I doubt there can be too many complaints about how the first quarter of the season has gone. We are sitting top of the league, we are playing quality football more consistently, and we're banging in the goals. I'm quite happy with the way things are going and I'm quietlyconfident we'll go on to make it four-in-a-row.

We have, however, had one awful result and three disappointing ones. Barring the opening match of the season all of these have been against opposition who are of a higher standard than your average SPL side, namely Rangers, Aalborg and Villareal. This could be a cause for concern. If we cannot find a way to put teams of higher quality to the sword then not only will be be out of Europe by Christmas, but we still have to play at the Death Star two more times.

The two United games and the next Rainjurs one will decide how this season is going to turn out both at home and in Europe imo. I'm hoping the players can all raise their games and give all of us a Happy New Year

Your post has sort of jogged a horrible thought in my head regarding our ability to win the big games. Not sure why, as if anything, under WGS, we have done this on a regular basis.

I think we will know how the season will look come the beginning of 2009, as then, as you say, we will see how we did against TFOD on Boxing Day (or thereabouts). I have been thinking about the prospect of playing in the UEFA Cup and having a wee run in that, and I would relish the prospect of this, so in a way I would not be too disappointed with getting 3rd in the group (though I really want us to clear this group as I think the psychological boost would serve us very well in the years to come).

On the whole though, we look to have options in midfield and attack now, which is something not a lot of sides can claim to be successful at.

I think the main reason for this is that WGS has finally got a man in Crosas who can move the ball just that wee bit quicker and forward than Hartley and Lennon before him. I thought Donati did this very well at the same time last year, when we were also beating teams comfortably, but a drop of form put paid to his season. With the forward players we have, that wee extra yard of space allows us to murder teams and long may it continue.

The only thing that still bothers me is our record against them. Not good enough. Everything else, has been pretty much improved on compared to last season. Well, Europe has been pretty much a nightmare so far......
