It`s folly to ask the strikers to run about like mad and have no support. Still say I would rather have been beaten going for the win as this team are no Real Madrid or Barca in my eyes. They are technically very good, but when we hit form, we can be as effective.

We need to take the chances when presented wie them. Our strikers need to know that when we get one chance that may be it at that level.

I thought the manager used his subs well.

Having slept on it, a few issues....

I am curious why Aiden starts on the right in a midfield 5 and on the left in a midfield 4. I would think this was more down to Naka feeling better on the right than he does on the left?

Maloney was no help to Naylor defensively last night playing on the left and I think this contributed to Naylor getting caught out a lot more. Once the fitness comes, I think wee Shaun will fill into that role much better, and with Crosas on the park, the ball will be retained better IMO. As for the point raised about bringing Naylor off, I wonder if WGS has realised just how much we missed a chance with not signing a left back in the summer? To me the lack of strength in that area is what cost us the game against TFOD, allowing them to get ahead initially and swing the momentum in their favour, and, last night for sure Villareal targeted that part of the pitch.

Ball retention. Thought our main culprits there were Hartley, Wilson and Naylor. Hartley has a tendency to dally on the ball and is basically, for me, that yard short of pace to play that position at this level. It is all about movement though and Villareal were incredibly good at reading the game on an individual basis, allowing them to anticipate what was coming and forcing errors, something we definitely need to improve on. For the most part though, I thought we did this as well as I have ever done under WGS in Europe.

Future looks bright that way. Hopefully WGS will take a chance on the wee man from Barcelona in future CL games. As for the home game against Villareal, we have a better chance of winning that if Villareal will have already qualified by that point. What matters is us putting some pressure on this group by taking 3 or 4 points against Man Utd.

Pet peeve of the week is fast becoming Craig Burley. I cringed when I heard him call someone "son" during commentary a few weeks ago, and he did it 3-4 times last night as well. Catch a grip Craig, you make it sound so patronising. :banghead:

Some great points there mo chara.

Nakamura last night played in the middle of the 3. Maybe the manager thought that Aiden would have the better pace to support the full back when we lost the ba'.

Maloney became no help to Naylor once the team sat deep. Lack of fitness did seem to be a problem.

The names you mention in failing to keep the ba' come as no surprise to all who watch Celtic. When we fall deeper we lose the ba' mair often and it's always the usual suspects. For me, it was no surprise that in the first half when we were pushed further up the park that we llooked like we had decent fitbawers at CL level.

We lack at CL level. But all we can do is gie it a go.

Oh, Craig Burley is a b*wbag.

Simple fact last night, When your presented with one chance in europe you have to take it no matter wot, Sami fecked it up all becuse he had no left foot, Going in one up at half time would have put us in an excellent position to win the match...

Also they score from a top class free-kick, They new they where never scoring, So they started the crafty diving antics, They won 2 free-kicks in a row on the edge of our box, And a guy with free-kick qulity punished us..

We have Naka, Crap all night, Only good for free-kicks, How many did we win around there box, None.. , I know it's no way to win a game, But i would be happy to dive and present a player with naka's set play ability to pinch us a draw or 3 points away from home..

And a simple fact, 4-5-1 spells defeat IMO!... :banghead: Put 3 up front and go for it, You may as well loose 4-0 as loose 1-0... :fight:

Looking at both teams, I feel we had better strikers on the park than them, but they passed and held the ball better and created a tidal wave effect from the midfield.
Our midfield were static at times apart from Brown who I thought played one of his best games for Celtic. Hope this continues :luck:

WGS one question;- "Did you honestly sign Marc Crosas for the SPL and if you didn`t, why was he left out having started all but one of the last few domestic games?"

Surely the ideal player was a spanish player who could dictate the game and put a foot on the ball. We had the momentum of Brown, and the wide play of McGeadie and Maloney so Crosas would have been ideal in place of Hartley. He tires after 65/ 70 minutes, and Robson comes on to inject more fight... ?
I`m not biased. I don`t care who beats Rangers

Ponit taken mate, but I felt they were on their own at times. Pressure to score would have played a part, although I thought McDonald was really unlucky with his effort.
SPL game, Sammy scores with that chance, but it showed there was a lack of support as no Celtic player was near the rebound.
