from last season, or still the same, or do you think he needs a certain type of player beside him allowing him the freedom he had at hibs?
i honestly believe the lad has done well so far this season, a bit erratic, but he seems to have put his head down, and maybe with crosas beside him holding the line in midfield, we may see the best of brown, or well at least a better season from the lad.

so what do you guys reckon?
has he improved?
is he the same?
or does he need a certain type of player beside him allowing him to do what he does best?

I think there's a definite improvement on last season, especially the last few games.........for me crosas is exactly the kind of player he should be partnered with - tho he was fantastic against villareal without him - so maybe it's just confidence as well as competition that's helped in his run of good form

let's hope he keeps it up :thumbs.up:

With Scott Brown, I think this is just growing pains to be honest.

When it comes down to it, the step up between Hibs and Celtic is a huge one, as a Celtic player is required to win every game he takes to the park in. With Hibs he was a bright light, with plenty of potential in a team with very little expectation and with all the things that come with that, from less pressure, to the ability to have the team move around his play.

Come to Celtic and all of a sudden he is just another player in a squad filled with truly gifted players, and with that some of the sheen will come off. At the time of signing him I didn't actually expect him to set the heather on fire as he did (he started last season in excellent fashion), but to be fair to him I think he suffered from a combination of three things, all outside of his control.

First, there was the manager's tinkering with the midfield when Naka was injured, breaking up the midfield partnership of Brown and Donati, which was working very well at the time and pushing Brown to the right wing where the way we play means completely different pressures. Secondly, he is only a young lad, and does not have the experience for making massive changes and being to take it on his chin.

Thirdly, his personal circumstances can't have been easy to deal with.

I hope we will see a better player in years to come, learning his trade as he is. I actually think he would make a decent holding midfielder as opposed to a box-to-box player as his distribution can be pretty poor at times.

Have been a major fan of Brown's since he was at Hibs. Have always liked the guy and the way he plays fitba', and I was over the moon when we signed him.

And whilst he has improved marginally this season, he is still well below par and well below what is expected of a Celtic footballer.

I love his energy, his aggression and his effort, however, his distribution is woefully inadequate. He doesn't contribute enough on the goal front either.

So while he has improved a wee bit this season, his Celtic career to date has been majorly disappointing. If he hasn't improved dramatically by the second half of this season, he will be entering the dangerous territory reserved for flops.

He's done nothing so far this season to replace either Robson, Hartley or Crosas in midfield so far this season. He needs to improve. In saying that he'll get plenty of games regardless in order to justify his huge fee

Scott Brown is not the world-beater we want him to be yet, but I think he is now more focussed and will prove to be a miles better signing than most of us hold promise of.
He is back to being hungry on the park, which I felt had been replaced by boredom and to be frank lack of motivation.

The family situation must have been hard to deal with and he should be left to regain his position as a top Scottish footballer.

We are top of the league, without the midfield really firing yet imo. If Brown, Robson and Crosas start to gel, we will murder teams.
I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers

It is up to us, to everyone at Celtic Park, to build up our own legends. We don’t want to live with history, to be compared with legends from the past. We must make new legends."

Was absolutely top notch for the Huns against Norway yesterday.

Why can't he do that in a green and white strip though? :hmmm:

Is it due to different tactics, formation?

The only other thing that's different is the manager.

Off topic I know, but I have to say I felt very sorry for Caldwell. He was very, very bad.

And Darren Fletcher must have something on Alex Ferguson. How else can you explain the fact that he is a Manchester United player?
