I believe we can get a draw with a wee bit of luck. Villareal are without Nihat, so their key players will probably be Cazorla and Senna. They ususally don't score many goals (only 7 goals in 5 games so far), and could only beat Sporting Gijon 1-0, so that's the reason why I think we can get a draw tonight ! |

I wish I shared your optimism Wiggy. :thumbs.up: Will be a tough game for sure. For me when it comes to these games we always seem to be our worst enemies. It isn't just individual mistakes that loses these games (it does us no favours) but, for me it is down to our approach to the pace of the game. Often I get the feeling we need to learn how to be patient with the ball, something I must say I think we have improved upon greatly in the last year or so, but is still lacking, even at SPL level. If we manage to keep the ball well tonight then that is the start for me and if we can do that then we definitely stand a chance of taking something. Them having Nihat out is a massive boost for us, IMO, but Cazorla and Rossi and the likes of them will still guarantee our defence a tough tough night. C'mon the Celtic, something has to give at some point, do us all proud and bring back three points tonight. :celtic:

HT 0-0. :thumbs.up: Good to know we are still in this game. Have to say it has been a solid performance for the most part, and it is good to have a clean sheet so far. Big chance for Samaras, but this is all about composure and their keeper closed the angle very well and very fast. Should have taken it though for sure. We do look much more comfortable with this shape, definitely an improvement from seasons past for use on the road in Europe. :thumbs.up: Hope we nick one early on in the 2nd half and then can play them on the break. We have the players who can do that.

Not too surprised to be honest. As a natural optimist (who knows with football?) I thought we could have nicked something if we kept the ball when enough, but sadly we didn't take our chances and that is what happens at this level if you simply don't win. ![]() All credit to Villareal, this was the pairing I held least hope for when the draw was made, they are, all things considered, an excellent side, and they showed that today. The match winner was, for me, the best player at Euro 2008 and he showed what a class act he was today, picking the right passes every time he got the ball. Soft freekick but then referees give them every game in the CL. I think we will prefer to play Man Utd, an interesting couple of games that will decide who finishes second in the group to Villareal IMO. We did it on aggregate last time, so why not again? PS. Have to say, I thought aside from one scare (McManus in the first half), the centre halves both played well as did Boruc. Also, what happened to our supposed levels of fitness? Both Naka and Maloney looked knackered after an hour. |

felt good about tonight. good selection and a decent performance from thise that played. big problems still there, like naylor, who targeted mercilessly in the second half, but overall i was pleased. the result was nothing i didn't expect, so looking at the positive side, with three genuine footballers attacking and naka in the middle, i hope that isn't the last we see of that type of side. |

If we played like that every time we played away in the CL there's no way our record would be as atrocious as it is. We produced a very entertaining game of football and were unlucky with the result. One of the most pleasing aspects of tonight were the two central defenders. Is it just me or is Gary Caldwell starting to look like a decent footballer? McManus was excellent as well. We could be (after waiting a long long time ) onto a great partnership, but then one swallow doesn't make a summer, so . The only thing we didn't do was score (Samaras :banghead: ) but I'm confident that if we approach every CL game like we did today we will almost certainly qualify for the UEFA cup (which is what I'm secretly hoping for ).

To a man, I thought that was the best (1st half) we have played since the humping of Ajax away from home, but two things stood out for me. Firstly, two players consistently gave the ball to Villareal. To a lesser extent Naka, but Naylor would have been credited with a few assists had they scored more! Aiden suffered the wrath of WGS after the Huns game getting what seems like total blame for the shambles that played that day. So the question from me is "Will Naylor be dropped?" and the answer of course is a sharp "No!" :banghead: Secondly, and this is what really gets my goat is that Villareal were there for the taking. We had to believe more. Looking forward to a great game at CP. Was left wondering why he didn`t bring Naylor off, switch Wilson or indeed play Caddis at left back

Thought we were unlucky last night. Agree Naylor was a liability.Naka and Maloney looked off the pace. Gary Caldwell was our best defender by a country mile. Artur made a few important saves but at that free kick I was shouting "Take one step to the right Boruc, a step to the right..." - but don't think he heard me! |

To me it was all about chances - they took theirs we didn't. Samaras or MacDonald should have scored with theirs. I thought we defended pretty well and there were only a couple of occasions when I felt we were exposed and the majority of their efforts were from outside the box. I also agree with all the comments about fitness - Naka and Maloney in particular looked very tired after about an hour. |

Can`t help thinking 11 men would have beaten Villareal, but I am quietly confident that if we keep playing like that we will beat them at CP, draw with Man Utd at CP, okay lose at Manure, but beat Aalborg to go through! Man Utd will beat them away and it could come down to us v them at CP over an aggregate

Maybe Cheated But Senna And Cazorla Are Just Too Good For Celtic. An OK performance but we were beaten by the better team. Manager deserves credit for his formation. |

We have not scored since Copenhagan in an CL group away game. Bottomline for me is we don't look like scoring. Yes, we had chances last night but was anyone confident of Sammy scoring when he was through? |

It`s folly to ask the strikers to run about like mad and have no support. Still say I would rather have been beaten going for the win as this team are no Real Madrid or Barca in my eyes. They are technically very good, but when we hit form, we can be as effective. |
