Reports are that Jan could be doubtful for the CL game against the Mancs. If that was the case who would you recommend playing upfront? My first choice would have been JVoH and Samaras and my tactic would to get as many crosses in and corners as possible.

However neither Skippy nor Maloney have any height so if it were down to me I would go for Samaras and Maloney up front, giving McGeady and Naka places on the wing, in the hope that McGeady and Maloney would link up well on the ground and that Naka could fire a few crosses in for Sammy. Thoughts?

I think the way to be successful against Man Utd away is more through quick play on the ground. They will set up with a 4-4-2 and so swamping that central area will be, for me, the most effective method.

Samaras up front on his own, running about as he does, Naka in the middle with McGeady and Maloney on the flanks and then Crosas and Brown in the middle to make up the five and I think we will have it about right. I think that will win us plenty of set pieces as well, something that will be very useful.

If JVoH is fit then I would always look to play him, if, and only if, we are thinking of playing the game in the opposition's half. He isn't really well utilised thirty yards from their goal, but in the box, I think he is one of the best strikers about. As I said last season, I think Samaras is the best of all the strikers to play on his own, something we should always be looking at as an option away from home. Just need to get him to take his chances at the moment. Can't afford to pass up chances like the one he had at Villareal and expect to take points at Old Trafford.

Both Ferdinand and Vidic are good solid defenders at the moment, both seem to prefer playing against big strikers, so having all these wee lads flying about around them should give them something to think about. The right flank will be the most interesting battle on the day IMO as it is their strongest side, with Evra and Ronaldo coming up against possible McGeady and Hinkel. Whoever wins that battle will go a long way to deciding who wins the game IMO.

Actually can't wait, don't worry about this like I do about Villareal away. Pressure off, and the away support will lift the roof off Old Trafford. :ynwa:
